It seems a little premature to be talking about Supergirl season 3 when season 2 hasn't even ended yet, but because the show is 22 episodes long this year, its conclusion falls after the famous Upfront presentations. The Upfronts are presentations that networks make to prospective advertisers. There are usually two a year. Traditionally, its a big deal for new shows to get debuted, previewed, or sometimes released in some fashion here but active shows also are covered to a much lesser degree. So, announcing their 2017-2018 tv season schedule, the CW included this description of Supergirl season 3:
SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC character Kara Zor-El, (Melissa Benoist) Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later, Kara was living in National City and still concealing her powers, when a plane crash threatened Alex’s life and Kara took to the sky to save her. Now, Kara balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with her work for the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government organization whose mission is to keep National City – and the Earth – safe from sinister threats. At the DEO, Kara works for J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood), the Martian Manhunter, and alongside her sister, Alex, and best friend, Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan). Also in Kara’s life are media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), a photo journalist who moonlights as Guardian, a masked vigilante, Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath), and Mon-El of Daxam (Chris Wood), whose planet was ravaged by Krypton’s destruction. As Kara struggles to navigate her relationships and her burgeoning life as a reporter, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime. Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, SUPERGIRL is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“The Flash,” “Arrow”), Andrew Kreisberg (“The Flash,” “Arrow”), Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash”), Robert Rovner (“Private Practice,” “Dallas”) and Jessica Queller (“Gilmore Girls,” “Gossip Girl,” “Felicity”).
It doesn't tell us too much but does mention a few things of note. Mon-El is certainly back for the next season, James may still be the Guardian and it mentions Calista Flockhart which would also give more fuel to the rumors she'll be back much more in season 3! It would seem from this press release that Ali Adler has moved on to other opportunities but that is only inferred here not proven.
Finally, The CW is shuffling the schedules around for next year but unsurprisingly, Supergirl remains in its anchor weeknight kickoff spot, Monday's at 8pm!

I see this as an Action/Adventure genre not Romance. The cw should consider that, Action/Adventure over Romance. The most I'd want to see is some romance for SUpergirl. However as this is her show and she is the prime attraction I am not "broadminded" about who I want to see. There's a reason I watch this program and it's not an interest in the love lives of other characters.
I agree in my opinion it seemed to me that James only wanted to become a hero the guardian after mon El started to become one and started to fight beside Kara.
I can't believe James as Guardian either. I wasn't looking for Mon-el to take a Guardian role but at least it would have been plausible for him. I don't know anyone who takes James as Guardian seriously except the writers who unfortunately keep trotting out this implausible "hero". I hope that this summer the writers review their creation and the underwhelming fan reaction and reconsider this questionable creation.
The CW loves to bring romantic situations into their shows for gossip lovers to talk about so I don't think they'll leave that out on their network shows anytime soon

I hope Mon El will be back for Season 3 I love him and Kara together and if anyone deserves to be happy it's Kara! She has sacrificed so much for everyone else.
Furthermore between the 2 talks the one between her and Kal and the one between her and Alex, I think kar found more comfort in Kal's words then Alex's cause Kal can understand what Kara is going though in more ways then Alex ever could and even he told Kara that he didn't think he could make the choice she did if it came to choosing Lois and the Earth.
I hope he returns both of them are perfect together. I'm also glad they are dating in real life.
"Namely by shooting them..." bah ha ha ha Good one, Captain Past! And I fully agree with you. I was surprised they didn't have more interactions between Lena and Winn after their "under the table" connection. They could be a funny, dynamic, interesting pairing to see develop, if they're going to continue with romance into Season 3. Still hoping for less romance next season, but wouldn't mind seeing something develop with Winn/Lena...two of Kara's best friends. His current relationship bugs--way too much "baby talk" and her eye contacts remind me too much of my high school students at Halloween. lol
