In a pretty big twist from traditional Arrowverse shows, the BIG BAD was more or less finally revealed tonight! Selena and her followers have decided to take Earth for themselves. Their powers on the planet will make them unstoppable and just as General Zod said in Man of Steel, "The foundation must be built upon something", which does note bode well for humanity! With Mon-El and Kara trapped on Argo, a race to figure out how to get back-up to Earth begins! Check out the trailer for next week's penultimate episode below:

Well, of course, Ruby has Kryptonian genes, too, so she may also have some of that "super-intellect".
But I was thinking more in the direction of how the original teenage Snapper Carr character sometimes cracked the Justice League's cases simply because he was "hip" (I know, dated slang..) to new trends and pop-culture happenings that the older Justice League members were unfamiliar with. It wasn't that Snapper was "smarter" than J'onn, Clark, Barry Allen, or Diana Prince. He just had more knowledge of those things that were common and everyday to 60s and 70s teenagers than the DC superheroes ever did.
For instance, in the very first Justice League comic book, Snapper happened to be spreading lime on the lawn at his home. And it later turned out that lime was in fact the villain's "Achilles heel"!

Being surprised that Lena could figure out the operation of the Leagues ship demonstrates more his 9th level arrogance than a comparison of intellect.

I too would like to see Ruby's story develop but not in the direction of the Supergirl/Ruby intellectual relationship mirroring that of Inspector Gadget/Penny. Remember Kara's Kryptonian intellect is supposed to be one of her powers.

Also, action and special effects are expensive in live action. So I think no show will ever feature that amount of action you dream of. I think the producers have talked about this before that they often save up money during the season so they can blow it all on the finale (which I'm guessing will kick off next episode).
And I still don't think that what we saw in last episode comes even close to episodes where Kara isn't on at all. Kara was still there, on her journey, Alex and so on were just the filler to me, which is precisely why I dread the thought of the season starting out with episodes where that is the status quo and Kara is completely sidelined, rather than Kara having a major character beats as they work up to the finale. I for one like seeing different aspects of heroism. So to me the episode before that where Kara stands in front of the council and makes her case for why they should give up the rock was a real treat. I really enjoy those more scifi aspects of Supergirl.
The episode where Kara dreams of being on Krypton (s1) or where Kara is in a coma talking to Brainy to me were also more character pieces than action pieces, but that doesn't make them bad episodes to me.
As for the robot incident, I don't recall it as any kind of sustained flight which we used to see but don't anymore. Again you can call me unsophisticated and simplistic but I don't like seeing one episode after another in which the title character rarely or never uses her powers.
I understand the point that you want to show that Kara can be a hero even if she doesn't have her powers. That point has been amply demonstrated in previouslyand to me it was enough to see a few such episodes such as "Human for a Day" and "Duet". Those were fine but I don't want to keep seeing this "genre".
Not to mention that the episode started out with Supergirl heroically saving Sam from Reign.
It's really beyond me how anybody can consider those episodes to not have any Melissa, when those were prime character development episodes. Just because she spent her screentime elsewhere doesn't mean that she didn't have screentime. Which to me is very different from her actually not having screentime (as opposed to screentime which people elect to ignore for some reason?) which would be the case if it happens like some speculate.
IMO those episodes reminded me quite a lot about Supergirl 52, the arc where Kara is given the chance to restore Krypton. It's about temptation. Kara being shown a normal life by her definition and choosing heroism over it. A very traditional moment in the story of most heroes. The Supergirl comics also had arcs where Supergirl was away from earth and saving people there.IMO it's even fun to see her in new situations.
Sadly we're already getting plots like "Guardian and Alex (and J'onn) protect the city". We see less and less and less of Supergirl using her powers. Near the top of this website it says "Supergirl flies in...". But when did we last see her fly? Not the last episode or I recall in the episode before that. I feel we're already getting episodes without Melissa. We don't have to wait until season 4 for that.
I watch this program out of my longtime interest in the Supergirl character. It's disappointing to see so little of her in action lately. An episode without sUpergirl in action is to say the least not very entertaining.
Just sit back chill and enjoy the fact that we have a 4th season of Supergirl and that Melissa is living a dream.
