Superfriends Song Written for Musical

The musical crossover is going to be an incredible and fun time for both the cast and crew as well as the audience! We learned a while ago that there would be at least one specially written song for the musical and today we know what that is via Buzzfeed. Its called "Superfriends" and will be performed by Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin! Further more, the song was written by network co-star Rachel Bloom from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Here's what she had to say:

As soon as I heard that they were doing a musical crossover, I e-mailed Mark Pedowitz who connected me to Greg and Andrew. I immediately offered them my services. Once they picked one of my song ideas, I hopped on the phone with my old Robot Chicken boss Tom Root and we brainstormed and, based on that brainstorm, I wrote up the song ‘Superfriends.’ I am so excited to contribute more to the upward trend that is musicals in television and film. Music can be one of the most amazing and efficient forms of storytelling and character development. Also, it was really fun to write a comedy song for two superheroes.

Additionally, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the award-winning songwriting team behind La La Land‘s City of Stars, have written the original song “Runnin’ Home to You,” to be performed by Gustin.

The Musical starts on Supergirl and is episode 216 which airs March 20th. The second portion is on The Flash episode 317 and takes place March 21st. For more on who is signing check out this article!

If you haven't watched Rachel Bloom in "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" yet, you should check it out. Very, very funny. The music is extremely clever. She is a singer/songwriter/comedian/actress who deserves your attention. Some of the songs on the show are written/co-written by Adam Schlesinger who is also the "Executive Music Producer' (whatever that means). Adam is a member of the band Fountains of Wayne and also co-wrote the title song for the movie "That Thing You Do." Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the best musical comedy show since "Flight Of The Concords".

I love these days when there's lots of exciting news about the show and this song should be an absolute fun listen and watch.

I assume Melissa and Grant will perform this as Supergirl and The Flash and not Kara and Barry. At least that's what I hope anyway.

I really hope Melissa gets an original song too! That's all I want. Just that for this episode. But that write up about a 'comedy' song for Melissa and Grant is right up their alley. Sure the song wasn't originally called 'Super Dorks.

I'm betting it will be a singing, dancing Duet and wait for it, with TAP DANCING. :)

I remember them both saying they loved tap dancing numbers when they were Glee Babies. Then when Melissa was asked in an recent interview about the possibility of it, she kinda laughed, but really didn't answer the question. Hmmm.

Yeah, I'm going to be a little ticked if she doesn't get an original solo, unless her solo is a very good song.... :)

There is massive potential for showstoppers in this musical episode starting of course with Grant and Melissa's "Superfriends." The chemistry the two have had on screen has been fun and is set to go to another level.

Well then again Melissa and Grant are both silly people so this makes sense with Melissa being IMHO the sillier of the two.

March isn't that far away.
Rom, the way TV shows are filmed they can be done...ahem...faster than a speeding bullet! I had to say it!

One other things Rachel said...

Well there has been lots of recent TV success like with Grease (where Melissa and Jenna Dewan Tatum visited the set when they were in Hollywood), Hairspray, The Sound of Music and also La La Land for the movies. But this will never outdo the musical movies of the golden age of cinema like anything MGM did. Also on TV this was done before. Mary Martin in 1969 played Peter Pan on NBC. It was shown again in 1989.

Should be interesting to see and hear. Let's hope it turns out as anticipated. March isn't that far away. :-)

Most exciting. Especially now that there is a Supergirl portion outlined too. I love The Flash but it shouldn't have all the glory
