So...did anyone else feel like Superman & Lois 1 season was really following the same framework as Supergirl Season 1, just with a bigger budget and better cinematography?

I present my case:

1) The antagonist is a family member leading a group of rogue Kryptonians to take over Earth.
2) In episode 1, we meet a mysterious character who is presumed to be an antagonist (Henshaw / Captain Luthor), but turns out to be a hero (Martian Manhunter / Steel).
3) Roughly 3/4 through the season, something happens to our hero to make them briefly turn against the public.

Makes me chuckle, especially those who insist Superman & Lois is so far above Supergirl, when Superman & Lois wouldn't have happened without Supergirl. Still peeves me that Superman & Lois has yet to acknowledge Supergirl's existence.

I can see your points. Also agree about acknowledging Supergirl.Retconning Lucy was the icing on top.You don't need Supergirl to actually appear onscreen to acknowledge the parent series.

Depends which way you choose to look at. I see them as quite different, Supergirl Season 1 was about Kara's journey to becoming and learning to be a Superheroine (something that was done well with her growth from the Pilot to the Finale) whereas Clark in Superman Season 1 was a well established and long time hero who was trying to balance his Superhero life with his family life. To me Supergirl and Superman (the characters that I watch the shows for and care about) were on quite different journeys and that certainly differentiates the shows. I also much preferred Supergirl Season 1 brighter lighting to Superman and Lois's which was just too dark during it's Season 1.

Lucy Lane is fine, I certainly feel S and L respected the Supergirl Casting Department by asking Jenna Dewan to play the character again (i/o recasting) and they also respected Jenna by seemingly giving her the choice to portray the character on a very different path in life. Supergirl Season 2 to 6 chose not to have Lucy Lane return or as I can recall even mention her so they didn't give the same respect to the character IMHO that S and L have. The latest episode of S and L (S2 E6) certainly had some really nice Lucy moments with her nephews and with Lois for a time (after their Dad told them to stop arguing and get along for a day).

I certainly want Supergirl to appear on S and L (and I believe she will, Melissa probably would've appeared on S and L Season 1 if not for Covid protocols) which would mean far more than just a random mention of her. I haven't felt slighted as a Supergirl fan (who's also a Superman fan) that Kara hasn't been mentioned yet, as I say for me it's a case of show rather than tell.

Well, given that Melissa has a starring role in a new show coming out in the near future, I doubt if she's going backward with her career and will not appear on S&L. Her career is moving forward and I'm on board. If you wish I can save you a seat on the Melissa Train.;)

I won't be joining you on that particular train ride. Supergirl had enough politics as it is let alone a whole show about politics. I won't be watching her new show.

I think it would've. I don't actually consider S and L to be spin off from Supergirl (which is why I haven't been bothered with no mention of Kara yet). The Clark and Lois as parents story was going to be explored 25 years ago if the Lois and Clark show had gotten a Season 5. The current story of Superman and Lois as parents was entirely contained within the Elseworlds and Crisis on Infinite Earths crossovers which I consider to be their own mini-series separate from the other shows (which in turn owe their existence to a Superman show - Smallville).

S&L is the literal definition of a spin-off. As defined by Merriam-Webster spin-off is.

”something that is imitative or derivative of an earlier work, product, or establishment
especially : a television show starring a character popular in a secondary role of an earlier show.”

Clark as played by Tyler appeared on Supergirl before S&L became a show therefore S&L is a spin-off of Supergirl in the same way Flash is a spin-off of Arrow.

I wish S&L fans would quit making excuses for that show not acknowledging it’s part of a greater universe. I heard when Jordan got Kryptonite poisoning Clark burned it out of him. Hello, anit-kryptonite tech exists on Earth-Prime. The showrunners and writers would rather show Clark putting his son through pain than acknowledge tech that Kara uses.

I could respond to the post below this but I'm not going to, a back and forth is just not appealing and won't achieve anything, I will say this:

Superman and Lois is not a perfect show, there's things that I haven't enjoyed but the show is definitely not as bad as it's portrayed here (in multiple threads now). I mentioned what I saw as the differences between the 2 shows respective Season 1's in a earlier post and now I'll touch on 2 things that were similar which heightened my enjoyment of both shows Season 1 (Supergirl 6 stars, S and L 5 stars). Firstly the excellent performances by the actors (Melissa, Tyler and Elizabeth) portraying the titular characters (Supergirl, Superman and Lois). And secondly the most important thing to me with any show starring a Super and that's the Superheroics, pretty awesome and always bought the most joy. That's what I choose to focus on when comparing Supergirl Season 1 with Superman and Lois Season 1.
