But we haven't seen or heard anything about the device since that episode. So how can we use something that has been seemingly tossed aside as evidence of her distrust?
How many times has Supergirl confronted Lena about her family? The only time that comes to mind is when she told Lena her mother was the head of Cadmus.
It seems that you're basing your claim of her distrust of aliens on a device that is no longer around and a confrontation that has only happened once (unless there was another time that I'm forgetting).
Quoting Kelly:
Im wondering about if the alien detection device would work on Samantha/Reign. The DEO clearly show they can detect kryptonian signatures but nobody was alerted that there was anything odd about Sam. So Im guessing her biology only manifests at special times.
I'm not saying they have to do anything with it again, only that it shows that Lena has had influence on her way of thinking from her family, as well as the fact that she is willing to forgo the rights and privacy of some citizens over others in the name of profit and desire to know who is an alien and who isn't (which was the writers way of symbolizing the problems in our country as far as our immigration policy, and how this administration is interpreting it) which she stated in her dialogue with Kara the first time it was used.
Oh man oh man oh man I completely forgot she used it on Rhea. My bad. But yeah after that it got scrapped. It might just stay as one of those loose ends that never gets tied up.
When would we have heard more...she used it on Rhea, and then they were fully into making the device that took us into the finale. Sooooooo, when would they have brought it up again?

I agree, they should definitely do something more with Lena. I just don't see a clear mistrust of aliens in her they way you do. But I clearly see a wariness to trust ANYONE, alien or not. I think that's where the drama will unfold.
The only thing that I might would make me think twice about the speculation is why doesn't she use it on new employees, like Samantha....OR Samantha being made in a lab makes her different enough to not go red on the device.
All and all it is ALL speculation on my part. I just don't think they are going to waste Lena on just being Kara's BFF, there is just too much good drama there to use.
Interesting thoughts. But I feel like you're putting a lot of stress on her 'mistrust' of aliens. We haven't really had much proof of her mistrust (have we? did I forget something?), at most IMO she comes across as wary (thus the alien detection device). I guess I'm just trying to figure out why you believe she has such a large distrust of aliens when her interaction with them (that she knows of) has been limited.
If she ever finds out that the President is an alien, and Samantha is an alien, every single time she finds out that someone, especially those closest to her are aliens, that mistrust doesn't lessen, it will go through the roof IMO. AND possibly hit a crescendo when she finds out Kara's secret.
The writers are always the X-factor, the wild card if you will.
Well as I said.....who knows with these crazy writers. I know that in the most recent comics Kara wants to help Psi, not sure her feelings on Reign. ;)
