Guy is interested in Kara, guy declares intention, Kara does not reciprocate, awkwardness for a few episodes, friends again but distanced.

Nothing wrong with writing Kara to have free will and reject all who comes, but going along this route twice gets weird in a fiction story. You guys reckon Mon-El is going to end up different to Winn?

I just catch a hint or two that Mon El will not go the way of Winn, Adam and James. (That line is getting silly long) They are telling a larger story with him, way more pieces parts to it. They will not want to tie Supergirl to a longstanding relationship because she is the titular character. Hampers too many story possibilities. Can't change the name of the series to Supergirl and Mon El.

I predict he will weave in and out of the story as the series continues. He won't be a constant but he won't disappear completely. That would play to great effect. They could stretch the will they/ or won't they out for a long time that way. Chris Wood may move to recurring character status after this season.

Then again, could be a tragic end for old Mon El in the offing too, you know, Romeo and Juliet and all. I just can't imagine him sucking up so much screen time as the series goes on. To me he's stepping all over the true hero's story.

My prediction...Alex will have the stable love relationship and Kara's many will be played for great pathos.

Did ya miss the kiss between Mon-El and Kara.....TOTALLY different from Winn's try at the lip lock.

I'm actually more concerned how devastating it will be for Kara IF she got involved and there is a big loss for her of some kind. She's lost so much in her young life already. How wlll another tragedy affect her? In a way, a tragedy will happen at some point in the series for the Hero. Will it be Mon el, or will it be something, or someone else?

Yes, that’s certainly an interesting question, Ink Slinger, because as you pointed out it’s inevitable that it will happen at some point. So how much tragedy can someone take before it just breaks them and if/how do they recover? And if it doesn’t break them, in what fundamental ways does it affect them because surely it must, even someone like Kara who strives so hard to embrace the good in life, even in the face of tragedy ( arguably, she strives to embrace life because she experienced such intense tragedy when she was young)

I feel like maybe I should start a different topic for this, but... with more and more characters throwing themselves into the deadly fray alongside Supergirl, it does seem inevitable that someone important to Kara is going to meet their sudden death, and if so, does that affect Kara’s willingness to work with a team? Kara has basically told Winn and James that she won’t work with them because in her opinion what they are doing is reckless and will get them killed. So if one of them then does eat it as a result of their recklessness, does Kara feel guilty for not helping or for not trying hard enough to stop them (or neither)?

But I digress....As far as that death being Mon-El's applies to Fedguy’s original question about Kara’s possible future with him:

As of right now, I’m reluctant to believe the ultimate outcome will be the writers killing Mon-El off because (IMO) it’s a weird narrative choice considering all the effort they’ve put into introducing and developing his character this season and also after having started this “will-they-won’t-they” dance between Kara and Mon-El.

Usually shows kill off characters because it (arguably) has some larger impact on the remaining characters and propels the story line forward, increases the stakes of the plot (or sometimes even for behind the scenes/production reasons). But killing Mon-El off now? While he’s recently become part of #TeamSupergirl, aside from Kara I don’t see anyone else being too busted up about his death because they just don’t know him that well. That’s why I think it would be a weird writing choice and therefore IMO unlikely.

Granted no character on the show is ever 100% safe, and these writers have shown they are not above killing a story line dead in its track if they don’t think it’s working, so....I guess we'll see.

If the writers put them together, I hope if won't be for a long time where their relationship strengthens, grows and is challenged and grows again. Until he's her equal. At the end of the Series preferably.

Hehe :D oh jeez, I hope they don't wait to the end of the series to get them together if the show does plan to pair them up. That's a much, much too slow burn for my tastes! ;-)

But, yes, I agree if the show puts them together romantically, I would prefer that Mon-El has grown into someone who you can see as Kara's equal, or as close as he can get ;-). Because IMO it's hard to find a superhero let alone a squishy earthling with a bigger heart, or more indomitable soul than Kara Zor-El.

During and after that conversation at the end of episode 10, Kara didn't seem excited, or confused, or worried. She seemed troubled to me. She was better when she thought Mon-El had no feelings for her.

It was clear to me and probably everyone else that he left the cops to come to her aid because he cares for her. Could she really be that clueless not to know he had feelings for her?

Speaking of those cops, why didn't they get out of the way so that the suoerpowered people could work unencumbered?

I think Kara feels for Mon-El far more than she was letting on. I have a feeling this is setting up to be a HUGE what the heck moment for Kara when she finds out who she is, whether he's a Prince, villain, whatever. That is going to be some major, WOW DRAMA....can't wait.

I don't see the parallel with Winn at all.

The Shakespearean comparisons were very, very loose and only if they were in their respective worlds. That was quite the essay and again I enjoyed reading it. I actually don't mind if Kara never gets paired off until the very end of the Series, and if Mon el is around then, great, because chemistry wise, he has certainly been the best so far.

I think Kara will eventually reciprocate. And while I look forward to that playing out, I will say though, that for me, as a viewer and even as a fan of their pairing, I'm okay if she doesn't. To be clear, I really like the potential of their romantic pairing, but they're also really good platonic partners. They're banter is lively and entertaining, and they make good foils for each other, so the romantic angle, in my opinion, is a most welcomed bonus.

I'd like to point out, though, a big difference between Mon-El and Winn's reactions. Winn was very upset when Kara didn't reciprocate his feelings for her and cut her out of his life for some time because of it. Mon-El, on the other hand, didn't do that. Mon-El while also upsets, gets that Kara may not feel the same (and really, I don't think Kara knows how she feels either. Girl hasn't even had time to process it all yet), and he doesn't make Kara reciprocating his feelings an ultimatum of sorts on their continued friendship. And that to me is a big difference between Winn and Mon-El.

I thought it was kinda sweet that even though Mon-El thinks Kara doesn't care for him romantically, Kara's important enough to Mon-El that he just wants to be part of her life in any way. I guess I'm a softie, but I thought that says a lot of just how much Mon-El feels for Kara and I liked that he gave her that out.

It'll be interesting to see how Kara feels about it all. Mon-El is certainly not the straight laced type, and he definitely challenges Kara in many ways (frustratingly so for her, at times). In fact, they challenge each other, which I think can be a good thing. But at the same time what makes them good partners, in my opinion, is that those opposing points of view can complement each other. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out. Hopefully, no matter what, the show keeps Mon-El around. At the very least he certainly keeps Kara on her toes :D

As for the Shakespearean comparisons, I see it but in my opinion it's not quite the same. For Romeo and Juliet the problem was outside forces - the families fighting against their union - not Romeo and Juliet fighting each other. In contrast, on this show, while Kara and Mon-El came from warring planets, it was a war fought and ended long before either were born and their story seems to be more about them as individuals overcoming their personal hang-ups and prejudices (behaviors that are partly a result of their planets historic rivalry) and building a friendship and perhaps a romantic relationship despite their differing cultural histories.

The way I think of it is that Kara and Mon-El came from planets with diametrically opposed value systems. Krypton's culture seemed to be egalitarian, concerned with justice, democracy, etc., and Daxam was based more on a feudal system that benefited a chosen few, and was more about self-interests, hedonism, and whatnot. It seems to me that now on Earth, Kara and Mon-El are literally in place where you can choose to be either - someone who only lives for personal pleasure, or an altruistic hero (or neither!). Earth provides them a blank slate. Kara knows who she wants to be now and the values she wants to embrace - heroism, truth, justice. etc. and has a sense of the road she wants to travel. It's now Mon-El's turn to decide who and what he'll be on this planet - what road he wants to travel. And I think the choices he now makes - does he default to the hedonist behavior, or truly embrace more altruistic values - will have a big impact on whether Kara and he can build a romantic relationship if not just a genuine and lasting friendship.

I think Mon-El is truly trying to embrace better values - we've seen evidence of it over several episodes - and not just because he likes Kara. Her influence on him is clear, she has inspired him, but there had to be a better nature within him to begin with for her to have any influence at all. I'm remaining optimistic. What can I say, I'm rooting for these two crazy kids to work it out and get together. :)

Kara has feelings for him for sure, but she's not very experiences in the 'mating' department :D

I think trust is going to be a big issue with Kara and now with both her friends breaking that trust too, Kara is emotionally all over the place right now, Imagine what's going to happen when she finds out he is the Frat boy Prince of Daxam!!! (Just guessing of course)

Also, I LOVE the slow burn for this pairing. Will they, won't they is usually a good ploy for a main coupling in a tv show.

That said, I'm really quite nervous of where this will ultimately go, if Kara allows herself to fall in love deeply and? Their relationship from the start has had a Romeo and Juliet feel to it. You know, the boy from Daxam and the girl from Krypton. Capulets and Montagues. Considering how Romeo died, and Mon-el's lead problem? Ughh. That would be tragic. I really hope that's not the case, but I'm scared! I love Mon el with Kara, and I think his willingness to remain at her side fighting, knowing (he thinks) that she doesn't feel the same, is really touching and makes me really root for him.

Fingers crossed not like Romeo & Juliet lol

Kara will reciprocate, she just isn't quite ready to admit to herself that she is attracted to him.
