It's simply a good time to be a fan of Kryptonians! Superman and Lois are shattering network records and just when they go on an unplanned Covid-19 related hiatus, Supergirl, "The more famous cousin" steps back into the light! While we've seen some of the other Arrowverse shows struggle due to Covid-19 and not being able to finalize their previous season, Supergirl only had one episode left before wrapping up. Judging from the synopsis of our season 6 premiere, we are going to get that final piece of the puzzle and it sounds like a HUGE deal! Check out the synopsis for yourself below:
SEASON PREMIERE – As Brainiac (Jesse Rath) lays close to death after trying to stop Lex (Jon Cryer), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and team soar in to save him, engaging in an epic battle with Gamenmae (guest star Cara Buono). After beating Leviathan, Supergirl turns her attention to Lex who has used the Obsidian platform to brainwash half the world to love him and follow him at all costs, no matter what horrible things he does. Knowing how dangerous this makes her brother, Lena (Katie McGrath) enlists the entire team – Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood), Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Kelly (Azie Tesfai) and Brainiac – to help, but Supergirl realizes that the only way to truly stop Lex is to sacrifice herself. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Jay Faerber & Jess Kardos (#601).
In other news, Spoilertv.com has gathered the first 7 episode titles for The Girl of Steel's final season. They are:
- Rebirth
- A Few Good Women
- Phantoms of the Opera
- Lost Souls
- Prom Night
- Prom Again!
- Fear Knot

I couldn't have said it any better Kelly - I agree with you 100%
I get all of that, and understand. Then I guess my hope is that they do not repeat Season 4 and have written Supergirl in in a much stronger manner in the 1st episodes. OR write the last 14 episodes with Supergirl as much of the central point as she was in Season 1. I do not want a goodbye episode for every character. Supergirl all the way, all the time.
Now with this first show cleaning up what was left from the last show in season 5 it is consistent that SuperGirl sacrifices herself to save the world. I have no doubt that her sister and J'onn will work with the team to bring her back from whatever befalls her. However, it does make me wonder just how season 6 will end - if it is consistent then SuperGirl will come back from whatever it is she has to do to save the world - I just hope the writers maintain their consistency on that point when they write the end to this season.
That's a great way of stating this, Brierrose! I hadn't thought about it in those terms until now, but I feel exactly the same.
I was thinking Alex's Prom, then Kara's Prom.
Prom Again!
Sounds like the possible two-parter for Olivia and Izabela. Unless "Prom Night" sets up a present day "Prom Again!"
Regardless, the exclamation mark on the latter kills me.
It would have been nice. But in a world where "renewed" shows were then cancelled due to COVID, I don't think the network was necessarily willing to wait even longer. I'd have to find the article, again, but supposedly (emphasis on "supposedly") production delays on Supergirl are one of the reasons they chose to end it (just one of many factors, along with ratings, Melissa's contract, Melissa having a new family, etc).
It's crappy to say out loud, but I get it. They've had to start without Melissa twice. Once for her Broadway stint before season 4, and now for maternity leave in season 6.
Let me clarify, these are both wonderful things, and I would never fault Melissa, or anyone, for seizing those opportunities, and I'm glad they accommodated her. But, having spent the last year in Vancouver learning about the film process, I can confidently say that having to start without your lead, then fill their material in on the back end, is not convenient or cheap. And while it's easy to say "they should have just waited until Melissa was available", it's ultimately up to the network and the production company as to when production resumes. And with hundreds of other jobs waiting to resume, practically, it's not necessarily the fairest call to say "all of you are out of a job until this single person is available, again".
Bit of a side rant, but whatever.
Really, my biggest issue is that the FINAL season started without Melissa, and is hindered by COVID restrictions. I would be forgiving if it was just another season...But having the final season start out with such a handicap makes me sad.
Regardless, I'm hoping for the best out of this season.
Not to get political, but this synopsis portion relating to Lex really sounds familiar.
It sounds like Leviathan will be done after this episode... will we even get to meet Gamenmae's superior (big boss)?
