I just finished another of my Supergirl fan-fiction stories - #37, "A Vacation at Seagrape Island". This time, I thought I'd send Kara out here to the Southeast coast, and have her discover East Coast beach music. Of course, I had to come up with some action scenes, too, but that's easy to do with Maggie in the mix now. Come to think of it, maybe this story could be subtitled "Supergirl Does the Shag"!

Actually, I think that WVCO, 94.9 "The Surf", in the Myrtle Beach market is the biggest Carolina beach music station of all. That's what I listened to when I was there over the summer!

Here's their website: http://www.949thesurf.com/

You'll notice that I sent Team Super to a thinly-disguised Seabrook Island, South Carolina :)

Here's the current Beach Music Top 40 (Bruno Mars is in the top 20, which is why I mentioned him in the story):

Well Beach Music and the Shag are both associated with both North and South Carolina. Their history dates back to the late 1940's, in the era before rock and roll. And R&B is a major contributor to both genres.

And Stewart you have done it again. Set me up to go a little bit Winn Schott on you on broadcasting and radio. There are some radio stations, mainly in the Carolinas that play programs about beach music or mix beach music in with oldies or "classic hits" as TPTB wish to call them (YUK).

WFBS...a low power FM station serving the area near Clemson, SC.

WKSX-FM in Johnston, South Carolina (near Augusta, GA..."Best Oldies & Beach on the Radio" )

WIOZ, an Adult Contemporary station in Southern Pines, North Carolina. The station, which goes by Star 102.5 plays beach music on Sundays from 2pm - 7pm with DJ King Curtiss Carpenter.

WFLO AM-FM in Farmville, Virginia (Richmond) is home to the "Saturday Night Beach Party," hosted by Ron Moody on Saturday evenings.

WSGE, an NPR FM station in Dallas, North Carolina (Charlotte) playing beach and shag Friday nights, all day Saturdays and at 1pm on Sunday afternoons

WNCT-FM,an FM oldies station broadcasting in Greenville, North Carolina, features Steve Hardy's Original Beach Party on Sundays from 5pm-10pm.

WNCT-AM also in Greenville, plays beach music full-time is called "Beach, Boogie & Blues" along with a series of FM translators (95.7 in New Bern, 101.1 in Jacksonville and 105.9 in Greenville). And for those with a high definition radio, on 106.5 HD2 and 103.3 HD2.

And many of these stations can be streamed online.
