Also, anybody else notice, Melissa's nnnoottttt aaactually playing the piano :p

Definitely looks like she was just pretending to play but even then she looked pretty good at it. Nice song though, such a lovely voice and that laugh at the end, you gotta love it.

Argo will have to see if Melissa plays the piano for real given he's so close to the stage.

I'm wondering two things: 1.) Since it was a performance for the press, and not wanting to mess up she simply didn't play or 2) since she's just doing a truncated performance run, she didn't actually learn to play the songs. However, if it was reason 1, she would have most likely still looked to play the song correctly, but just used a backtrack instead. I suspect it's reason #2, and there's actually no strings in the piano, or that they have a padding on the strings.

Here is Mel performing one of the songs from the musical....

https://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay/BWW-TV-Beautiful-Benoist-Watch-Broadways-New-Carole-King-in-Action-20180606

And not just any song, but So Far Away, one of the many hits to come from Carole King's landmark 1971 album "Tapestry." The album won 4 Grammy Awards in 1972...

Album of the Year

"It's Too Late" won for Record of the Year

"You've Got a Friend" was Song of the Year

Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female.

In 1995, Rod Stewart did a cover version of So Far Away on a tribute album "Tapestry Revisited: A Tribute to Carole King."

PIX11 interview

PIX11 Video

RATS! Got beaten to it. I did catch a little bit of it. The part that made me laugh was the discovery of the word "Supergirling" LOL!!!!! I've heard of fangirling and fanboying...but never that.

AND THAT LAUGH! But this was your typical light fare that is entertainment news, even on WPIX channel 11, whose building as we all know was used as the Daily Planet in the Superman movies...at least when the NY Daily News was at that building at 220 E. 42nd in NYC which also calls itself PIX Plaza.

As one would expect...Melissa Benoist will be interviewed on WPIX's PIX 11 Morning News, which airs from 4:30 to 9:00AM EST. She will be interviewed by the station's entertainment reporter Ojinika Obiekwe. Expect a talk about Beautiful and Supergirl to come up perhaps. And when the interview becomes available on social media, I hope to let you know.

Speaking of WPIX, this month is VERY special...it was on the 15th of this month 70 years ago, when WPIX, whose call letters are a variation on the word Picture (as in the motto of the NY Daily News, New York's PICTURE Newspaper), signed on the air.

And on the 15th and 16th some special programming will air. In promoting a one hour lookat WPIX's history (which is NEVER enough for me), PIX11 said...

PIX11 Celebrating 70 Years will look back at PIX11 from 1948 through today and relive some of the station’s most memorable broadcast moments. From the NY Giants to the Yankees to the Mets…from Cap’n Jack McCarthy to Officer Joe Bolton to Bozo the Clown…from Dawson to Buffy to Supergirl… From the PIX PIX PIX game* to the “Yule Log,” “PIX11 Celebrating 70 Years” will track the station’s growth from a small independent station to the powerhouse it is today.

Bold--Yup, she gets mentioned in the PIX pantheon of names that have been on WPIX since 1948. Matter of fact, WPIX’s first live broadcast began at 7:30pm on June 15, 1948 and ran 5 hours, 41 minutes. The star-studded gala inaugural featured Gloria Swanson, Ed Sullivan and Arthur Godfrey.

*That game was called TVPIXX, which in the early 80's had Intellvision or Atari like graphics for the games. To get the game going, kids had to shout into their phone "PIX!" Their score determined their prize. To qualify, kids had to identify the PIXX Pal of the day, one of the many characters who were on channel 11's broadcast lineup when asked to call in. The characters ranged at that time from Tom and Jerry to The Odd Couple. For the record, I did not participate in the game, but have been a channel 11 viewer for many years including the pre-CW and WB days.

To me, still one of the best videos that shows just how strong a voice she actually has....and stood toe to toe with Miss "I'm Going To Broadway".....

And it's a Billy Joel song no less...and one that doesn't get as much airplay as "Piano Man" or "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me." Well, at least here in the NYC area it did.

Or been wondering, Kiwi, if it's actually been a crash course in learning the piano.

I believe she plays, not sure how experienced, but I know her character played the piano on Glee.

I'm SURE Kelly will ask next Monday.....I can't see how that question WON'T come up.

From what I can see, Melissa only did the intro at Stars in the Alley, and didn't actually sing.

I saw a picture on Twitter that someone took of the performers, and it appeared Melissa was slated to perform a song, but they must have had to make a last minute switch.
