One of the points I was trying to make in my story was that when Kara had her identity secret, she was basically playing a character. So when she signed autographs, it was like parents at Disney World asking "Mickey Mouse" or "Goofy" to sign an autograph for their kids. But now everyone knows Kara is Supergirl, so Supergirl is like a second job to her. When she puts on the Supergirl costume to "save the day", it's like a police officer putting on their uniform.
