Welcome back Supergirl fans! How are you guys enjoying Stargirl as a lead-in? We love the girl power double-hour we get every Tuesday! If you are following along with Stargirl, be sure to check out and comment on our sister site, Stargirl.tv. Before we jump into tonight's episode, a moment of bewilderment. We don't know why the CW isn't releasing trailers for upcoming episodes. The only correlation we've found is that this was true for the back half of Black Lightning as well when they were on their final season. Sorry those aren't coming out. Now, Nyxly has been able to fool Dreamer into manifesting her into the real world but just what does the imp have in store for Earth now that she's here? Here's what stood out to us:
- Nyxly Manifested: Nyxly shows up in Nia’s home with her. Imp says she promises to bring her mother back to life, but as long as she is alive, Nia is trapped in a realm she can’t get in or out of. Nyxly leaves, and Nia sees her mother. They hug and her mother asks, “What have you done?” Nia begs her to help understand her dreams and powers, and her mother warns her of the serious error she made in releasing Nyxly. A commercial involving Brainy and Supergirl promoting eating vegetables. The video stops and Kara expresses how embarrassing Brainy’s PSA video is. She doesn’t want it published, but he has already posted the video and it received thousands of views. Alex and Kelly train together, getting Kelly towards her goal of being the new guardian. Kelly receives a phone call about Joey and needs to leave. Joey and his brother attempted to get an apartment but it fell through. Supergirl visits Orlando to listen to his side of the story. She offers to help find an apartment, but he reminds her it’s not that simple for a former criminal. Nyxly gets trapped by a spaceship run by Naxim’s former partner, who wants to use her as a main attraction for a zoo. She explains that she is powerless, and is set free. She sees headlines of Supergirl on the bulletin board, and suggests that she help him trap Supergirl.
- Kara & Affordable Housing vs City Counsel: Kara is going to use Supergirl to try and change the city's mind about selling the affordable housing building to a tech firm. Andrea uses the opportunity to force Supergirl to use Catco media to change the city's mind which get's Catco in the game. Nia and her mother use the time to train in her dream realm. Supergirl does the Q&A but is cut short when she hears someone in trouble.
- Blast from Midvale's Past: The aliens trying to make the zoo from Prom Night have returned and Kara remembers them from high school. Nia continues to train with her mother and breaks down the symbols and issues that block Nia's potential. Supergirl goes to speak with the city council member who's the swing vote. She isn't interested in what Supergirl has to say. Supergirl and Kelly talk about how to switch up their strategy. Nyxly continues to manipulate the zoo creator to capture Supergirl.
- Nyxly a Dark Threat: Nyxly is revealed to be a very dangerous threat as Nia's mom prepares her for the battle to come. She will be responsible for all of Nyxly's dark actions. Supergirl brings Orlando to the city vote and he speaks about how he will be displaced by their vote. He looks like he's got them on his side when Nyxly decloaks the space ship and launches the bomb the alien was forced to make. Its some kind of Nuclear ice bomb that can capture and hold a Kryptonian. Team Supergirl doesn't move against Nyxly as they don't know her and Supergirl is on the ground.
- Freeze Bomb: The bomb is released and is growing exponentially. The more it grows the more the cold will freeze everything in its path. Kara and J'onn working together and are able to blow up the bomb without it expanding into the city. Brainy evacuates everyone on his ship.
In the final wrap up moments, the city council votes to keep the building zoned as affordable housing. Kara and Brainy share a moment on the balcony and fear the change isn't enough. The left over energy from Supergirl blowing up the bomb is absorbed by Nyxly. She has used Supergirl to regain her powers. Nyxly is dead set on going back to her realm and killing her father but before she does, she wants the same for Supergirl. Nyxly destroys the building for low income housing and Kara calls for Mr. Mxyzptlk!

That was a highlight. It takes real talent to come across as that bad.
Kara can eat as many doughnuts as she likes--Supergirl is impervious to heart disease.
I am fascinated by the number of people who continue to speculate that Mxy might be Nyxly's father.
Back in episode 6.03 "Phantom Menaces" when Kara Zor-El was trapped in the Phantom Zone and she and Nyxly had just met and were cautiously getting to know each other, Kara mentioned knowing Mr. Mxyzptlk, and Nyxly's immediate reaction was to laugh and comment that "You know Mxy? He's a wild card", or something like that.
And yet during the same conversation a short time later Nyxly described her father as "a paranoid narcissist' and told about how he had killed her brother before banishing her to the Phantom Zone.
Now at that point in their just-new relationship Nyxly had no way of knowing that Kara knew of a possible way to escape from the Phantom Zone, so she had nothing to gain by plotting to deceive Kara just quite yet. So if Mxy somehow was her clearly-hated father and murderer of her brother, then why would she have described him in such a glowing way?
As with everything 5th dimensional, we will all have to take a wait-and-see approach to this, but with Mxy appearing in the next episode, it will be interesting to hear what kind of a literal song and dance we get from him. And if his appearance of last year is any indication, I'm sure it will be both entertaining and fun to watch.
Almost as much fun as watching Supergirl and Brainiac-5 painfully overacting while discouraging people from eating doughnuts when we all know that both of them have had a persistent weakness for them for longer than we can remember.
Parts of this episode were pretty rough, but for concept and execution, I would take it over just about any of last season's Flash episodes. (I tapped out after Cisco's goodbye episode.)
Unless the show utterly collapses in the home stretch, I'll be around for the finale.
It may have already reached Flash/Legends of tomorrow unwatchable-ness in many fans eyes. But like you I watch on because of loyalty to Melissa and the show. As I have stated earlier that this next episode is a make or break it for me . You have an opportunity for your Mickey Mantle to swing away and blast a tape measure shot into the center field bleachers and should take it. If Melissa isn't fully engaged with this musical scene then I'm out the door.
In the final season which is Amazing to see. You see her as Kara at Catco and you see her as Supergirl giving advise and you see her doing heroics as Supergirl. I can not see how anyone can complain that Supergirl/Kara is getting the most screen time. Which is the way it should be always because its her show
Alex & Supergirl/Kara definitely need more screen time, thats obvious and hopefully will be coming soon.
Lena happens to be an amazing character and one who is very necessary to have on the show. Have you forgotten that she is KARA's BEST FRIEND? That is a fact and you just throwing her under the bus everytime you mention her means nothing but you lack of appreciation for her as a prime character. Its that simple. You just dont get it.
That is so true - the scripts have been written and the episodes have been finished and taped - so all we can do is look and accept and try to enjoy what has been given to us.
You make a good point about the singing that could be done by dialogue - will be interesting to see how they do this episode. I do hope if there is singing that it is Melissa but from something I saw posted by Nia in facebook - I have a feeling that she will be singing too.
