Kara (Zor-El) Danvers

KARA ZOR-EL AKA KARA DANVERS: 24 years old, Kara Zor-El is the daughter of Zor-El and Alura. Sent to Earth from the dying planet of Krypton to protect her cousin Kal-El, Kara's pod was knocked off course by Krypton's explosion, sending her ship into the Phantom Zone, where she slept in stasis for two decades. Her pod later escaped, and she arrived on Earth where she was placed with the Danvers family by an adult Kal-El (Superman), later becoming Kara Danvers. She is the personal assistant of Cat Grant at CatCo Worldwide Media. Starting in the pilot episode, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way. Supergirl is played by Melissa Benoist.

Alex Danvers

ALEX DANVERS: Kara’s gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister who is 26 years old. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sister. One night Kara took Alex flying, where the D.E.O. found out about her and forced Alex's father to work for them instead of taking Kara away. One year later her father died protecting an alien, a martian, from Hank Henshaw. Alex is played by Chyler Leigh.

Cat Grant

CAT GRANT: Cat started off as the assistant of Perry White, working hard enough until she had the chance to write an article for the gossip column. Eventually founded of CatCo, a media conglomerate that centers in National City. Kara (Supergirl’s mild-mannered alter ego) works as a personal assistant to Cat, who is described as “J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour". Cat Grant is played by Calista Flockhart.

J'onn J'onzz

J'ONN J'ONZZ aka HANK HENSHAW: J'onn J'onzz is the sole survivor of Mars. After being discovered on Earth, J’onn was tracked down in a remote location in Peru by the D.E.O. However, Jeremiah Danvers saved J’onn's life by giving his own to stop Hank Henshaw, with J’onn promising to watch over Alex Danvers thereafter. Disguising himself as Hank Henshaw, J’onn took over as the head of the D.E.O. J'onn J'onzz is played by David Harewood.

James Olsen

JAMES OLSEN: A nervous kid starting out, James took the first real photo of Superman, soon gaining public recognition for being friends with him. In his late 20s/early 30s, Seeking to broaden his own horizons, James was asked by Superman to move to National City to keep an eye on his cousin, also accepting a job as CatCo Worldwide Media's art director. James is a smart, worldly and attractive photographer for CatCo. Though an alpha male, his salt-of-the-earth nature elicits a huge ol’ crush from Kara. James, played by Mehcad Brooks.

Winn Schott Jr.

WINSLOW ‘WINN’ SCHOTT JR.: a tech genius as well as a superstar IT whiz that works alongside Kara at CatCo. He carries a torch for Kara, which makes the day to day grind a little more difficult for him. Winn assisted Kara in creating a costume, going through several potential options before coming to the final costume. Assisting her in her heroics, Winn acts as the tech center of Supergirl's crime fighting career. He has even gone as far as setting up a secret office within the CatCo. building where James, Winn and Kara can work on their heroics! Winn is played by Jeremy Jordan.

MON-EL: One of, or maybe even the last survivor of Daxam, Mon-El was rocketed to Earth in a Kryptonian escape pod when the planet Daxam suffered catastrophic damage caused by the destruction of sister planet Krypton. Mon-El, a Daxamite, has very similar powers to that of Kryptonians except they are a little less pronounced. Unlike Kryptonians, Daxamites are deadly allergic to blood-lead poisoning. Mon-El's origin on Daxam is shrouded in mystery which is resolved in season 2. He has a more care-free attitude than Kara does and likes to drink and party a bit more than his Kryptonian counter-perts. He does have a sense of honor and self betterment as well. Mon-El often looks to Kara to develop his sense of right and wrong.

Maggie Sawyer

MAGGIE SAWYER: After the population boom of aliens appearing in National City, the NCPD had to come up with a way of managing and investigating alien crime. The answer was the newly formed Science Police division. Detective Maggie Sawyer joined up and began investigating alien related crimes across National City. In her adventures, Maggie came across several incidents that involved Supergirl and her sister Alex Danvers. The three formed a good working relationship that both Alex and Maggie use that relationship to benefit both the Science Police and the D.E.O. Maggie is also a lesbian and has since helped Alex Danvers discover that part of herself as well.
