As it draws nearer, more and more Waco clips are appearing including Melissa.

Here she discusses her character... Midway through the clip:

I have cable, but not Paramount Network. Any ideas where one would be able to watch this show online?

Only just realised that Waco starts tonight ( I July) in the UK at 9pm on the Alibi channel. Not sure if this channel is available to our mainland neighbours.

I suggest at least reading through this thread before watching. It’s not lighthearted viewing, lots of graphic stuff, and definitely not for children. I’ll be interested to know what someone who’s not from the US thinks of this depiction of this infamous event.

"This gets me angry. They had child services come in based on false accusations might i add and there was zero evidence of it.The lady who checked is on youtube to and even says it was lies."

Rachel... Married at age 14 after having left home so quickly, she was still in her pajamas. Statutory rape. Case closed on that one. Couple that with then having young children in the same "home" as a proven child rapist, under unusual circumstances? Why so angry?

Still doesn't make him a pedophile also Rachel was complicit.

Actually, that's the exact definition of a pedaphile. It's the exact reason Warren Jeffs is currently sitting in jail, as he should be. Complicit? She was 14. I don't think I can say anything more there that hasn't already been proven.

However, the part about the FBI's actions... I will probably have to agree with you, but withhold further judgement till I watch. I have a feeling it'll fit with my current thoughts on the FBI--parts of the upper echelon might be corrupt, but rank and file members are patriots doing a selfless job protecting this country.

As far a s marrying Rachel at 14, the age of consent at the time in Texas was 14, with parents permission, permission was given. So crazy, but legal.

From what I've read, wasn't her father a member of the group and was actually in the compound when it was raided and burned?

They had a Waco panel that Melissa was involved in yesterday. When I can track down some vids, I'll post. Until then, here's some photos....

It looks like they are going to start at the end so to speak....and then do a flashback to maybe a few days before the government showed up? At least that is what it looks like from the opening scene video.

I do recall that incident back in '93 I was about like 12 or 13 yrs old at the time, I remember seeing it on tv, was huge standoff and there was like huge explosion and it went up in flame I had no idea whats going on in that news, I was living at Deaf school in girls dorm at that time. That was crazy times in that year.

I've driven by it more times than I can remember. Never actually saw the compound, just the Mount Carmel sign....never really thought about it too much. I was in my 2nd year of teaching when it happened...I just kept thinking that the FBI and ATF seemed to be very heavy handed in the whole thing. That was something that I just remember thinking when I saw all of the news footage of what was happening.

Looking forward to watching this. I had to double-check that my cable company actually carries this network. Since they don't carry the CW, I can't take anything for granted with them. And, yep! They do, so all is good.

I noticed that Melissa is doing a great deal of promotion this week for it. It made me wonder if, allowing her this time off to spend on promotion was a contributing factor to the delay in Supergirl. Not THE only factor, just one that, when added with other issues, made them decide it might be better to have a break in February.

Either way, I'm thankful that she works for a company that is supportive in letting her continue to spread her acting wings.

Sully, where do you live and who is your cable outlet? Maybe I can help out. I'll try my best

First hour was kind of slow, but most docu-dramas are like that so I wasn't really surprised. However, the acting is excellent....to me it was the FBI dude (not the negotiator) that was the slime ball. ;)

Him, too. But the slime ball comment was more directed to Koresh "accepting" the "burden" to take on the roll of sole reproducer. Lol

I thought that, too, about them including Ruby Ridge. Good background 411. They actually alluded last night that IT was the reason they jumped on Mt. Carmel the way they did. Remember how one of the agents, after realizing the Branch Davidians had amassed a huge arsenal, said they would have things ready to go "next week," but slime ball FBI head said, "No...have it ready by tonight?" I think they rushed the whole thing and ended up being overly heavy handed, I think, as a direct reaction to the failures of Ruby Ridge.

I will say, this first episode did a really good job making you want to ummm... firmly express yourself to the tv, "What is wrong with you people?" lol They weren't forced to stay, didn't suffer from Stockholm Syndrom, and didn't appear to be socially inept. On the contrary, some were once rich, well traveled, educated (one from Harvard, another with a doctorate, etc etc).
I know that in one of the interviews with Melissa and the Waco crew, they mention that these people were everyday citizens, not crazed lunatics like we were led to believe. I think that Koresh's opening sermon gives a good insight into why this type of situation happens. I can't remember what he said exactly but, he pressed upon the point that even with everything those people had it wasn't enough. They still weren't happy. They were missing something in their lives, answers, meaning, companionship, what have you and they found those items by being part of a group of people who were searching for a similar thing. And from what we've seen so far, the actual members of the group seemed like good, well-meaning individuals with a common belief. Once they found what they were looking for, it didn't take much for someone as charismatic as Koresh to step in and manipulate the situation. It's really not that uncommon.

The married men allowed their wives to marry Koresh, and agreed to remain celibate while HE got to procreate with their said wives. There was clearly somethng off in their thought process.

If anything, he committed statutory rape--Rachel leaving in the night in her pajamas, "marrying" him at age 14.
