BUT there is a catch! It will NOT AIR on the Super Bowl itself, which is one of the most viewed, and now streamed TV events on Earth. In the US it will air on NBC and Peacock. It will be a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX from 2015 when my team the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks.

Now the people at Warners will air an ad for the film...during the Puppy Bowl. That is the long-running event thought of as counterprogramming to the Super Bowl, which will be aired on Animal Planet, which happens to be owned by Warner Brothers Discovery. Synergy it's called in the corporate world of media.

The Puppy Bowl features teams of puppies on a makeshift football field competing in a game where the scores can be run up and there can be penalties for excessive barking. All of them are up for adoption.

Superman Homepage, which wrote their article from one by Variety, said of this...

The Puppy Bowl seems like an especially fitting venue given that Krypto the Superdog—who stole hearts in “Superman”—will return in “Supergirl.” Why spend big on football when you’ve got superpowered pups and corporate sibling networks? Smart play, DC.

Some on social media are thinking of it as a sign Supergirl will flop at the Box Office. This as there was a recent report of controversy surrounding the box office numbers on 2025's Superman by Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, which is looking to buy WBD.

Now I was thinking back a little bit about THIS when it came to Supergirl and puppies

UPDATE: And now, just about 10 years later, from the official Supergirl X page and promoting the Puppy Bowl, it's Lilly's turn to embrace the cute:

I will admit it's not as overtly joyful as Melissa Benoist giving in to her weakness, but still...
