Supergirl.tv was able to exclusively report that both Olivia Nikkanen and Izabela Vidovic would reprise their roles as young Alex and young Kara respectively. Today Entertainment Weekly is reporting that another fan favorite character has been cast as a younger version of themselves, and that is Cat Grant! The part goes to new actor Eliza Helm! Interestingly, this comes to us at a point in Cat's life where she isn't the media mogul we know her to be but goes by CJ Grant these days. She is slated to appear in two flashback episodes both episode 5 "Prom Night" and episode 6 "Prom Again". The character is described as:

Eager to step out of Lois Lane's shadow and out from under her boss, Perry White's thumb, Cat chases a story to Kara's hometown of Midvale," reads the official character description. "This lead won't go as planned, but it will put her on the trajectory toward the Media Powerhouse we know and love as Cat Grant.

My thought/hope is some newsworthy event occurs around Prom at Midvale High that involves the sisters. Cat Grant covers the event and interacts with the sisters. Perhaps Kara and Cat have a bonding moment that becomes the reason Kara wants to work for Cat later.

Information seems to be flowing now. It’s weird to use the word cast when she likely got the part months ago and is finished filming because I’m assuming the two flashback episodes were purposely filmed before Melissa returned to the set. I recall talk of Izabela and Olivia being in Vancouver Decemberish about the same time Chyler talked about directing.

Any Cat Grant is a plus from me. I wonder if they’ll plant the seed of Kara wanting to would with Cat. Still hoping for a Kara/Cat Zoom call with Calista but this should be fun.

Also, I found this tidbit in the EW article about Ms. Helm...

Needless to say she has comedy chops especially from the group that gave the world "SCTV."

And Northwestern University has had some major names in acting come from there...namely Charlotte Rae, Patricia O'Neal, Charlton Heston and Paul Lynde.

You know,even though it's not Calista Flockhart,I'm actually very happy about this.Getting Calista Flockhart back for any appearence for the final season was always going to problematic due to the pandemic IMO even if she is willing.But the fact that we will get Cat Grant in the final season feels really nice.It's a great nod to the first season by getting a little bit of the start of Cat's evolution in the woman she became in season 1 as Kara's mentor.

This is also the one way I think most fans will be okay with a recast of the role.

Plus it feels very much like how Perry White was introduced in season 3 of Smallville.
