All good things must come to an end. Entertainment Weekly just broke the news that season six will be the last season of the show. The writers room is already working on developing a final 20 episode season to send off the Girl of Steel. Whether this choice comes from cancellation or that Melissa didn't want to keep doing the show is unclear. We are still pleased that we will get one more season with The Girl of Steel and our hope is that this will be the best one yet! Of course, the new show, Superman and Lois will be a great crutch for us to lean on and opens the door for guest apperances!
Additionally, our Girl of Steel herself had this to say about the final season:
To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless.
She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful.
I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season. ♥️ el mayarah

On the one hand, it was a dream of mine to see Supergirl come to the TV screen. I must admit watching reruns of The Adventures of Superman and Wonder Woman I did in my mind switching of the plots and characters to include Supergirl and her co-stars including the likes of Rick Malverne.
On the other hand, the 4th season was the downfall where left-wing, globalist propaganda weighed down the show insulting conservatives, libertarians, independents and those in so-called flyover country in the Midwest US. Ironic isn't it that in flyover country is Superman's first home of Smallville, KS?
Though season 5 had wonky writing, it was mostly woke-free (except the Dreamer centric episode which reverted back to 4 bashing conservatives), even going to the point of warning of the dangers of an over relying on technology.
(OT, there is a new show on Fox called "NEXT" where a scientist's AI experiment goes haywire and he teams with a special agent to try and stop it before it does major damage to humanity.)
To be honest I do not know what this last season will bring. By the time it airs, we still may not know in the US who will be President or if the effects of the China Virus (Covid-19) will still linger.
Unfortunately, Melissa has no way to guarantee that promise. It's up to the showrunners and writers. Unfortunately, they've always been the weak link on the show.
That being said, I hope they deliver a stellar season, and give this series worthy of being the best of Supergirl.

Yes indeed! We definitely live in a strange world and a strange time. Everything across the board is being delayed, pushed back, scrapped or on-hold.
It will be interesting to see what's left when the dust finally settles.
I assumed 7 seasons as she was reportedly under contract for 7 years. I really didn't think she sign on for more, unless the new contract was for fewer episodes and a lesser work schedule, as she seemed to enjoy her Broadway gig and work for Chris could take him stateside. But, six years is a solid run.
Re: Last post (# 80). Very well said!

It was her portrayal of the central character that showed everyone that the greatest strength that any hero can have isn't their powers or skills, but the character within her heart and compassion in her soul.
We will all miss Kara Danvers, Kara Zor-El, and Supergirl; so thank you, Melissa, for bringing this truly 21st Century hero to life for all of us to enjoy."

100% agree. She and the supporting cast and crews have done fantastic and exceptional work with what they've been given. This must be duly noted and emphasised fully.
In spite of some issues that I've had with this show's continuity or consistency, it has been my favourite show in many years. I always believed that it did a far better job of creating a modern-day version of a comic book hero than any other show, in that it came closer to the traditional concept of a super-hero as someone who always found a way to rise above whatever their own personal issues were to handle any crisis. In this regard, Kara was much better at doing this than Oliver Queen or Barry Allen were, and I enjoyed this show because of that.

Thank you Brierrose - This show definitely has my votes - thanks for the link
Good suggestion... I am wondering how they will wrap up the S5 stragglers. I was thinking a female version of the Annointed One could come to the aid of Gamemnae, but I hope they wrap that up quickly. The inappropriate for the workplace outfit Gemma/Gamemnae was wearing in the entertaining makeshift finale looked very Atlantean. The Annointed One has history with both Atlantis and Gamemnae. Considering Cisco mentioned Atlantis on Flash, I could see it indirectly fit into the Supergirl plot.
P.s. Margo was one of my favorite characters from Magicians, so I really like the Summer suggestion.
