What do you guys think?

And if this his already been discussed and buried in threads, I apologize. I haven't really had time to read a lot of threads in the recent past as our neighborhood has only just now recovered from the effects of Irma. Yeah, there's debris still waiting to be picked up.

No disrespect to fans of the guy who reviews Supergirl on IGN, but I LMAO at his grade for Midvale. It was such a terrific and fun episode and screamed 'Spin Off' to not just many fans, and some reviewers too. The response to the two young Actors have been overwhelmingly positive.

I'd be all for this Spin Off. TBH, When it was time to return to the present, I was kinda mourning the loss of young Kara and Alex. I could totally watch a Spin off dating back to the minute young Kara landed. That way, we'd get Kenny right of the bat. I really liked his character. I think Kenny would be terrific in a young series about high school. Only they'd have get rid of the cliche and OTT jock stuff. It could be like another Riverdale but with a Kryptonian. I honestly think the CW youth market would watch this, as SG is, according to my much more knowledgeable young members of the family, SG cast are old folks. LOL.

As for Legions of Superhero. Other than the fact that there are always talk of over saturation, I think it would work. DC comics are always monetizing their properties in various and endless incarnations. Why not a live tv series too. Again, it would be aimed at a younger demo and general comic book fans.

They already have cast the team, so I'm partially convinced that this is a back door Pilot and they are just waiting for the reaction.

I personally would watch Legions. I love Chris Wood and he has all the qualities of a Lead Actor. If Legions does happen, I just want it to be produced by some fresh blood with a different vision.

So what do you guys think. Either, Or, or Both?

I'd watch both, but if I had to choose one or the other I'd go with a legion spinoff.

The midvale episode reminded me a lot of the early seasons of Smallville. So I kinda feel like I would know what to expect with a Midvale-style series.

I would watch both for sure, but if I had a choice whether to make them or not TBH I would choose not to because of all the shows and the budget each one will be less quality and because of all of the rush and business the episodes would be less creative and they would be rushed. I just don't think it would be the best idea for the CW. I mean just look at Legends, they added that one in and it has a low budget, low rating, and lack of creativity. Lately they have just been using the same villains and predicaments. I like Legends, don't get me wrong, but it does make sense. But if they did do it I would 100% watch it. Especially the Legion.

As it stands, I'd opt for neither but not for the reasons you might think.

1) The Midvale flashback episode was very good but it should not become a full-fledged spin-off series until Supergirl itself has had its full run. This may be a few years away still. It'd be like having Smallville all over again and it has already been done enough.

In my modest view, let the dust settle on the Supergirl series first, then consider spin-offs. Otherwise, you risk pulling a Star Trek type burnout (ST: TNG, then DS9, then Voyager, then ST: Enterprise, then the so-so film reboots and now Star Trek: Discovery - all in relatively quick succession).

2) As for The Legion of Superheroes, that would be a stretch of the imagination and it is definitely too early to tell if/how well the premise would be received. Let's all take a deep breath and let the chips fall before making any predictions/speculation or wishful thinking projections.

Don't misunderstand me. The idea of a spin-off of either Supergirl (The Midvale Years) or The Legion of Superheroes might work and be well-received, but it is way too early to venture into that territory yet.

Legion show could be interesting, they already have a lot of members...could be like another ensemble show like Legends, but set on another earth's future.

I am not that taken by tapestry shows with walls of characters. I would prefer both, but will settle for Midvale. Also, Midvale hits the audience that Supergirl originally targeted.

As a practical matter the special effects and creative work needed for Legion would be way above the Midvale cost. Young Kara actually made considerable use of different superpowers -- super vision, superstrength, indestructibility, flight, table ripping, rope climb -- but those appeared to be limited CGI. the super vision was perhaps a filter on the photographed image, superstrength was the football player actor doing what was needed, the table rip was perhaps a perforated paper table, the climb on the rope was likely a greened-out support rig, to keep the insurance people from having coronaries... The first flight off the bridge was a hoist. There were two particularly neat bits in the flight. One was the first-person view where you do not see her, only the ground underneath, which could have been a drone. The other neat bit was that you see her do a banking turn, which I do not remember from Older Supergirl. You do not see her ram the wall, only climb through the hole she made.

For Legion, you need to create a 30th century society. Kryptonians being unable to fly in outer space is much more of a drag on plot lines.

I'd like both. :)

And, I am not opposed to the idea of Chris Wood having his own show if they are going to write Mon El out after this season (if not, then that point is moot).

The special effects may be difficult, but they are managing with Legends. Besides, isn't legion something that was never before seen on Live TV? I don't know much about them, but I think so.

I think a lot of young guys who don't watch Supergirl for obvious reasons (my nephew doesn't for example; and he doesn't even have a good reason for it) would be all over the Legions show.

I have to disagree, I think it would be a great Monday match up with Supergirl, and the age group that would be watching it, as in that 13 -- 25 age group never watched Smallville so there would not be the problem of comparison, and those that did watch Smallville, that group older in more the 39 + group would probably tune in because of Smallville. So, I have to disagree on the Midvale not now opinion.

I enjoyed Midvale and hope that we see more flashbacks to not only get a better understanding of Kara and Alex but, also to see the actresses who portrayed their counterparts. But, I'm not sure that I would watch a spin-off. It would depend on the direction that it took but, a show that involves teenagers is most likely going to focus on teen romance and angst and I see enough of that already.

I am not a huge superhero follower so, I have no familiarity with the Legions.

Totally. It's "Midvale" for me. It would be like Smallville, but focused on Kara and Alex of course. As I said in a post on this, I'd like it to be either on the CW Seed or be like a summer replacement on the CW. Maybe use Supergirl reruns to lead in on Mondays? just sayin'?

I dont see this happening anytime soon as they still have to do a 5th CW hero show 'Black Lightning' which is coming in January. I dont know if thats going to tie into the arrow verse but I can imagine it probably will sooner or later.

(Also we're getting Traci 13 on the CW as a 6th show sooner or later I think so any supergirl/legion spinoffs will probably be a while.)

It won't happen ever I'm sure.....however, a Midvale episode 2 to 3 times a season would be fantastic.....

How does one solve the inconsistencies. One path is

"My name is Kara Zor-El. You probably know my twin on the parallel earth-42. She's the one who got to earth 25 years after her cousin did, so he had grown up when she arrived. I'm the one who got to Earth, and baby Kal-El was no where to be found. His story had a happy ending, but I didn't know that for many years. No, I got to earth, rescued myself from my pod, and was all alone in a strange world."

Let's see. Does Kara Zor-El keep using her powers, or not? The plot could still arrange itself that she ends up as the house guest of the leading American student of those occasional visitors from a strange alien planet, the Kryptonians, this being Jeremiah, his charming wife,a nd their daughter Alex.

What teenager EVER did exactly what they were supposed to do. I never once thought, oh, she won't use her powers ever again after the flashback scene in "Livewire" of course she would use them again. NOW.....fly? no I have a feeling she never did that again after she Alex almost got hit by the car except of course when she needed to save someone she loved....which we saw in this last episode and the pilot.. The reason they didn't want her using her powers before Jeremiah left was to not tip of the DEO, but as we know they already knew about her, and Jeremiah went to work for them so they would leave Kara alone. No reason why she couldn't continue to use some of her powers under wraps so to speak.

But, I really have no clue why we would need her on another earth? It would just be the early years of Kara on Earth-38. We have an audience that cares about Earth 38 Kara, so they would want to see her early years, not some Kara on another earth, that wouldn't be the Kara we have grown to love..... That would be weird...

The reason you want another earth, or want to retcon the Jeremiah thing and "I hid my powers" out of existence, is that with those constraints around the plots that let her *use* her powers as young supergirl become extremely convoluted very quickly.
