Supergirl's 100th Episode Synopsis

It's always been a hallmark goal to hit for any television series, 100 episodes! The rule used to be that if you could hit 100 episodes, you could go into syndication! No matter the benefits, 100 episodes is still quite a large accomplishment and all of the cast and crew should be thrilled that they've hit this achievement. Mxyzptlk arrives to offer Kara a choice. What would her life be like if she told Lena about being Supergirl first, before Lex could? Just about everyone can possibly appear! Read the synopsis for yourself below:

THOMAS LENNON (“RENO 911”) GUEST STARS IN SUPERGIRL’S 100 TH EPISODE – Mxyzptlk (guest star Thomas Lennon) returns with a proposition for Kara (Melissa Benoist) – what if she could go back in time and tell Lena (Katie McGrath) her secret before Lex did, would things turn out different? For the love of Rao can we please have a Cat Grant return? Kara was at her best with Alex and Cat’s influence. She was more, Super so to say. I am sure I am in the minority but the show has gotten away from what made it special. Too many characters now, not enough sisters.

As for them using that relationship for the 100th episode. 100th episode is part of the season as much as series. As such, they couldn't have possibly taken an issue that has nothing to do with the season. I think that is why they took this while using it as a hook to take a walk through memory lane and examine Kara's values and the quintessential question of secret identity and how it affects the relationships that the superhero has.
That’s what they did with Flash’s 100th. They made the 100th a trip down memory lane but fit it into the overall theme and arc of the season itself.

Arrow too somewhat did a variation of Its a Wonderful Life. It fell during the Alien Invasion crossover and they did a "what if" dream sequence.

Why is her relation with Lena so important?

It may have to do with a lot of things. Clark's relationship with Lex (if the show subscribes to smallville cannon) and how he turned out evil. Kara's sense of failure with Livewire and especially Astra. Her own guilt that she may have never given Lena a chance because of the Luthor name however misplaced.

I don't think it is the relationship that is important even to Kara but Kara's idea of her own self and her values with respect to the relationship. She believes in giving everyone a chance irrespective of their background; and believes everyone can be redeemed. So, the whole Lena thing, and her own behaviour with Lena could be read as a challenge to that. As her struggling to place her values in a larger context where everything isn't her responsibility.

I'm always happy for a new episode with the hope that any misgivings I have about the synopsis, what I've heard, seen, etc......will be thrown out the window and it will be an excellent episode.

That is how I go into all episodes.

I guess I'm just so tired of waiting for episodes to be aired that I am thankful for any SuperGirl episode regardless of the synopsis. I will just be happy to see a new episode.

An idle thought during this brief hiatus, but if Kara is torn about whether or not to reveal her identity to William, that could be the trigger that causes Mxy to appear and lead into this episode.

That's a very good theory! I was also thinking that maybe Kara gets everything she ever wanted : Lena's friendship and a long term relationship with Mon-El. But in this scenario, Alex dies. Kara chooses to sacrifice everything so that her sister lives! I think that this would make for a very emotional episode. Finally, there were some rumors (pictures) that Kara could reveal her identity to the world in coming episodes. Is this in this dream scenario? I'm in the minority I guess, but I'm very excited for this episode. I understand some fans don't like the sypnosis for this episode, but after all, it's just a sypnosis. We might be in for a real treat!

Why is her relation with Lena so important?

In universe, I suppose it goes back to what Kara said to Lena and Sam sometime in Season 3. As close as I can remember, "I've had friends, but I've never had best friends."

With Lena, she had a level of friendship that she had never experienced before, and losing it troubles her to no end.

I think Kara's stubborn streak and inherent desire to fix things play a role as well.
