A while ago the news section was heating up during the Mon-El war or something. Was getting pretty disastrous, many were part of it, I was part of it, I was being roasted, others were being roasted. Admin intervened with a reform and the next day up and removed the up and down vote ability.

A profound thanks to admin as they have helped keep the peace for this beautiful site. Now that the storm is largely passed though, I would like to suggest something.

I get the old feature could be divisive, comments could be buried in negative votes, and the voting was kinda ammunition for the different fan sects and ships. But it worked both ways and had a positive purpose, it was used to promote peace by liking moderating and even opposition comments, and in times of no debate, used to encourage members, show support, and indicate consensus.

On Facebook and Youtube the ability to like but not dislike has largely preserved the peace. I missed the old green upvote, it makes commenting that much funner. I think as long as the red downvote doesn't come back, people can't use it for negativity.

I second Kiwi's previous comments. ;)

Now that the storm is largely passed..

I think it's just a false sense of calm at this point. Once the show picks up in the fall I'm sure the 'storm' will be in full effect again.

I agree, although it could be divisive, it worked in allowing members to engage with each other in both positive and negative fashions, like you said, it worked both ways.

I disagree. Neither of those platforms can be described as 'peaceful' with the removal of the downvote. I quite prefer having both an up and down vote option as it gives us the ability to express our agreement or disagreement to others opinions without having to physically type out a comment to do so. I think downvotes help keep the peace better by allowing people to simply click a button to show their disagreement instead of them writing out a reply that can in turn kickstart arguments that sometimes turn ugly.

But I mean it doesn't have to be. Like me and you, we're not really on the same side on the SC and some other business at all. But I see no reason to start a fight everytime and I bet neither do you. We just need to all have that figured and we're set. At the end of the day it's just a show that we all watch. Nothing to get edgy about.

Oh I agree, I've actually tried to keep away from a lot of the arguments lately (they're just so tiring). But although we may feel this way, it unfortunately doesn't mean others will.
