I went and saw Superman (2025) today. I felt like I had to go to avoid any spoilers, and to see what James Gunn's new direction for the entire DC world would be like. I wrote a whole review and went back and forth on so many things but I think what I am most interested right now is your thoughts. I might post my initial reaction later on but for now, what did you think of the new movie if you saw it? Do you like the new direction? Do you hate it? Feel free to post spoilers in the comments section, and if you haven't seen the movie yet and want to avoid spoilers, don't read the comments for now.

Just saw the movie - wow, it was fantastic and much better then I thought it would be. It had the emotions, feelings that I have grown to love in the Superheroes that were on television. It showed the humanity of Superman, his love for humans and mankind, his earth parents love for him as well as his love for them. Krypto was fantastic and Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen were fantastic. I thought I had seen the meanest Lex Luthor on the TV series of SuperGirl but this Lex Luthor was really one for the books - I was so happy to see him get his just rewards at the end. This movie really maintained the human qualities of the TV series of characters. I wasn't going to watch the new SuperGirl movie, but I have changed my mind and will give it a chance - I am curious to see what they do with the SuperGirl character and if she has the emotions, family characters and similarity to the TV version I have grown to love.
Same goes for Milly Alcock's version of Supergirl.Different from every other live action take.
I agree with Liberty Prime about the new Superman movie. the CinemaScore audience poll gave the movie a grade of A-, and I agree. I really liked the portrayal of Clark/Superman. It's very much like Superman of the Silver Age comics. I was somewhat disappointed in the version of Superman in the other recent DC movies. This is the Superman I grew up with!
I'm not sure how I feel about the new Supergirl we'll be seeing next year, though. Milly Alcock certainly has the right look. But I like the confident, cheerful, optimistic Supergirl of the Silver Age comics I grew up with (and have portrayed in my own fan-fiction stories). So far, it doesn't look like that's what I'm going to be getting next year. But I'm still hopeful - and will certainly be seeing the new movie!
I'm still around and I had to chip in my two cents for the James Gunn interpretation of Superman.
It wasn't a bad movie. It wasn't a terrific movie. It certainly had its moments and then it had some low points. The colour and the humour were definitely brighter than the Zach Snyder version.
It felt at times disjointed and rushed, but as a casual introduction to the Superman character, it was fine. It didn't dwell on origins and the casting was quite good. In truth, the story needed a bit more development and cohesion, but overall, for a film released in 2025, it did OK.
I won't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but will say that our heroine does make an appearance toward the end of the film as part of the set-up for next June's Supergirl, which I am looking forward to seeing. The introduction has kinda/sorta polarised opinions over the 'net, but I'm sure that once SG is released, it will explain in more detail the how's and why's of the character.
All in all, it did its job as a springboard to relaunching the DC universe on the screen. Let's hope that SG can carry the baton forward and give us a good comic interpretation next summer.
I didn’t originally plan on seeing Superman on opening weekend but an opportunity presented itself so I did. Since spoilers are allowed here goes. Krypto stole every scene he was in. I thought it was a good choice not to make another origin story and that Lois knew her boyfriend Clark was Superman. Gunn made a choice to skip showing the world building and instead simply explained that metahumans and heroes had existed for a long time and humanity lived with them. As an audience member I was able to go with that but I can see how some might feel differently. As for Clark/Superman himself I like this interpretation, he seems like a well adjusted and mostly positive person. On a negative side there was a lot going on in this movie and I think they could have skipped a few things while still getting to the endpoint they wanted. I was able to follow everything that was going on but because of the amount of stuff if you don’t pay attention you may miss something. Overall a pretty good start and much better than the DCEU.
You can also say that about some of the elements of the new Supergirl comic books that have come out and have become a big hit and critical success.
Mister Terrific was the best part of the movie.
I thought it tried to do too much--introducing an entire cinematic universe is no small task. It mostly worked though.
I had fun watching it. I'll pick and choose the future projects that interest me, but it feels promising to me.
Will say this, seeing pictures BTS of her in the outfit on social media (mostly X), I say it suits her. Looks good in it, not as good as Melissa Benoist in TV seasons 1-4, but I do dig the color schemes a near even balance of the red, yellow and blue. I did hear that's not the outfit she will wear in next year's Supergirl movie.
