The Hollywood Reporter has a big article about how Film & TV plan to deal with the new normal in the wake of the pandemic once filming on movies and shows can resume.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/as-hollywood-maps-return-new-set-protocols-take-center-stage-1292071

Here's the part that relates to some of the Arrowverse shows like Supergirl that shoot in Vancouver.

For productions that are willing to work in other territories, there are other hurdles standing in the way, like the fact that it's unclear when certain closed borders will open up again for noncitizens. In Canada, for instance, Toronto Mayor John Tory and his city's public health officials say they are actively working with other levels of government nationwide on plans to reopen the U.S.-Canadian border, followed by a lifting of 14-day quarantine orders, to help get the film sector back up and running. "If you continue this indefinitely," he says of the quarantine period, "it will impair the number of people who can come here to readily pick up production of a TV show or film because they'd have to count themselves out of action for two weeks." Williamson says series leads have already begun to return to Vancouver to sit out their quarantines so that they can be ready to jump into production on day one, whenever that might be.

The whole article is worth a read.

Related article from Variety A couple of things that stood out to me. Fight scenes especially hand to hand scenes will be limited. There’s no good way for the actors and/or doubles to not be very close to each other. Special guest stars, like Helen Slater, flying in for a few scenes will likely not be happening. More local directors doing multiple episodes instead of a director flying in for a single episode. Someone like Kevin Smith would have to make a much bigger time commitment but if he did he could conceivably do say an episode each of different shows as long as he doesn’t leave. I can see every actor who wants to direct being given the opportunity. Fewer outdoor scenes and no crowds.

At the moment these things are necessary planning. CW shows have the added issue of the US/Canada border being closed to non essential workers. If production on Supergirl does wind up starting later than the other shows due to Melissa’s pregnancy that could give time to iron out the new protocols and make things smoother.

Yes,it will be interesting to see how the shows handle this new normal .Is it wrong that I would actually like to see Flash or Supergirl talking down bad guys from their bedrooms via Zoom atleast once.lol

To be serious again,it does sound like we probably won't get any great fight scenes going forward.I still rate Supergirl's first fight with Reign pretty high as a favorite.I also really like Supergirl's fight with Red Daughter.

I'm sure there are creative ways around some of this though.

Also considering we have no idea when shows will be able to start filming new seasons,Melissa's pregnancy may be a benefit for the show.Since they couldn't do that rumored April filming, they will have to wait until November anyway for Melissa to finish her maternity leave,Supergirl may be a little ahead of the curve compared to the other Arrowverse shows in that regard.

I'm figuring next year will be shortened seasons for all the Arrowverse shows and I don't think we will be getting the next crossover event that Marc Guggenheim said they were already planning before the pandemic.Maybe we can still get a small crossover like just Supergirl & Batwoman and/or Flash & Black Lightning(might be tougher since Black Lightning films in Atlanta).

I can easily envision a scenario where the other shows don't start production much before Melissa is able to return. They worked without her for a month at the beginning of season four, I wouldn't want that again but a couple of weeks would be doable, if they set the return date right after she delivers that should give everyone enough notice. From all the info we have I was I was thinking she'd be ready Novemberish too, show wise at this point the further along she is the better. Supergirl wound up better off for the current season than the other shows, the planned finale was almost done so the one we get will likely be much less cobbled together and finished than the other shows. I agree most TV shows will have shortened seasons and what's going to happen with the pilots that were ordered in January is up in the air. Defiantly no mega-crossover next year, not enough time. Smaller cameos within the shows that are filmed in Vancouver is a possibility but anything with Black Lightning is probably a no go. Traditionally fall shows end before Memorial Day weekend but I wonder if networks will change that, IMO that isn't relevant anymore.

I'm hoping they can still do some good fight work and stunts..Supergirl already has precious little hand to hand combat. I don't want to lose what we have.

Despite my feelings, push comes to shove, Supergirl and Flash can MAYBE get away with no hand to hand fight work. But a rule like that would cripple Batwoman, as a show. No superpowers, she's a vigilante character that, like Arrow, needs hand to hand combat in her show.

Nothing is set, yet. These are just starting points for conversation, at Warner. Hopefully they can sort something out.

I'm hoping that, by the time they reopen, they can test, regularly, without issue. Casts and crews are PRETTY self contained during season, due to the long hours of the work. If they can verify health by testing negative, and practice social distancing outside of set, casts and crews SHOULD be able to move freely with one another while on set.

These are just my thoughts. I'm just hoping things get in track for Fall filming. I moved I ut here to Vancouver specifically for film school, then the film industry shuts down...gotta have a sense of humor, about it.
