Finally, the holiday break has come to an end and we are getting new episodes of Supergirl! While this is more of a four episode oasis between two long breaks, new episodes are new and that is the best time to be a Supergirl fan. When we last left the Girl of Steel, she had been beaten so badly by Reign that she had fallen into a coma. Mon-El, Saturn Girl, Alex and The DEO seemed to be at a loss for how to help her. Thus, we get Brainiac 5, played to perfection by Jesse Rath! His charm and chemistry with Melissa was palpable! Of course that wasn't the only thing that stood out in this episode, here are the events that made our list:
- Brainiac 5 is Awestruck: It's been two days and Kara is still in her coma. First thing to happen, here comes Brainy! Brainy is totally excited to see Kara, she is like a celebrity to him. She is the reason why the Legion was created. However, it is revealed that Kara is trapped in her own brain-like prison and she begins to panic to get out knowing that Reign is still out there.
- Reign Chooses Catco for Her Message: Breaking into Catco, Reign brings the thief to the floor to make an example out of him. She asks that a TV camera be turned on her so she can deliver her message and start the "Awakening". Alex calls it a war on our entire justice system.
- The year 2455: A third degree extinction event occurs that wipes out much of the culture and history of humans. Those left come together in solidarity but much of what is known about this time period in the future is told from Mon-El's point of view. Briany cautions Mon-El even speaking about it and their mission, but it seems like a big deal. All they know is that Supergirl lives and Reign leaves somehow. We are already excited to learn more about this extinction event!!!!!
- "I'm Not Afraid": Kara basically goes supernova in her own brain to try and escape her prison, but as Brainy diagnosed, it wasn't an issue of brain damage nor that she wasn't physically ready. It was a spiritual block. Kara had been beaten worse than ever before and she is ... scared.
- J'onn Takes on Kara's Body Again: Seeing Melissa pretend to be J'onn pretending to be Kara is so hilarious! Of course Lena wants to talk to her best friend about her kiss with James and J'onn is having a hard time getting through giving advice. This scene took the cake! Too funny!
- Project Sun Down vs Reign: The DEO brought some impressive skill and firepower to bring down Reign, but it was clear that is wasn't enough. For the first time, we realize that it isn't just Kryptonian DNA that resides in Reign. Alex suggests that they use liquid Kryptonite and put it directly in her veins to stop her. Also we loved the call back to the Kryptonite chain from The Superman Movie 1978 and noted that that amount of Kryptonite incapacitated Supergirl in episode 304!
- Streaky the Cat: Kara found Streaky, a cat that she named after she had been on Earth for a while. She didn't want to touch him because she was so strong but she practiced and practiced and finally was able to pet him. He purred, she picked him up and for the first time she didn't feel like an alien on Earth! Beautiful call back to Streaky the cat from the comics but done in a new way!
- The Legion and Supergirl vs Reign: It was Kara that needed to walk through that door all along. Kara had been denying her human side for too long and shutting off that side of her wasn't the right call. The combination of Supergirl and Kara need to remain in balance and when one side of her hurts, she can lean on the other side of herself. The Legion fights well together but Reign does seem to be a bit more than they can handle. Of course, lucky for them and us, Supergirl wakes up and injects Reign with liquid Kryptonite! The day is won!
- Sister Moment on the Couch: Exactly what we were looking for to round out an amazing episode. Kara and Alex at Alex's place talking through the difficult issues together. Alex's leg is broken by Reign and Kara signs it for her. All in all, it was too cute and as always exactly what we like seeing.
Reign's other abilities seem to have allowed her to burn off the Kryptonite in her blood like a fever would a virus. Now, with Coville and her holographic mentor working on her side, Reign is introduced to the concept that there are others like her. Let that sink in for a moment, others like her would mean THERE ARE OTHER WORLD KILLERS this season!!!!!!! This season is shaping up to be the best so far! INCREDIBLE!

Love the show!
It ticked all the Supergirl boxes for me, looks like it was a good start back after the Christmas break.
that's very unfortunate. I have only seen SC shippers use it (and I am almost certain it was them that started calling them that).
It's become the name used by people that dislike the ship but it's not their official ship name.
It's not just Supercorp shippers that use that ship name for them...there are a lot of people out there on twitter land using it.
That's not their ship name. Only Supercorp shippers call them that since they hate the ship.
Their actual ship name is GuardianCorp.
The James/Lena relationship is empty and yet another Days of Our Lives attempt to move characters along…and rather plodding along at that. Another problem was once we saw Rudy in the opening acts of the show engage in a water gun fight with her mom…then after that, she is nowhere to be found.
There were nice little comedy bits in this show to kick off the first of four before a long 9-week hiatus, plus some fine adventure and good special effects. Looks like another solid effort.

In Kara’s apartment during the time she is in the coma, there are Post-It notes strewn all over the floor, and also holding on to a framed picture. OK, B-5’s looks are a downer, but his personality is a mix of Jim Carrey, Groucho Marx; and one of my idols Bob Hope; a little crazy, a little witty and funny, although I wouldn’t expect Jesse to break out into "Thanks for the Memory." What Brainy lacks in terms of his comic look, he makes up for in personality...loose and intellectual unlike Indigo or Brainiac. Jesse Rath said in an interview people would like Brainy. This is no idle boast.
Back on earth the war rages on and Reign is making easy work of Saturn Girl and Mon-El. Then, Jonn shows up and the two of them fight, but he takes the worst of it. Then Kara opens the door and returns. But at the prison, SG and Reign have at it despite her not so strong state. But with help from the Legion, SG is able to subdue Reign with kryptonite. Reign then flees the scene. But she will be back.
At the DEO Supergirl returns to see Imra a little worse for the wear. Then Kara and Mon-El meet up again. He was worried about her. Then Brainy and Kara have a final chat as do Jim and Lena who are back at CatCo together. It’s there they really cement their ‘ship. Back at Kara’s loft, Alex, cast and all, and Kara share a glass of wine…and a laugh. Kara had to remember who she was, and perhaps think about Mon-El differently. Alex calls it a new found wisdom.
But back at her fortress, an injured Reign recovers, only to meet up with her makers. And they say there are OTHER Worldkillers out there. AND THEN WE FIND COVILE EMPHASIZE VILE AS THE CULT LEADER JOINS REIGN! It’s a Berlnati curveball, one that was kind of expected
Back in Kara’s dream, she and Brainy talk as she rearranges the apartment. Well looks like Brainy got stumped. Back in reality, Alex apologizes to Kara for all she did. Alex wants her sister back. Then back in dream land. We find Kara had a pet…NONE OTHER THAN STREAKY THE CAT, who instead of being an orange cat, is a tuxedo or even a black cat…uh holy Salem from Sabrina?
But then at the DEO, they find Reign is about to hit Albatross prison. Left with no other choice and a hint by Imra at some exercise…the Legion suits up, rings and all. At Albatross the prisons are let out…with some to face their ULTIMATE JUDGEMENT from Reign the terrorist. Then in his cell, Covile prays to the all mighty kryptonian gods. But Reign is not buying it and is willing to kill. But then Reign is met by the legion to the sounds of LIVING ON A PRAYER, something this writer deciphered from the Admin’s cryptic Tweets.
