There’s been discussion of what Kara does and doesn’t remember so I thought I’d open a forum topic about it. This is my understanding of how Kara remembers things. During CoIE part 5 Kara and her fellow Paragons were confused and seemed unaware of the history of the new Earth that they were transported to, now called Earth-Prime. The Paragons also seemed to only have memories both historical and personal from the prior universe, in Kara’s case Earth-38. From what I’ve seen the Paragons still have gaps but to a large extent they’ve probably been able to fill things in regarding Earth-Prime in secondhand ways. If it’s general history, they can read about it. Personal memories can to a large extent filled in by a trusted person like Alex. Why J’onn could not do anything to give the Paragons memories of Earth-Prime I go with because he was a paragon himself.

Speaking of Alex, this is how I understand a non-Paragon like Alex remembers things. The Alex we have from CoIE part five forward is Earth-Prime Alex who only knew the history and had personal memories of Earth-Prime. When J’onn whammied her she got Earth-38 Alex’s memories both personal and historical. How he did that I won’t get into. Alex now knows everything about Earth-Prime and everything about Earth-38 up to the time it was destroyed in CoIE and she is able to distinguish between the two. She knows that Kenny died in the old universe and didn’t in the new one.

As audience members we know the events of the prior universe as we were shown and the events of Earth-Prime from CoIE part five forward as we’ve been shown but do not know what happened on Earth prime prior to CoIE. We actually saw past events on Earth-Prime for the first time in these flashback episodes. Some viewers say CoIE changed a shows history and I guess that depends on the definition of history. If you’re definition of changing a shows history is Kenny died and now he’s alive then yes CoIE changed history. What I do is separate the two like Alex does. Kenny died in one universe but not the other. To me that doesn’t mean he never died at all and the shows history was changed. I saw it therefore it happened no matter which universe it happened on.

Other board members may understand things differently so I thought we should discuss that before we talk about exactly what different characters remember and how that affects them.

That is pretty much my understanding of the state of things. :)

It sort of opens up the question of whether the Kara we saw in Prom Night and Prom Again is/was really "our" Kara.

Earth Prime Kara also seemed to demonstrate a better mastery of her powers at 17 years old than Earth-38 Kara did in early season one.

I can't not think of this stuff. It's a curse. :D

I too was wondering about that but not because of Alex or Kara. My questioning arose as a result of "young" Cat/CJ Grant. Nia poignantly didn't mention "become a mom" to Cat in what her Earth 38 counterpart accomplished by the time we see her in Season 1 and by this part her E38 Counterpart should have at least given birth to Adam. This made me wonder if Adam/Carter exist in the new multiverse or in this multiverse Cat decides to forgo having children in her zeal to persue the accomplishments that Nia mentioned her Earth 38 self accomplished-as an aside one of Kara's former job description(per her wiki) is former babysitter to Carter Grant

I felt like Cat's children had been quietly erased by the "soft reboot" at the beginning of season 2. Given her season 1 behavior, it doesn't make sense that she would up and leave her youngest so she could live in a yurt and find herself.
