Season 5 Finale Recap

OK, first of all, we know the countdown clock looks scary. It is only an estimate right now but unfortunately that is the wait we are looking at. Don't worry though, Supergirl.tv will be here to help you through the wait. We can also cover Superman and Lois here, let us know your thoughts on that in the comments below. Supergirl had some of their season finale filmed when quarantine started so that footage was added/edited so we are expecting a little more cohesive finale unlike the Flash for example. Did team Supergirl bring down Lex and Leviathan? Here's what stood out to us:

  1. Leviathan Visit: Lex starts the episode by walking into Leviathan's ship. He is clearly not welcomed there, but his presence is tolerated. We see there are more members of Leviathan. They are using rings to charge with Kryptonite which will kill Supergirl. Back at Kara's place, Lena and team discuss making an anti-Kryptonite suit. They need to get Kara to Lena's lab to make the suit but Rama Khan will sense her wherever they go. J'onn and M'gann shape shift to fool them. Alex reveals she has a new suit and Kara screams! So cute. We learn that Leviathan has another member that we haven't met that runs everything. The decoys seem to work and Kara and Lena get to her office but both teams fighting Leviathan are taking hits.
  2. Lena's Lab: Back at the lab, we learn that J'onn has been injured in the fight. Alex hears that William is missing. Alex tells Kara she and Kelly will handle it. Brainy summons his other form/real life sister. He is planning on going into Leviathan's ship to shrink the gods and in doing so, killing himself to protect his friends. Lex launches the world wide unity festival.
  3. Inside Obsidian Corp: Alex breaks Kelly into Obsidian. They are in the server room hoping to stop the world live event. Back at Lena's lab, Lena is desperate to get Kara back but Kara really lets her have it. Kara let's Lena know there is no absolution when it comes to her. William is captured by Eve and she is not in a good place. William knows she is trapped by Lex. He can read the situation and deduces that her mother is threatened. William gets shot but Supergirl and Lena arrive in time to close the wound with heat vision. Kara's power use summons the three Leviathan element wielders. Supergirl isn't doing well against the Kryptonite but her team arrives in time and she gets the suit on. She uses the thunder clap technique on them. Once they return from being vaporized, Supergirl knows she's got to retreat.
  4. Brainy's Gambit: Knowing the location of the Leviathan ship, Brainy heads to the ship. He hides behind the bar in the ship so they can't see him. Back at Lena's lab, Supergirl talks to Eve to learn Lex's plan. Dreamer reflects on her dreams and M'Gann heads to give her the pep talk she needs. Dreamer isn't ready to take her advice. Brainy in the ship begins to upload his shrink code. He has to take the pain of the ship for ten minutes without removing his hand. Supergirl and team jump into the festival. She needs to talk the people out of the virtual paradise of their own free will.
  5. Battle for Earth: Supergirl is in the system but her body is vulnerable. Lex suggests that Gemma send an assassin to kill Supergirl when she is in the system. This version of Andrea doesn't have the history like before because of Crisis. Supergirl starts to speak to everyone in the system at once. Being stuck in the system, the only one protecting Supergirl in the real world is Lena. Lena has to talk Andrea out of killing Supergirl. With three "I believe in you's" Supergirl saves the world, Lena saves Supergirl and Brainy uploads the shrink code.

In the final wrap up moments, Lex realizes what has happened. No longer connected to their ship, Leviathan is trapped and powerless. Lex arrives on the ship to find Brainy dying with Leviathan in his hands. Lex takes the bottle seemingly as he always intended. Dreamer dreams how Brainy saved everyone. She needs to go to him. Supergirl unites Tess with her mother. Supergirl and Lena finally say they're sorry. They choose to team up to stop Lex. Lex delivers Leviathan to his mother and they begin their work. Gemma burns off her human skin and is full robot now. We end with "to be continued".

It seems to be a thing with the CW to have large ensembles and then try and service every actor every episode. I'm fine with this, I just don't think that every hero, needs to be in every fight scene. I keep thinking each season that they may have figured out that fans really love it when Supergirl saves the day on her own....we get a few scenes like that, and then the rest it is Superfriends Unlimited.....I have given up on that....lol.

Yes, a lot of fans here, including me, want to see Supergirl save the day solo. I love the other heroes, but I'd like to see them fall back and help occassionally rather than weekly.

"Team Supergirl is becoming quite large, but that can be made to work. One way to solve the problem of not having enough Supergirl is to not have every team member in every episode.

I totally agree... or they could appear in a lesser capacity. For example, Nia could be in a Catco scene with Kara, but does not necessarily need to be fighting alongside Supergirl in a fight scene for the same episode. The show just needs better balance. Sometimes, we just need Supergirl to save the day and at othertimes, we may need the entire Team Supergirl.

"Team Supergirl is becoming quite large, but that can be made to work. One way to solve the problem of not having enough Supergirl is to not have every team member in every episode. In Season 5, we had a couple of episodes without Dreamer. I like Dreamer, but I didn't miss her on those episodes because I was looking for Supergirl. The central plot just needs to revolve around Supergirl. It did seem to revolve around Lex and Supergirl's reaction to him as opposed to having Supergirl at the center of the plot."

Yes - and that's exactly what I've done in my fan fiction stories! In the latest one, I just had Kara and Alex travel to Blue Valley, Nebraska, to team up with Stargirl. The other members of the Team were involved in projects related to their jobs, and weren't able to take the time off to make the trip from California to Nebraska. And of course, that's what does happen in real life. You can't always get time off whenever you want it! I see no reason that the TV show writers can't do the same thing.

"Here's to a happy and safe summer, everyone, and remember, we have 5 seasons of Supergirl to keep us company until Season 6 kicks off! :)"

Thanks - same to you!
(And I'll keep writing and posting links to my own stories in the Forum until Season 6 begins :)

Did we ever get actual confirmation that they used footage from 5x20 in 5x19? If they did, I'd like to know which scenes were added.

Sounds like a good idea. Meadows can take the lead by creating a thread in the Forum and come up with a schedule.

I don't mind taking the lead at all, but I couldn't figure out how to start a new forum in the Forum. LOL!!

I'm happy to teach you that. Go into the Forum and at the top there's a Pencil Icon (Ask a Question) which you click on to start a thread. You'll see a question What is on your mind? which is where you put the title of the thread (something like Supergirl Season 1 Episode Re-watch Discussion), write some text in the space provided where it says "Please enter some contents for your question here" and then click Submit towards the bottom of the Page and your thread is created.

Give it a try anyway, if you would rather not I'll happily do it for you.

Yes, that worked perfectly! I thought that was actually for asking questions. I've set up a forum where we can begin re-watching Supergirl Season 1 on Sunday, May 31, and we will watch one episode of Season 1 each Sunday from that point until we've covered its 20 episodes. :)

I'm a huge Superman fan going back to when I was a child.Superman was my gateway to all the other comic characters I love.Superman was the first comic character I followed before it expanded to all the other comics I read now.

So I'm very excited about a new Superman show or Superman related show.

For Super fans,tv has been the gift that keeps on giving in the modern day.

Superboy/The Adventures of Superboy(1989-1992)
Lois & Clark:The New Adventures Of Superman(1993-1997)
Smallville(2001-2011)
Supergirl(2015- )
Krypton(2018-2019)
Superman & Lois (2021)

And you had the 1950's Superman show too.

The cool thing is,each series is very different from each other. They manage to find new spins for each series.Superman & Lois sounds nothing like previous Super shows which I like.

I think Superman and Lois will be a hit because of the following points that differ for SuperGirl:

1. Superman's relationship with Lois is accepted. Supergirl's relationship with anybody is always questioned and usually not favorably looked upon.

2. They will show the whole spectrum of the powers of the man of Steel - on SuperGirl we have to beg to see 2 -3 powers/season.

3. Superman's life with 2 teenage kids is accepted without question. Supergirl would have a mass number of unfavorable mail regarding her having kids which needless to say if her having a love life is not accepted then kids aren't even in question.

4. Superman's show will be centered mainly on him and his family. We have to fight to get
3-4 shows per season that center on Kara and her family.

So I think Superman will definitely be a success because the powers to be will make sure its a success.

I started a forum topic on this entitled: Do you think there is a difference between the way male Superheroes are treated compared to female super heroes?

To me the only potentially interesting character in the Superman show is the Super Baby. I'm hoping he can walk around and do baby talk when the show airs. I don't think there would be a show if not for Super Baby.
Then you're going to be disappointed S&L will be skipping the baby and kid phases entirely. Lois and Clark will have teenage twin sons.

So that's between the ages of 13 through 19. Let's hope for the thirteen year old age with one being a very good boy while the other is a very mischievous pain in the arse. Then maybe I'll watch. ;-)

Twins... One of the actors cast is 20, so I'm assuming high school students. One's a popular athlete type, the other is brain smart type. They sound a little Clark- and Lex- like to me. Since Lex helped form Earth Prime as a Paragon proxy in Crisis and the second boy didn't exist pre-Crisis, I can't help but think Lex is somehow behind the creation of the mysterious second child. Just speculation on my part obviously, but good CW-type drama.
