After tonight there are only four more all new Monday night Supergirl episodes left! Worry not though, next season will introduce the Girl of Steel on Sundays! (Just a friendly reminder since we want to make SURE everyone knows for season 4.) Tonight's all new episode examined some very difficult topics through the lens of a superhero show. James was left with a very difficult decision to make and Lena and Supergirl's relationship continued to decline putting Kara in a very awkward place. Here are the points that stood out to us!
- Lena Develops an Idea for a Cure for Sam: Lena notes that Kryptonians have cells that are more like plant cells than human. It makes sense that they would because they harness sunlight so well. Lena however, uses the moment to show how she isn't going to play games with Supergirl anymore.
- Coville's Cult Changes Deities: After escaping from the cult, Tanya finds James in an attempt to give Supergirl some very important information about what the Cult of Coville has been doing after Reign arrived. With Coville's disappearance, the cult planned to make him into a martyr. Their focus changed to worship Reign and not Supergirl.
- Guardian Saves Tanya: In a pretty epic fight and chase scene, James is able to get to Tanya and subdue the Coville cult members before they make Tanya do whatever it was she started. Unfortunately, when the cops arrive to assist, the cops make the wrong choice and hold him at gun point. Tanya then learns just who Guardian is. Unfortunately for James, the cult learns too and threatens to expose him to get the journal and Tanya back.
- Coville's Cult Wants a New Worldkiller: So after inspecting the remains that Supergirl and Mon-El find in the old cult location, Winn and Lena realize that the death was caused from an alloy not found on Earth. This alloy can make a new Worldkiller not a bomb! Furthermore, it could be used to save Sam from Reign's clutches!
- Mike Matthews Returns: Tanya makes a choice to stand up for herself and against the cult by turning herself over to them and thus saving Guardian. In order to protect her though, the D.E.O. brings back Mike Matthews (Mon-El) to accompany her. In a fake accident, Mon-El walks into the kidnapping car pretending it was a Lyft. He then uses his Legion ring to get a message to Supergirl.
- The Fourth Worldkiller: Olivia is able to complete the ritual and offers herself to become the next Worldkiller! Her powers aren't very clear but she is STRONG and the stone, a Sun Stone, is very powerful. Supergirl can't even touch it without loosing control. But, in the truest fashion of Supergirl, Kara is able to reach Olivia and get her to choose to not take on the Worldkiller's strength. Mon-El rushes in to remove the Sun Stone but it's bound to her. Kara needs to blast it out, harming Olivia but saving her as well.
Final wrap up moments. James and Kara come to peace both having to face what it would be like to reveal their identities. They come to an understanding that they both can respect. James knows that Kara keeps her identity secret for protection of her friends and family. Alex and Ruby also come to an understanding that is familiar to a big sister/mother figure. The episode ends with Lena and Winn figuring out a way to find more Sun Stones and Mon-El and Kara head out to capture it using J'onn's ship. Finally, in a surprise last scene, Coville himeself appears at the crime scene!

I second this excellent point Sadly we see less and less of Supergirl's powers. All too often she is just standing around at the DEO. She's not flying much or using her much of her other abilities. Maybe at the very end we'll see her use some strength and heat vision. Otherwise the writers seem more interested in building up Reign than Supergirl. I suppose we can expect more of this in what's left in season 3. The last episodes have already been done or as the saying goes, "the hay is in the barn".
Still there is season 4. Hopefully the writers will remember that this is not the Reign show or the Guardian show but the Supergirl show and in season 4 we'll see more of Supergirl in action. There's more to Supergirl than seeing Kara wear the outfit. It's time for her to show her sutff again. Let Supergirl be super.
1. It was pretty unbelievable that the DEO with all their high tech alien gadgets couldn't effectively track a truck, regardless of whatever countermeasures they were using. Additionally, Supergirl should have been hovering high up in the sky out of sight watching the truck in case of trouble, and she could have followed the truck if the tracker failed. It's kind of hard to protect someone when you're standing around at the DEO.
2. Mon El didn't bother to try to stop Olivia from completing the ceremony, even when it was clear that the team wouldn't arrive in time. At best they were going to blow themselves up, and at worst they were going to create a new World Killer. All he had to do was whisk Olivia or the artifact away with his super speed, like he did with the sun crystal, and the whole thing could have been averted.
The writers do seem to be all over the place at times. there has been IMO irrefutable proof that Lena knows Kara's secret but then they are trying to make us believe that Lena doesn't know and after all that's happened that would be a ridiculously unbelievable move on their part
The James/Lena thing never made any sense so anything they do here is no surprise
Even if Lena did make Kryptonite ages ago I can't blame her for being cautious. We have had far too many bad Kryptonians that some kind of defence against possible attacks is only prudent. There was a perfect chance for Lena to get rid of SG when those Nano things covered her but Lena sarificed Jack, a guy she cared a great deal about to save SG. That's not the act of an evil or crazy person. But knowing these writers they'll have her make it out of thin air at the drop of a hat
*boom* perfect mic drop moment.
csi Cameron, I think I love you.
Aaacctually... We don't actually know when Lena made the Kryptonite. I suspect it was long ago due to the fact that she would have already needed to have it in order to contain Reign so quickly. Thus, I suspect she didn't make it TO help her friend. She had it on hand already.
Agreed on all counts.
And the way she is still excited to see Kara makes me believe she really hasn’t figured out they’re one in the same. Which I find weird considering she figured out Sam/Reign.
The writers are just all over the place with this. They really need to fix it and hopefully everything comes full circle by the end of the season.
Do we really know that? That’s what she says but she hasn’t been honest before.
As to how she was afraid of the reaction she’d get and it was exactly what she feared... she also came in guns blazing with her briefcase of kryptonite saying stuff like “don’t panic. It’s lead lined”. She already came in with the attitude that she was going to get some sort of grief about it instead of bringing it in, but saying “Hey Supergirl, can we talk in private.” And calmly explaining herself and her fears as to why she held back with supergirl. I’m sure SG would’ve been more receptive to that than her “Hey I’ve got this stuff and calm your s*^% down SG cuz it’s lead lined and I knew you’d react like this.”
Also the James/Lena relationship is hard to believe. I have a hard time taking James seriously about his whole “honesty” thing when every time he uses it it’s to get into some girl’s pants.
