Good Friday Afternoon Supergirl fans! Today we have a treat for you to enjoy as you go into your weekend! New images from Supergirl's fourteenth episode this season, Magical Thinking! One thing we've noticed about Supergirl this season is that the show is paying special attention to it's new place being on Earth Prime and working with other heroes. We had a quote from Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning, we've had Diggle visit, and we've had references to Superman. Furthering that Arrowverse feel is the totems that need to be hunted down. They seem very similar to the paragon's from Crisis on Infinite Earths. Did you catch their names in the images below?

Nice set of pics for an episode that should turn out to be quite action-packed, since it's directed by series stunt coordinator Simon Burnett.

Yes - I was thinking the same thing about the totems and that it would provide the foundation for an episode based on SuperGirl's courage (especially since Kara told Alex how afraid she was in the PZ and had doubts whether the fear would go away. - and I am also disappointed that it doesn't seem like that scenario will take place.

I did not mind that the Mxy episode leaned a bit more on the funny side as Mxy is an inherently funny character. And I wanted to be happy for Supergirl that it is getting trailers again, but I won't lie that trailer is the first time my heart sank and actually made me less excited for an episode. Don't get me wrong, after serious! political! message! of the last episode I didn't want another political episode. But another funny episode so soon? And then the summary for the next episodes reveals that Supergirl feels she has no reason to take Nyxly seriously for 2 more episodes? And the thing that make her take it seriously is to threaten a relatively unimportant character rather than somebody from Kara's direct family?

Very disappointing. Especially compared to some of the things that Melissa talked about in regards to quality Alex and Kara scenes and Supergirl doing serious soul searching about her role as a hero.

As I said, I will reserve some judgement particularly in regards how the test of courage plays out. I hope that it is meatier than the silly themed promo led one to believe.

"You set an interesting scenario for a Midvale show - let's keep our fingers crossed that it will happen. If I remember correctly Stewart, you write Supergirl Fanfiction - I would be interested in reading your stories - is there a link to your stories in the forum?"

Oh, I've been posting my fanfiction stories on my own Facebook page since the summer after Season 1. And then, I've been posting links to them in the Forum section here. In fact, there are several on the first two pages of the Forum right now!
But my stories have developed differently than the TV show has. I started out with the idea of writing "day in the life" stories, having Kara and her Superfriends (supporting cast) in everyday situations doing everyday things. In my stories, Alex is still the director of the DEO, and Winn is still there, too. I also added several original characters of my own to the Superfriends. But Kara is the only one who has superpowers. (Brainy is just a benevolent alien with a "supergenius" intellect, like Star Trek's Mr. Spock.) I've been having Kara working closely with the National City Police Dept., fighting everyday criminals and the cartels, too. (She has a "special contact" there, like Commissioner Gordon in the Batman comics.) And I've also delved into Kara's hobbies and outside interests (which the TV show has never really done). The classic drawing of Supergirl's apartment shows her easel and paints and a guitar. So I've had Kara painting (and exhibiting her work), and have also made her into an accomplished amateur guitarist, who often "guest stars" with a local band. I also imagined that Kara and Alex would have an interest in the local sports teams, and would attend their games. So I've had Kara become friends with members of the highly-rated National City Sharks, an NWSL women's soccer/football team.
+1 #12 Science teachers crowd source?! This show must attract science teachers :-) As one myself I agree ... the high school premise would be awesome ... The Midvale episodes were my two favorite this season so far!scforbes8489 2021-09-26 07:04

Yes, indeed! WOw - I'd love to write for that show :-)

Being a high-school science teacher myself, I'm sure I could easily come up with some semi-realistic situations. I'd expect it to be something like the old Superboy comics - except that Kara has a sister, who knows all about her powers. But maybe there could be a character similar to Pete Ross in the Superboy comics. Maybe a teacher (preferably a science teacher :) , who accidentally discovers Kara's superpowers. ( He "catches her in the act" of "being super", as Pete Ross did with Clark). But like Pete, he keeps this knowledge to himself for a long time. So whenever Kara suddenly asks to be dismissed from class for some ridiculous reason, this particular teacher has no problem at all with her request, and immediately lets her go off and "be super"'!

I was hoping Nyxly, a character from the Phantom Zone with immeasurable powers would be used to explore the trauma Kara experienced there, so I'm quite disheartened that so far it looks like Nyxly is being played for laughs rather than the totems with their ideas of courage and hope being used to really dive deep into the character of Supergirl. Maybe I'm wrong and the episodes will play out very differently when they actually air, so I will reserve final judgement on how the totems are handled till I actually see it and not just base it on a promo.

I thought the actress for Maggie Sawyer was more attractive and had more sexy chemistry with Chyler, but as a character? Maggie Sawyer seemed pretty flighty, having a history of cheating, quickly abandoning the other woman she was seeing for Alex after first shooting Alex down and being willing to use questionable means even though she was a policewoman.

From a pure relationship point of view, I think it makes a lot of sense that somebody like Kelly would be more suitable to settle down and raise a child with. Maggie overall didn't seem like a very dependable person.

I doubt that they are genuinely planning a spin-off with either Alex & Kelly or Dreamer, but I wonder whether they might be used in Arrowverse crossovers the way Diggle is. I do find it worrying that so far no Alex and Kara solo story seems to be manifesting itself unless it will be mostly about Alex's adoption (I think everybody knows which storyline I would have cancelled for that, hint, it's the repetitive one about witches for a character who already has multiple storylines). It's quite saddening since the writers always talk about how Alex and Kara is their favorite relationship and they wrote everybody's favorite episode back in season 1, Falling.

"Looks like these ending episodes will lay the foundation for other possible shows involving these characters - however; the show I would love to see more than any other would be the Midvale one where Alex and Kara are growing up and we get to see their adventures - that show would really be a hit (as long as they don't let the SG writers get their hands on any of the scripts)."
