It's been an episode that many have assumed would welcome back Tyler Hoechlin as Superman. Supergirl.tv fans know that is not the case. Today, the CW has released the synopsis for Man of Steel and it's a bit different than everyone thought! The third episode of season four will be a flashback episode that shares with us the origin of Agent Liberty and how he gained his anti-alien sentiment though his life and his father, guest-star Xander Berkeley. The timing of an episode heavy with a new character would align perfectly with the updated filming schedule to accommodate for Melissa on Broadway. This was actually the first episode of season four that was filmed. Read the full synopsis below:

XANDER BERKELEY GUEST STARS IN THE ORIGIN STORY OF AGENT LIBERTY — Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer) didn’t always hate aliens. Through a series of incidents, and input from his anti-alien father (guest star Xander Berkeley), Ben slowly transforms from a mild-mannered professor into the villainous Agent Liberty of today. Jesse Warn directed the episode written by Rob Wright & Derek Simon (#403).

When I look at this character it reminds me of another show "The Man in the Iron Mask". In later pics the character out of uniform doesn't look like there is any facial impairment. Why then the heavy mask? Is there an armament purpose then?

Agent Liberty.

Cause when you think "liberty", you naturally think of a guy in a metal Darth Vader mask.

The bad guys desperately need better publicists and costume designers.

Or at least read the "Evil Overlords List".

I have no interest in watching an entire episode about the villain, a little bit each episode is OK but I watch these shows (Supergirl , The Flash and Arrow) for the titular heroes. This happened on Arrow last Season (6) in Episode 19 which was all about his villain Ricardo Diaz and Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Arrow) was only in the episode for 1 minute (1 scene towards the end of the episode). If I had of known that prior to viewing I wouldn't have watched.

So on this occasion I'll read about the episode before viewing and if Melissa isn't in it then there's no reason for me to watch.

I respect Melissa was on Broadway which was awesome and a dream for her but I sort of wish they didn't start filming Supergirl S4 until she got back and maybe then had a later start to the season (say October 28 or November 4) so as to avoid episodes (which could possibly be the case with # 4 as well) with the potential of little or no Melissa in them.

To clarify, we didn't say that Melissa isn't in this episode. Its just that the focus will likely be on Agent Liberty.

Should be a more nuanced, character-driven episode that will likely flesh out the main antagonist of Season Four and his motivations. Noticed that Jesse Warn is back in the director's chair; he also directed this Sunday's S4 premiere.

Very good to know. Should be an interesting backstory and will shed light on the character's progression/descent. Looking forward to seeing how it is played and portrayed.
