Hoechlin & Routh to be Superman in COIE

We already saw John Wesley Shipp put on his 1990's Flash costume and reprise his role as Barry Allen on last year's Elseworlds crossover event. We even saw some familiar costumes from Smallville and other shows that preceded the Arrowverse. Well today, Deadline.com is reporting that Crisis on Infinite Earths will once again dive into the history of DC and ask a familar face to suit up as Superman! Of course Supergirl fans know that the Arrowverse's Superman is played by Tyler Hoechlin! His reviews have been incredibly well received as his portrayal of the Man of Steel likened much to the Christopher Reeve's version. However, he won't be the only Man of Steel. Brandon Routh, who is currently Ray Palmer on Legends of Tomorrow also played the roll in the 2006 movie, Superman Returns. According to Deadline.com, his version of Superman will make an appearance in the mega-crossover event as well!

What do you think of the multi-superman idea? Could we see other Karas? Other Arrows? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and in the forum! Keep us advertisement free and visit the support page!

The same as Burt Ward will guest star on Crisis (not sure what role though).

Definitely cool news to hear about Burt Ward being in CoIE, I'm only expecting it to be a short cameo maybe something like William Katt (The Greatest American Hero) had in the Crisis on Earth X crossover as the minister of Barry and Iris's wedding. It will be cool all the same to see Burt.

It would be very cool to see Helen come in as (mature) Supergirl from another Earth. They gotta have Melissa's Kara mention it's very weird to see Eliza as Supergirl. LOL

This is mega-cool news. I did really like Brandon's Superman and totally awesome for him to get another chance to play the character again.

Quoting Redbasil:
And Helen' s movie also being in the same universe will she feature as supergirl in some way

Helen playing Supergirl (or maybe it should be Superwoman now) in CoIE would be the best news ever, you wouldn't wipe the smile of my face for days if that was announced. Can you imagine how amazing it would be if Helen and Melissa could share scenes playing alternative earth versions of Supergirl.

Just recently Helen was asked about playing Supergirl again, listen to her response at 09:45 of the attached video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOaLi5BlQ44 .

I am so glad they got comics writer Jay Faerber for Supergirl and now we know Kara will be one of those who will be in all 5 parts of the Crisis crossover. I expect both Oliver and Barry to the others to appear in all 5 parts as well as Batwoman and maybe perhaps Ray, Sara, and Heatwave.

Can you imagine Brandon Routh wearing Henry Cavill's MoS suit? The reason I came up with this is because the MoS suit's symbol was based on Earth-2 Superman's.

Jay Faerber (New Supergirl writer for Season 5) made this tweet (https://twitter.com/JayFaerber/status/1152250353640857601) about the Tyler and Brandon news:

"This is really happening and I couldn’t be more giddy!

And Supergirl fans — don’t worry, there’s incredible stuff for Kara in this crossover, too. She’s pivotal to all 5 episodes."

Exciting, I'll look forward to what's in store for Kara during CoIE.

This may explain the need (story-wise) for Supergirl's suit change. The old Supergirl that we knew in S1 to S4 on Earth 38 will die out and will be replaced by the newer Earth 1 version.

IMHO if the main plot of this year is the fight for Lena's soul, then I doubt if SuperGirl and characters from S1 to S4 will die out or change in character. ...not if Lena and her technology is the main theme for this season as the relationships would have to stay the same to have a story.

The show, the associated decisions within it, the continual tinkering and end product tend to do that to people. Expectations get raised, then dashed, raised and then dashed again. Repeatedly.

As you said, it's best to take a wait and see approach. It might work, and then again, it might turn out to be a flop. I dunno if you'd wish to sanely and realistically place wagers which way things will go.

Unless this is Chyler's Las season, I do not see them killing off Earth 38 Kara. That relationship is far to important to this series. But I think the smart thing to do is not to speculate too much, sometimes you speculate too much and you end up going into the season with a negative bias rather than waiting to see what happens and take it as it comes. Some have already biased their outlook on this next season, and in the end they may have already set themselves up for a fall. I have to say not real thrilled with yet another Superhero in the crossover, but I'm looking forward to the episodes leading up to it, and I'll take a wait and see on the crossover.

Should be very interesting to see. This, I presume, is when all of the universes will collide and each separate version either changes or dies out.

This may explain the need (story-wise) for Supergirl's suit change. The old Supergirl that we knew in S1 to S4 on Earth 38 will die out and will be replaced by the newer Earth 1 version.
So, what would this mean for the relationship of the current Kara and Alex? How would they tie in a new Supergirl version with the memories of the other one? Would a new Kara have the same relationship with Alex if that relationship never existed in the first place?

*****

Hey, the writers have done far more cringeworthy things over the past 4 seasons, and as with the previous crossovers and their massive flaws, anything's possible.

If they could do the mind-wipe thing with Alex in S4 and get away with it, they can certainly do something similar across the board with CoIE. Admittedly, it wouldn't make sense within the Supergirl or other shows individually, but at this point, nothing makes cohesive storytelling sense. This is what happens when you put everything into a blender and see what the end result is.

Mind you, everything's speculation until it's shown on screen. Then we'll know the aftermath and possible directions said shows may go in.

This has me very excited, and encourages me that they may at least somewhat stick to the source material, which featured a 2nd, older Superman from another earth.
