I've gone thru my whole adult life pretty much never coming close to falling in love with a celebrity but i'm absolutely obsessed with her.

Well I guess I am the young man here at 43. The first time I kind of liked Melissa was during a 2013 interview she did with Craig Ferguson. And it was her laugh that drew me in. Her bubbly personality, her "adorkability" if you will; singing notwithstanding. Her laugh can range from a nervous chuckle, to a confident cackle, or even a happy ha ha.

But her high point was when on MTV she showed how much she really loves puppies (you see her with them sometimes on her social media) by trying to answer Supergirl questions, while being distracted by puppies. The instant she had that nervous giggle saying "Let's do this; I don't think it's gonna work", this was going to become about 60 seconds of pure joy. She LOST IT with all those pups. Her laugh should be bottled up and used for medicine!!!!

And in a couple of moments of cute, halfway through the questions she picks up and cuddles one of the puppies...NOT REALIZING IT'S A PUPPY IN A SUPERGIRL UNIFORM!

Then when the 60 seconds was nearing its end she was asked how many puppies could Supergirl hold while flying. She said all of them. But she took 4 pups that were there with her and cuddled them (AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!). One big puppy playing with other puppies.

Near the end she takes a couple of them from the NYC studio and then melts "Oh my gosh they're so cute!"

Last year she appeared with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show and showed more of her laughs, as well as the fine art of cup stacking.

But...one of the show's segments is Pup Quiz where if you answer animal trivia questions, you win a puppy (golden retriever). If she goes back on that show and does Pup Quiz, it could become the cutest moment in TV. She would LOSE IT over those puppies.

I never had any previous knowledge of or interest in Supergirl, and discovered it midway through season 1 purely by chance. It's an amazing cast and a great story, but it was Melissa's portrayal that hooked me and she remains the principal reason why I watch. It's exciting to see such an extraordinary talent emerge. Yeah, at 67 I've become a fanboy!

Superbill, I too am 67: 1950 was clearly an exceptional year!

I have tried to analyse why I too have become a fanboy so late in life. I am not an avid tv watcher, nor a superhero fan. I think there are 3 reasons (looks, role and talent).

First, of course MB is clearly a beautiful woman. But that is true of almost any female on TV. To me, MB looks seem more natural than many of her contempories. I think someone (?Kelly) compared her to Grace Kelly, and I would add (showing my age) Joan Fontaine. It is, though, much more than just looks: the smile is heartwarming!

Second, we are watching her play a supreme character. I assume we are all fans of Supergirl’s backstory, and of her incredible moral, emotional and physical strengths. It is easy to admire her as a person as we watch her development.

Third, MB’s portrayal of Supergirl and Kara is a pleasure to watch. She has the differences between them absolutely nailed, and she can make me giggle and sniffle in the same minute. She has managed well with some of the shakier scripts, but has been superb when she has had good material. She is clearly a talented actress with a burgeoning career, and seems to care more about that than the trappings of celebrity.

To be clear though, I am in love and infatuated with, not Melissa, but my wife of 46 years!!!

You are absolutely correct, Jtardy!

"She is clearly a talented actress with a burgeoning career, and seems to care more about that than the trappings of celebrity."

Yes! Her acting skill combined with her singing ability makes her a Streisand-level talent, IMO. But much of what I've read has also emphasized how well grounded she is.

"To be clear though, I am in love and infatuated with, not Melissa, but my wife of 46 years!!!"

Now that is inspiring! Congratulations.

in so many areas she just has this sweetness like I've never seen before, I think she may actually be an alien.

That's a great point about her interactions with puppies, RobertAnthony. The scenes you reference are hilarious. She recently posted another puppy picture on her Instagram account; check it out if you haven't already - it's priceless! Her love of dogs exceeds my own, which is saying something!
