Menagerie Synopsis

No new episode of Supergirl this week but as many fans have pointed out, this is obviously a good thing. The Superbowl is this Sunday and because of that, just about every other network is not airing any new content on that day. This mini-hiatus will last until February 17th. Of course, that timing is perfect for a valentines day episode and judging by the synopsis for "Menagerie" Nia and Brainy just might have a love connection coming up! Check out the official synopsis for episode 412 below:

DC COMICS VILLAIN MENAGERIE APPEARS — With his P.I. shingle newly hung outside his office, J’onn (David Harewood) welcomes new clients. Trying to take her mind off what happened at the DEO, Kara (Melissa Benoist) decides to team up with J’onn on his latest assignment, which unfortunately ends up tying directly into Alex’s (Chyler Leigh) current investigation that involves the villain Menagerie (guest star Jessica Meraz). Meanwhile, Lena (Katie McGrath) shares some news with James (Mehcad Brooks), but his reaction isn’t what she expected. Nia (Nicole Maines) invites Brainy (Jesse Rath) to her Valentine’s Day party. Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner and teleplay by Daniel Beaty & Greg Baldwin (#412). Original airdate 2/17/2019.

Sounds good after the last two episodes I could use less emotional intensity, my nerves are frayed. It's in character for Kara to retreat from her emotions when she feels vulnerable so some time with J'onn will help her cope as well as showcase his new job. It's smart to have the case tie into the DEO to provide a bit of Alex mind wipe drama. I guess this means Nia has decided she wants to go out with Brainy. Hopefully she's figures out she has to spell everything out for him. I'll bet Lena tells James about her human trials.

Looks like a fun episode. So we have J'onn running the detective agency and Supergirl/Kara working on a case together. That's two Super Hero's and if you throw in the Dreamer, that's makes Three Super Hero's. They should have no problem solving any case.

Looking forward to Nia and Brainy's budding romance. I think a balance of humor and emotion will make the scene enjoyable.

Curious as to how J'onn and Kara will explain Kara's presence to Alex. And also, how it will play out if there is conflict with Menagerie, which appears to be the case according to the photos. Will Alex go overboard trying to keep Kara out of the way - not knowing of course that she is basically invincible. :D

My assumption is that from Alex’s perspective Kara, as a journalist, is helping J’onn with his latest case which brings them to the same place as Alex.
Yep, I think you're probably correct. It would still be fun watching Kara trying to stay out of the way and not get involved in the fight with Alex right there, fighting Menagerie.

Having Jonn and Kara team up is good...it's sort of a Sam Spade and his secretary Effie Perrine
After viewing Melissa's most recent behind the scenes Instagram post with her and David, Inspector Jacques Clouseau and the Pink Panther are now coming more to my mind :D .

So will it be Kara Danvers or Supergirl teaming up with J'onn? I can see both becoming a problem when their case unfortunately ends up tying directly into Alex's investigation. The promo photos show a certain mild-mannered reporter...

First of all, Happy Early Birthday, Robert! Now this is good news. Working with J’onn and the Valentines Day, away from the gloomy episodes we’ve had. BTW: gloomy doesn’t mean bad.

I hope to be seeing the return of our goofy gal with her references to Seasame Street and other fun things. I can imagine some fun puns and references if Kara is working with J’onn in his capacities as a PI. Bring on the Maltese Falcon and other fun references.

I really believe DEO, at this stage, has outlived its shelf life. Here’s hoping for a good episode.

Also hope we get to see more of John's office, which to me is the best set on the show...period.

Well, that didn't take long....it does seem like J'onn's new PI office digs have the potential for lots of Easter Eggs hidden about.

Looking forward to Nia's Valentine's Day party, as Brainy will probably generally miss the point of such things.

J'onn and Kara teaming up...will this become Supergirl's 'new normal' after getting kicked out of The DEO?

But that happens to be my birthday...number 45 for those who are counting.

Having Jonn and Kara team up is good...it's sort of a Sam Spade and his secretary Effie Perrine ( no relation to Valerie Perrine) team up or even a super-powered Spade and a female P-I Candy Matson...all of whom were from the golden age of radio, which is a hobby of mine. Both detectives were based in San Francisco by the way.

Also hope we get to see more of John's office, which to me is the best set on the show...period.

As for the golden age references, well go to YouTube and type "Sam Spade radio" and or "Candy Matson radio" and you'll see (and hear) what I mean.

Sam Spade's theme song by the way was what he said at the end of every episode to Effie..."Goodnight Sweetheart"...a song done by bandleader Ray Noble in 1931 and sung by Al Bowlly...
