I thought that it might be nice to have one place to discuss the character of Reign as we progress through this season. While I'm a bit sad about the character turning evil, I am very eager to see the extent that the writers will go with the villain. She has the possibility of being quite the formidable foe for Supergirl.

Perhaps we can start with some facts about her that we know at the moment and add to the list as we find out more details.

I'll start a list and I can add to it later. Even though the character exists in the comics, I thought that it might be better to keep those facts off the list until they present themselves as we're not sure what aspects the writers will use from her comic book counterpart. But, feel free to discuss any aspect of the character.

The ending of Episode 10 had me pondering a question, what is Reign's status as main villain for the rest of Season 3?. With other Worldkillers coming does Reign just become part of the group and there's actually a Bigger Bad out there that we haven't seen as yet?. With development of the Samantha to Reign story-line this season I would assume her to be the season long villain but now I'm not so sure.

How do others see this playing out in regards to Reign's future role?.

I think Reign will still be the leader; and this reveal just gives Team Good some breathing space while Reign goes in search of her fellows; it'd probably also would lead to a spectacular finale and may be getting another Superman cameo.

I wonder if Fort Rozz has another of the world killers and thats why Reign goes there. I could see her being the team leader, awakening other people. Maybe even having the bright idea to try to awaken Ruby but thats her downfall.

You just got me thinking, Kiwi....

We've all been questioning whether the writers were going to give us the scary toothy Reign at any point. Now with them revealing that they're bringing in other World Killers, I would suspect that maybe through THEM we'll get flashes of the "typical" comic book World Killer version?

Interested in seeing how Reign will react to Ruby. Afterall, isn't Reign meant to only destroy evil? Being Ruby isn't evil, and part of Sam/herself...should prove to be an interesting "response." Will motherhood "short circuit" Reign a tad? Will Reign see her as an "abhorrance," the reason for her delay?

Yeah Ive said this before but I'm interested in seeing this reaction too.... As long as Ruby is around Reign can't take over completely I dont think. I hope we see Reign interacting with Ruby in the next episode just to get a glimpse of what their dynamics are like. At the least Ruby being smart enough to realize Reign isn't her mom, etc.

I read the original comic story and yes, Supergirl is initially was hurt. The comic and TV characters are different and so, how Sam turns out is a mystery. IMHO, there is a clue when Sam tells Ruby that she (Ruby) is her heartbeat. My thought is that Ruby will be the impetus to Reign’s end. I do not know whether she will die or what, but it will be tragic nonetheless.

I definitely agree that the Legion will take on Reign. I am not so sure that Reign’s concept of good and evil is the same as ours. She would not say to Supergirl “ I am going to kill you.” She has a different structure of what needs eradication. I am looking forward to what is a World Killer’s mission.

I'm a firm believer that Sam's story will be a tragic one. The exec producers have not hidden that. It's been touted from the beginning. Somehow, Reign and Sam will be written out. Whether they are killed, destroyed, exiled to the Phantom Zone...whether Sam sacrifices her self to take Reign with her.
I haven't read or watched any of the preseason material, did the EPs state then that Reign would have a tragic end?

This Reign is very different from the comics. She's essentially Kara's version of Doomsday. In the comics she didn't have a civilian alter ego. She was just one being, Reign. And the purpose behind her creation, as well as exactly who created her, aside from her origin being Kryptonian, is unknown. She also doesn't have the basic Kryptonian power set like she does in the show.
What was her power set in the comics? I have to admit, I'm not too thrilled with having another Superman plot used for Supergirl. If Reign is from the Supergirl comic then I really don't understand why they would not pull from it rather than Superman.

We know her origin and purpose, at least partially, in the show. She was created by a sect of Kryptonians who worshiped their old gods. As for purpose, she believes herself to be some sort of dark, divine justice.

As of yet, Reign has yet to hurt somebody completely "innocent", aside from Kara, who straight up challenged her. But I can see her vision of justice being warped or manipulated to do the bidding of other entities, whether it be her creators, or even Edge. I'm just curious what her, or her creators', long term goal is. It's got to be more than "Reign punishes evil doers".
I wonder if, with Reign it is or at least will become more about her wanting to rule rather than just be an instrument of justice. Power corrupts and perhaps she was created to delve out justice but, after defeating Supergirl and now being the most powerful in the city, she decides to re-direct her mission into being one of self-promotion - possibly even eventually believing herself to be one of the gods. In that theme, I would see Edge as one who would see an opportunity to gain more power via Reign and jump on board the Reign ship.

I'd like something to happen to Reign similar to what happened to Killer Frost last season. Caitlyn can pretty much change KF at will and is aware of what she is...maybe that can happen for Sam too.
My only reason for wanting to keep Reign on the show is because she is such a good, threatening villain. I wouldn't want her to change into just another superhero.
I agree....:o But watch out, we may be struck down by the Supercorp god....LOL

The more I think about it, the more conflicted I have become on Sam/Reign. I like Sam as a character and I think that she could be an asset to Kara as a friend, really much better than Lena (did I say that out loud ;) ).

BUT, gosh I really would like for her to stay Reign, long-term, and be a threat past this season. They have done such a good job showing her to be a formidable opponent, that I hate to see her being redeemed, even at the end of the season.

Odette is a wonderful actress and it would be a shame to lose her after this season.

('Killer' Frost killed no one, and Reign has killed 12 people so far)

As much as I like Sam, not keeping Reign as a villain that can be used in other seasons pretty much disrespects the villain of Reign in the comics.

The reign in the comics was never defeated outright I dont think...(I went back and read her run in the comics)

Basically during that run Reign:

1. Tried to get Kara to join her
2. Had an 'army' of 3-4 other world killers with her randomly after her introduction
3. Claimed only a world killer could defeat a world killer (and this was proven true as Kara managed to trick 2 of the world killers into hurting each other)
4. Claimed not to know her origins or why she wanted to destroy things only that she felt the urge to do so (which is already different from the show where it was a conspiracy)

I dont know if we will get 2 or 3. So far the only other possible world killer we are being given is Ruby ,

I didn't really count Captain Cold and Heat Wave. When they were actually villains, on The Flash, they didn't get that much backstory, with the exception of when Cold was blackmailed into helping his father. GREAT episode.

They didn't really go in depth with them, to the extent of Reign, until they were on Legends of Tomorrow, where they served as heroes(or possibly anti heroes?).

Either way, you take the main villains of the seasons from each show, and Reign has the most depth, and is the most sympathetic. Arrow had Merlin, Deathstroke, Ra's, Dhark, and Prometheus. Not one of them sympathetic except for maybe pre-Mirakuru Deathstroke.

The Flash had Reverse Flash, Zoom, Savitar, and now The Thinker. The first three had no sympathy to them. There was a chance for Savitar to, but he just seemed plain psychotic. They are doing well with The Thinker, giving him an episode just dedicated to his background. But at this time, it's unknown why he's targeting Barry, when the new body he needed was that of Brainstorm. So I can't quite get a handle on his motivations, yet.

The only original villain that Legends had was Vandal Savage. Great comic villain...super poorly done, on screen, though. The other villains were recycled from Flash and Arrow (Reverse Flash, Damien Dhark, Malcom Merlin, Grodd). They do seem to have an villain behind the scenes, this year, pulling the strings, so there is some hope, there.

So, yes, at this point, I'm still saying is the most fleshed out and sympathetic villain of the CW DC multiverse, all thanks to sharing a body with Sam, who's been fleshed out since the beginning of the season.

As others have said, I could see that happening too, and that could be a reason for Reign to be 'out of the picture' even for a while if Sam manages to get herself in containment before her next relapse.

Also someone said there hasn't been sympathetic villains on the arrow verse before? Or did they mean lead villains?

I think Mick Rory and Leonard Snart were pretty sympathetic and both managed to get redeemed. Hell, Mick has had the most development of any former villain in the arrow verse as a result of being a lead on legends for three seasons. This season alone we've had episodes on Legends like the one where Mick met his dad where it was just a tour de force of perfect acting and emotion

I don't know anything about Mick or Leonard, are they comparable to their comic book personas?

I think there will be a point where Sam figures out she’s the one who almost killed Supergirl and is causing all the destruction. I think it will happen before anyone else figures it out. For a time she’ll try to handle it on her own but eventually she’ll send Ruby away and go to her friends Kara and Lena for help. Remember in S3E5 Kara told Sam as a reporter she has a contact in government agency. Kara will convince Sam to let the DEO help her and Sam will go willingly. Sam will spend a few episodes in containment while the team including Lena tries to help her. Then Reign will break out of the DEO and Sam will be gone. The team will make one last effort by using Ruby but it won’t work. In the end everyone is heartbroken but realizes Reign must be stopped.

I'm not sure how Reign's identity will be revealed. But I think it will be easy for Kara, and whoever else finds out, to see that Reign and Sam are as different as night and day.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they found out because Ruby steps in the way of Reign trying to kill Ruby's hero, Supergirl. This may cause Sam to rise to the surface, even if it's just temporarily.

...I'm more interested to see how the individual characters react, and decide to proceed, once Reign's identity is revealed....I think we can clearly expect Lena to be sympathetic to her friend. Kara...I'm honestly not sure. She became tight with Sam, really quick, but she's also been on the receiving end of Reign's brutality...and that can give her a different perspective than the sympathetic one she may normally have. I think one or more DEO team members will want to just take Sam down. Probably J'onn, due to his experience and trauma from White Martians. Alex is another one I'm torn on. I feel like, normally, she'd want to go for the kill. But knowing Sam, and especially with the bond she's formed with Ruby...I just don't know.
I am curious to see if Sam actually figures out who she is and what she is doing before everyone else does. It may be a situation where she makes the connection and realizes that she is unable to control it. If she does, then perhaps she would try and place Ruby somewhere safe from her, like with Alex (even though I'm not really too keen on that happening). Then, we see Sam falling deeper into becoming Reign - to the point where Sam's persona is no longer active. Having Ruby watch that fall would definitely pull at the heart-strings if they're wanting to go that route.

As far as how the DEO reacts, my guess is that J'onn, Mon-el, Imra and Brainiac will all be in favor of stopping Reign, without regards to who she is as Sam. I also think that Lena, Winn and James will want to try and save her. It's Alex and Kara who I'm not quite certain on. If they stay true to who the characters have been in the past, then Alex would be with J'onn et al. I can still recall her telling Kara in Season 1, that she may have to kill Astra and that soldiers kill, sometimes, if they have to. Of course, you add to that what she told Kara about being cold and the fact that Reign tried to kill her sister, then my bet would be that she would want Kara to be safe at whatever cost. Of course, Kara's natural instinct has been to be merciful and not kill. That said, the wrench in the whole thing is Kara's questioning of humanity, her brush with mortality due to Reign and the influence of Ruby on both Alex and Kara.
