Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We hope you all had a terrific holiday weekend! Tonight marks the final episode from the first part of season 5. Next week will be Crisis on Infinite Earths! Who's excited! Of course, after the last episode, there was a lot to clear up! Lena literally stole Myriad and is planning on using it to eliminate the errors of humanity. At least what she views as errors. If that wasn't enough, Rama Khan took a beating and he isn't going to be very happy this episode! Here's what stood out to us:
- Lena and Myriad: The episode picks up right up where the last one left off. Lena escapes to a bunker that Lex used. She is going to integrate her new system with Myriad and project Q-Waves to remove human aggression. Supergirl is freed when Alex and Brainy arrive at the fortress. She heads to where Lena is to stop her but Kryptonite canons are armed but not used. She heads to the DEO to figure out a way to reach Lena still!
- Rama Khan: Rama Khan's powers are enhanced when the planets are inline, Leviathan is considering removing Rama Khan from power and putting a different alien in charge. Rama Khan fears the new leader won't be as gentle or considerate to the planet as he is. He decides to use the medallion of Acrata to further enhance his power and stop humans from hurting Earth by killing off humans.
- Supergirl Tries to Save Lena: Supergirl believe in her core that she can still reach Lena. The fact that Lena isn't hurting people, even Ma'alefa'ak who was her prisoner, means she could still be redeemed. Using a hologram projector in the DEO, Supergirl beams her image into the secure bunker. She begs Lena to stop but to no avail, Lena is in lockstep with her plan and won't be persuaded by a liar like Kara.
- Director Danvers: Alex sees how unstable Lena is behaving. Kara is always going to do what she thinks is right and believe in hope. However, Alex knows she needs to protect the planet. She uses Supergirl's conversation with Lena to infect her bunker with a virus. Lena believes that Supergirl once again betrayed her. In the meantime, Supergirl runs to J'onn to see if he can talk to Alex and get the satellite off of targeting the bunker. J'onn doesn't talk to Alex but he and Ma'alefa'ak do come up with a possible plan to stop Lena by using Ma'alefa'ak's power to contradict Lena's technology.
- Leviathan Strikes: Rama Khan has decided to make a super-volcano explode causing an extinction level event. Acrata warps to the DEO to warn them for a split second only to be stopped by Rama Khan. His powers are growing via his staff and trapping Acrata with it. The super-volcano under National City is growing to a level 10,000 times stronger than Pompeii. Alex takes charge and sets the team to divide and conquer. J'onn and Supergirl will take on Rama Khan and Alex, Brainy and maybe Ma'alefa'ak will stop Lena.
- Battle on Two Fronts: Supergirl and J'onn are fighting Rama Khan. J'onn goes to free Acrata and stop Rama Khan from using his enhanced powers. Lena asks Hope to manually reset the satellites. Hope is successful and Lena launches Myriad. Alex is given a choice to kill Lena to stop her or to trust in her enemy and let Ma'alefa'ak try and stop Myriad. With seconds to spare, Lena chooses to trust Ma'alefa'ak. Lena realizes that she lost when Ma'alefa'ak neutralizes her tech. She turns to Hope to say that this is a life lesson, "sometimes the good guys lose". Supergirl, seeing that Alex chose to trust in Ma'alefa'ak is charged up and throws Rama Kahn into the tar pit. J'onn and Acrata arrive just in time to see Rama Khan reappear from the pit. Acrata attacks him and takes him into the dark void.
In the last moments of the episode, we see that Rama Khan is removed from power in Leviathan. Gamemnae has taken command of Leviathan. The FBI storms the bunker and Lena gives Hope a gun. She pretends to be Eve and takes responsibility for it all. Lena avoids charges. Alex and Supergirl take a moment on the balcony to make sure they are both are ok. They say if Ma'alefa'ak's soul can be saved, then so can Lena's. J'onn takes Ma'alefa'ak on a walk and asks him to go to Mars and to work with M'Gann to help end the war on Mars. J'onn gifts Ma'alefa'ak his ship to go home. The brothers seem to be in a great place for the first time in their lives. Just then, The Monitor arrives. Healing Ma'alefa'ak was a test for J'onn. The Monitor says J'onn is now ready for Crisis. We then go to the Monitor's void where Lex Luthor is waiting. The Monitor says the universe will need a mind like his and he'll finally be the hero he's always wanted to be. Lex's reply, "He's always been the hero".

Agreed, especially with Sunday Night Football. Sports and other live events tend to have a kind of "urgency" to be watched as they air versus a drama that one can stream after the fact.

Glad you liked the episode. But, I wouldn't give much weight to IMDb's rating. The site is good for directory info for the showbiz types but not reliable as a barometer for many other things.
As LibertyPrime stated "expectations are the parents of disappointment." Since expectations have more-or-less gone by the wayside this season, this board is no exception. Some have high hopes and others have lesser expectations.
Facebook and Twitter (to name but two) commentary is also not a reliable barometer either. In all fairness, we really have to wait for the L+7 and delayed viewing numbers to get a better picture. I'd expect a viewership bump as it is the episode before COIE and a bump during the crossover, but I would really like to see the longer-term trends as the season wears on.
Agreed that expectations are the parents of disappointment.
I agree. As I said in my earlier comments, it was one of the weaker episodes of the season (especially in comparison to the preceding two), but it held my interest and had a number of positives. But quite a few really unloaded on this episode, and I guess they were expecting something totally different. I try not to have any particular expectations about an episode and just judge it by what it is, not what I was hoping or thought it would be. I find the viewing much more enjoyable that way.
Same there is no baiting. They hammer us over the head thousand times they are just friends by them keep saying “friend, friendship” in every episode practically. No clue why some seem to ignore what they openly are telling us and the characters.
I liked the ep.
I dont see that at all. It seems many have never had a strong, intimate relationship with a friend that wasnt sexual in nature. I see this as 2 women who love each other, but sex has nothing to do with it. Those are some of the coolest friendships there are, and many never have that kind of closeness. Maybe if people would stop trying to see something that isnt there they may enjoy the cool friendship that right now is hurting.
