Wonder why the "electric wand" (or cattle prod) didn't seem to affect Supergirl at all. After all, we know she is vulnerable to high voltage electricity (as personified by Live Wire). But I guess that little contraption (probably just battery-powered) didn't have enough "juice" to bother her....

Loving all these sneak peeks! I'm a bit iffy with #3 though. I like the idea of a darker Kara, but not like this.

What baffles me is that she didn't lose Mon-El (or anyone else for that matter) as Kara DANVERS, she lost everyone as Kara ZOR-EL; so why is she trying to throw away Kara Danvers?

She lost Mon-el as Kara Danvers....and she feels (as she has often felt in the comics) that the human side of her weakens her. She is showing the angst, anger, and aloofness she has often shown in the New 52 issues

How did she lose him as Kara Danvers? She was Kara Zor-El with him, her full self. She didn't have to revert to her Danvers persona around him.

I understand the anger and despair arc they're going for, I just can't see why it's being dropped onto Kara Danvers' shoulders when that 'alter-ego' isn't the one losing loved ones, but Kara Zor-El is.

A mod over at SHH put it this way, and so much better than I ever could as to why Kara is reacting like she is....

Quote:
I think people who are mad about her being "more upset over losing Mon-El than her own planet/culture/family" are totally missing the point - she's this upset over Mon-El because of how she lost her entire planet/culture/family. One of Kara's core characteristics, as we saw in S1, is that she has some very deep-seated issues with abandonment and loss. She had to cope with that at a very young age, and as much as that sunny personality she normally displays is genuine, it's also partially a coping mechanism, a way of compartmentalizing. Seeing the positive and refusing to indulge the negative is how she coped for years, and yes, it's somewhat unhealthy. Which why when the dam breaks with her, it REALLY breaks. Mon-El was just the tipping point to bring all that back up and break the dam, made worse by the fact that it was her own choice this time. So now she's attempting to compartmentalize essentially in the other direction - shut off the "weak" human side. It's not specifically because it's Mon-El that she lost, it's just the latest huge loss to push her over the edge. If she had lost Alex in "Alex," it would almost certainly be even worse.

That may not be this or that person's favorite version of SG, but it certainly isn't something new or out of character for Supergirl. AND BESIDES, we will see that smile once again before the end of this episode I'm sure. Chyler and Melissa slam dunked that scene, beautifully acted....and LOVING seeing "Kick Arse Kara" again.....her easiness of that fight was wonderful to see. The earlier sneak peek (the board room) hopefully within the scope of the entire episode it is much more enjoyable. I'll wait to see that....

This episode is going to make me cry.
I know some people are annoyed that she’s like this over Mon-El, but to be honest I don’t think he’s as big a part of it as you might think. His leaving was the instigator, sure, but it is Kara's guilt that she had to send him away, after promising that they wouldn’t have to use the lead bomb. It would also have brought up the loss of her parents and planet. She also lost a part of Kara Zor-El. She didn’t get to be Kara Zor-El with many people, one of those being Mon-El. At the moment she’s trying to not have to think about whether or not Mon-El is actually alive or if she just sent him away to die alone. It’s heartbreaking and all of this could easily spiral into a depression which I believe she’s in. In bad patches you just try to push everyone away so they can’t break through your walls, so you can’t be helped.

In other words there were other things building up inside Kara and then Mon-El's leaving lit the fuse so to speak?

Well that was intense, this is a different darkness then the season 1 Red Kryptonite dark Supergirl. She's really hurting and I can't wait to see how they pull back to the light.
