I would like to see Big screen Black Canary but only if it was done right which mean's

1. Right actoress in the part
2. Serious take on character but at same time have humor in movie as well.
3. Director that has respect for the character and take's it seriously.
4. Perhap's even having reference of her working with Green Arrow.
5. exploring the price she has paid not just in her personal life but emotional price as well.
6. How does she deal's with having double life.
7. Villian that is equally match for her.
8. You could possibly keep the budget under 100 Million.

In an ideal world, Supergirl would / should be made as a proper remedy to the unsuccessful and unfortunately highly flawed 1984 film. The actors didn't ruin the original film - the script, editing and 1980s mindset were the main culprits

When I originally pitched the idea of a Supergirl film back in 2007, the intent / hope was for WB to do a cinematic reboot version, but the EPs and producers figured it was more beneficial to do a TV pilot and then (after a positive reception), a series - for which I am eternally thankful. The character's essence was captured flawlessly (in large part to MB's take) but the technical execution still requires fine-tuning since there are limits as to what can be done on / with a TV production. Ideally, it should be handled by one (or two) well-seasoned writer(s) and one very adept and versed director to capture its pure essence for the cinematic screen.

Despite some ongoing hits and misses with the TV series (which have been discussed and critiqued at length on these boards), it is having a positive cultural impact - particularly among girls and women. This was / is the intent. A full-fledged motion picture would then enhance this intent since it would have a large, nearly-instantaneous global release, rather than the current staggered distribution found with international TV broadcasts.

Should a proper large scale Supergirl movie come about, I would sincerely hope that WB would continue to incorporate the constructive and positive elements from the Superman franchise (esp. the Donner vision as I originally suggested in my pitch) and that of the current TV series and by doing so, up the female-lead superhero genre a notch or two.

The current cinematic Wonder Woman take is a much-needed and respectable representation after a series of unsuccessful, partially realised and underperforming attempts in the past.

I'll state the obvious, I'd like to see Supergirl. Has the empty pod in "Man of Steel" absolutely been confirmed as Kara Zor El's?

I know she was in the prequel comic, but a couple of movies later and those comics often get contradicted and ignored.

It would be interesting to see the different perspective another actress might bring. Note with two seasons vs a two hour movie, we will still love and most likely prefer Melissa's take on the character but it would be interesting.

As the last Superhero movie I watched was Superman 3, I have no idea!

I would certainly rectify this terrible record if Melissa were to appear as Supergirl. For me, she is Supergirl, and having someone take her place would be like going to see the Bootleg Beatles! I know Helen played Supergirl in the first movie, but I fear I was not that impressed (with due deference to those who loved her).

But I have seen reference before on this site that actors in TV series are not asked to replicate their roles on the big screen. Does anyone know the rationale for this? If it is because they are not considered good enough well ok. But here we are talking about Melissa!, who I have seen in some of her movies (Whiplash and Patriots Day) where she has been excellent. And bearing in mind some of the writing, she has worked miracles on our favourite TV show.

It's not because their not considered talented enough. Logistically when would Melissa or Grant have time to film a Supergirl or Flash movie? They're getting about 10 weeks off before filming for the next season. The characters in Marvel TV shows aren't the leads from the movies so the actors can manage. The tones of the DC movies and TV shows are quite different. It's going to be interesting to see a different Flash in a movie.

The problem with the Supergirl movie, wasn’t Helen Slater, it was a really bad script and too many big name actors (Faye Dunaway, Peter O'Toole, Mia Farrow, Peter Cook) taking up a lot of screen time. Each one of them fighting to make something worthwhile out of a terrible script.

The Directors cut shows more of Helen’s acting that did not appear in the original. Her acting was good, unfortunately the script was unrescuable.

I know Helen played Supergirl in the first movie, but I fear I was not that impressed.

It’s not always actor talent, there are many Actors on TV that are far better Actors than some in the movies.

  1. If TV Actors were not as good we wouldn’t keep watching them week after week for full seasons let alone an entire series.
  2. If a Movie Actor is not good its only two hours after which we heavily criticise their acting skills.
  3. It’s an industry where you have to know somebody already in the industry to gain entry.
  4. There is also snobbery, there are some Film Actors who refuse to Act for TV as the feel its beneath them.
  5. There is also stereotyping.
  6. Unfortunately there can also be prejudice towards how an actor looks. Many “Normal” (I hate using that word for this thought) looking people who are great TV actors would never get a role in a Film, on the other hand there are many movies where the “Actor” has Barbie or Ken proportions but can’t act to save their life. Need an actor to play a character with a disability, they get a fully able bodied person to play the part, they’d never dream of doing a casting call to find a talented actor that has the same disability. Even with background extras it’s just as bad. Next movie you watch, look at the background, it won’t mirror real life, how many people with disabilities will appear in the background, you will rarely see individuals in wheelchairs, walking around with white canes, or Guide Dogs etc.

The problem for me is the only other actress I want to see as Supergirl in a movie other than Melissa is Brie Larson.....and well, we know that can't happen. :( but I will enjoy her in the Captain Marvel movie...lol
