Hi,

I just found this article that might shed some light as to if or when the U.S. - Canada land border may re-open. If indications from health officials and governments and the article below is to be deemed accurate, it might take a year or so before there is any sort of free-flow.

Note: This may or may not affect filming in B.C. for Arrowverse and other U.S.-backed productions since it does not strictly prohibit air travel but the current quarantine provisions may / likely will still apply for air and sea as it currently does for land crossings.

This is not Vancover related but it is film production related. While filming The Batman in the U.K. the star Robert Pattinson has tested positive for Coronavirus. Production has been stopped. I couldn’t find any information on his condition, wishing him a speedy recovery. This makes me wonder how possible it is to keep the cast and crew safe during film production.

Looks like there might be an early wrinkle in getting the cast and crews for the various shows back to B.C. as the Covid numbers are beginning to spike back up in a noticeable way.

By no means are the numbers as drastic as the U.S., but they are definitely to be monitored closely to ensure all safety precautions can and are being followed as crews, actors and production staff contemplate returning to work possibly in September.

Thanks for keeping us informed, Romulus. It's good to see that the province is taking quick and aggressive action.

'Real Heroes Wear Masks' in New Posters for Superman & Lois, The Flash and More Returning CW Shows

By Andy Swift / August 3 2020

https://pmctvline2.files.wordpress.com/2020/08/arrowverse-posters.jpg

The Arrowverse’s finest are suiting up like never before.

The CW has released a series of posters for its 2021 slate of superhero series — Black Lightning (Season 4), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 6), The Flash (Season 7), Stargirl (Season 2), Supergirl (Season 6) and Superman & Lois (Season 1) — all of which feature the shows’ iconic stars wearing masks. Heck, they even let Beebo in on the action.

The posters, of course, aim to stress the importance of wearing masks while out in public to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Supergirl and The Flash were forced to wrap their latest seasons early when the pandemic led to an industry-wide shutdown in March 2020, while Superman & Lois received a straight-to-series order without being able to film a traditional pilot. Black Lightning, Stargirl and Legends of Tomorrow were unaffected.

Stargirl, whose first season currently airs on both The CW and streaming service DC Universe, was recently renewed for a CW-only second season. Stargirl‘s freshman run concludes on Monday, Aug. 10. (Click here to check out first-look photos from the big finale.)

Batwoman is conspicuously absent from this batch of posters, likely because Javicia Leslie — who will don the iconic cowl in Season 2, following Ruby Rose’s exit — hasn’t been able to do a full photo shoot in costume yet.

Browse our gallery of the posters — you can click here for direct access — then drop a comment with your thoughts below. Which superhero show are you looking forward to the most?

Another article relating to the U.S. - Canada border closure.

Gotta admit though, I kinda scratched my head at the use of the term "Neutral Zone" at the Peace Arch border between Washington State and British Columbia.

So, in that spirit: CBP / CBSA officials say in unison: "OK, ladies and gents; The Klingons stay on that side of the border, the Romulans go to the right for holding and debriefing, and the Federation stays exactly where it is." ;)

Wow, 18? I thought we'd only get 10-13 between Covid-19 and Melissa's maternity leave.

I'm sure things remain in flux.If this is accurate, they may aim for 18 but depending on what's going on and what happens related the virus, this can change.

The DCTVshows has put up a interesting video. In the first part,he mentions that he's hearing Supergirl is looking to do 18 episodes for season 6.He also talks about the episode # plans for Superman & Lois ,filming delays for Arrowverse shows and issues with American actors getting into Canada. The second half of the video is just fan questions and speculations.

Here is another stark difference between our two countries at Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Fall, ON regarding distancing and rules.

Note: The U.S. Maid of the Mist tour boat from the NY side to the falls has crowded passengers / tourists (50% of total capacity) aboard its ferry. The Hornblower, from the Ontario side, with a similar capacity, has six.

Quoting Romulus: "Ultimately, it isn't the pandemic that is the problem - it is the lack of preparedness and attitudes from certain segments of U.S. society regarding public safety and the overall well-being of Americans in general that is the millstone weighing things down."

Well said! What a tragic embarrassment.

In fairness no one is ever prepared for a world wide pandemic. Especially one that is contagious as covid. Thank God it's not a death sentence and most people survive except for the elderly and people with compromised immune systems. We dropped the ball and I'm hopeful that we will be back on track soon. In the meantime we are making positive headway toward a vaccine which could be available by Thanksgiving. Keep the faith.

****

The polling numbers appear to be accurate and despite the desire to normalise life again on both sides of the border, until there is a concerted effort by the U.S. administration (every level of government - federal, state, municipal and local) to tackle the Covid-19 problem in their own country, the soundest policy for ANY country is to keep travel to and from the U.S. (unless deemed essential) off the table and out of the question. The same would apply to Brazil, India, Russia and other locations that are unwilling / unable (due to internal politics) to take on the problem seriously and in a concerted manner. There is no finger-pointing or acrimony intended here, just a simple observation of how things are unfolding worldwide.

As much as we like our American neighbours, the borders (air, sea and land) need to stay shut until there is a concerted effort by the U.S. as a whole to reduce the numbers and co-operate with international agencies on creating a common, cost-effective vaccine / treatment strategy against such viruses. As it stands, this does not appear to be in the cards for the foreseeable future. The current U.S administration (at various levels) wants to go it alone and blame others for the crisis / problem when, in fact, ALL available resources everywhere (regardless of country) need to be pooled together for global well-being.

Don't misunderstand me; most people worldwide (outside of the U.S.) know that the CDC and various health agencies in the U.S. wish to co-operate internationally but cannot do so as they once did due to national politics. If this changes with the upcoming election in November (if there is a new administration), then a softening of international positions / policies might occur sooner rather than much later. If the current administration (at the federal and state levels in certain jurisdictions) is returned to office, expect the border issue and the pandemic response, or lack thereof, to continue with a massive loss of life and irreparable damage to U.S. society as a whole.

Ultimately, it isn't the pandemic that is the problem - it is the lack of preparedness and attitudes from certain segments of U.S. society regarding public safety and the overall well-being of Americans in general that is the millstone weighing things down.

Note: Edited to add link below regarding Canadian's general view regarding lockdowns, masks and public safety measures. This should give our U.S. and international members an idea as to where our collective head space is at in Canada. Again, it's based on polls and they are subject to interpretation and change (as the situation evolves). Not all Canadians support everything stated in the article, but there is more-or-less a general consensus for the need for safety and security with appropriate measures in place.

The US/Canada border will remain closed to nonessential travel until at least August 21st. Deadline
Essential travel remains permitted and while film and TV work is considered nonessential, American cast and crew can secure temporary work visas to cross the border, though in some instances will be subject to a quarantine period upon arrival.
Whenever the shows do start the protocols are going to be tough on many of the cast and crew who remain LA based and have been use to flying home on weekends.

According to this article
More than eight in 10 Canadians surveyed in a new Ipsos poll said they want to keep the U.S.-Canada border closed till at least the end of 2020.
I’d be interested in what our board members in Canada are hearing about that. Right now the US is doing a poor job of even slowing the spread of COVID-19. I’m curious what people from other countries not just Canada think of the US response to this global pandemic.

Masks... my understanding is tv and movie will require every including actors to wear a mask. Actors may temove masks only when filming a scene. Ince the cameras stop, masks go back on... at least that is what I read. However, that may be just California. Vancover and GA where Arrowverse shows film may vary.

Sounds like a good policy to me.

I wonder if some shows might keep masks on while filming certain scenes for the sake of realism.

I'm curious to see how masks will fit in. It it possible many of us will be wearing masks in close social settings for some time.

Will this be reflected in the "tv universes"? Not just for Supergirl or Arrowverse. Will sitcoms adopt this? Shows recorded live? Will we see a resurgence of canned laughter?

Lots of questions and logistical challenges I'm glad I don't have to solve.
