World's Finest

Caroline Dries, the fabulous creative force behind Batwoman and TVD has an interview with comicbook.com that posted yesterday (5/11). She hopes they can do the World's Finest crossover with Supergirl next season. She very purposely chose kryptonite as a bat suit vulnerability (revealed in its penultimate episode) to further build on the Kate/Kara relationship.

While reports say the injury is not related to her decision, I have to question the total accuracy of that... certainly returning to work immediately after back surgery had to make the long hours on set even more difficult than they would have otherwise been.

I assume the producers must have had a replacement in mind before they decided to let Ruby out of her contract.

Alrhough I will miss Rose, I personally thought Caroline Dries did a fantastic job with year one and trust season two will stand up to the quality of season one.

Interesting. Let's see how this will play out if/when scheduling and filming get back on track.

I am hoping the Batwoman and Superman & Lois crossover is not World's Finest. If they do it with Superman instead of Supergirl, Bleeding Cool is reporting exactly that... That would be unforgivable.

The only thing that can penetrate the Batsuit is kryptonite? I don't follow Batwoman anymore, so I missed that reveal. That's... an incredibly contrived coincidence. :D

I like Ruby Rose and think she's a decent actress but not a great fit for the role. She was a trooper, however. A real badass in the face of adversity. Good luck to her.

I don't envy the gal they end up casting. Hope she's given a fair shake.

Caroline Dries specific chose kryptonite and the mineral/substance that could penatrate the batsuit in furthering Kate's connection to Kara in preparation for World's Finest that she was hoping would take place next season. She had also planned to work more Kara references and a possible cameo of sorts into the Batwoman Finale that didn't happen or so I understood.

I understand the "meta" reasons for it.

In universe, it seems really flimsy to me. Kind of like writing blue sun radiation as exclusively harming male characters to force a "girl power" team to Fort Rozz.

On the matter of Ruby Rose leaving Batwoman; it seems to remind me of a show on the polar opposite of BW...Namely SHAZAM! the 1974-76 CBS Saturday morning TV show from Filmation. During the show's run, two men played "The Big Red Cheese; Jackson Bostwick and John Davey.

Midway through filming of the show, Jackson, who did some of his own stunts, was seriously injured doing one of them. As a result he was fired from the show two episodes into the second season and replaced by Davey. According to his official website, he failed to show up for a shooting and producers thought he was holding out for more salary. The truth was, he sustained an injury at the previous day's shooting and was getting treatment. Jackson sued Filmation and won. The company had to pay him for the remainder of his contract, which included the remaining episodes of the second and last season.

Always a possibility, but I took a gig in September of last year that looked great on paper, but it turned out to be a poor fit. I left six months later, wishing the place well.

Sometimes, it just happens. No one's at fault; there's no shame in it.

Whatever the reason, both parties seem to be handling it professionally and with class. It speaks highly of them.

Yes, it was mutual decision for Kate to leave and wish her the best.

I trust Caroline Dries and her team to pick a solid replacement.

Per EW Kate Kane will not be recast but the Batwoman identity will be taken by a new character Ryan Wilder. Kara’s relationship with Kate is not a consideration anymore.

I am hoping that isn't true as Kate Kane is the common thread that connects everything on Batwoman. Hopefully, we get official news soon.

I don't like it either but the source is Entertainment Weekly which is considered reliable. It's interesting that only EW and The Hollywood Reporter are saying this. We'll see, I'm sure the admins are on it and will update Batwoman.TV once their sources confirm.

Damn,I'm just finding out about this now after watching Stargirl and the Legends finale.I'm not thrilled with this.Normally I don't mind legacy heroes(new people taking over a superhero role) but for me,that only works when there has been a legacy.I'll give this a shot ofcourse but I can't lie and say that I'm not disappointed by this.

Besides the fact we will lose the Kate and Kara friendship and dynamic, and that doesn't mean a new and different dynamic can't form between Supergirl and the new Batwoman, this just feels so off to me.

I'm sure there some now who won't even care about seeing Supergirl and Batwoman interacting again if it's not Melissa and Ruby and now not even Kara and Kate.

They just set up that major kryptonite plotline connecting Batwoman and Supergirl,we know they wanted to do a Supergirl/Batwoman crossover with Kara and Kate but COVID-19 messed that up and Melissa's maternity leave led to the Batwoman/Superman & Lois crossover next year.

But the whole setup of the Batwoman show feels so dependent on Kate Kane as Batwoman.Alice,Jacob,Mary…..does these characters even fit well now if it's a new person under the cowl? The stuff with Kate and Alice and Kate and Jacob is the backbone of the Batwoman comics which the show used at a setup for this series.Hopfully they come up with something with this new character that works with the other main characters.

I really now am curious about the original ending to season 1 of Batwoman when they would of had Ruby for a few more episodes.

Also doing the crossover between Batwoman and Superman & Lois makes even more sense now since in some ways Batwoman will be a new show too.Superman & Lois is a new series while Batwoman will have a new lead character.

Comicbook.com suggested it may have been an intentional misdirect for actresses to think they were casting a new character so they wouldn't attempt to mimic Rose's take on Batwoman. I understand the casting call was removed. A new character would totally disrupt the show.

TV Line has put up a article about the negatives of replacing Kate Kane as Batwoman.

https://tvline.com/2020/06/03/batwoman-season-2-kate-kane-gone-new-character-added/

Here's the Supergirt factor they bring up.

SUPERGIRL | Showrunner Caroline Dries had already told TVLine there was no plan for Kate and Kara (played by Melissa Benoist) to reunite on-screen over the aforementioned kryptonite issue. But having a brand-new person inside Batwoman’s cowl and cape will eventually lessen the impact of any next Arrowverse crossover (such as this one) involving the Scarlet Knight.
