It looks like the Coronavirus has given the folks at Supergirl's old network CBS a big case of nostalgia. The network will be airing the 1981 classic "Raiders of The Lost Ark" (starring Calista Flockhart's husband Harrison Ford as Indy) from 8:00 to 10:34 EST...and the film's second hour will be up against Melissa Benoist's directorial debut and the next two or three episodes.

Even more, CBS is doing a retooling of one of their classic movie opens from 1978-1987, which for kids of the 80's like me...is potential joy.

In fact..here it is as it was back in the day...Special Movie Presentation in this case.



And here is some trivia...the company behind that segment is R/GA formerly R/Greenberg Associates, founded in 1977, by brothers, Richard and Robert Greenberg. They also did titles for many feature films, including one film we all know well.

It also turns out this will include other big hit films as well...

May 10 - Forrest Gump (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT)
May 17 - Mission: Impossible (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT)
May 24 - Titanic (7:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT)
May 31 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT)


Note...these are all Paramount films...CBS as it is a part of Viacom, which is a part of Paramount.

Feature films have not been seen on TV in over 15 years. By the way, the two Superman films and Helen Slater's Supergirl, were on ABC. To turn it to my area, the films, including Superman III and IV (the clunker of the bunch) were on...Supergirl's current home WPIX channel 11 in their pre-WB and CW days.

With people staying home and maybe even some of them telling cable to hit the road, this is CBS looking at the trends...albeit a couple of years into cord cutting.

This does bring back memories.I remember as little kid watching Superman The Movie and Superman II on ABC and they were extended cuts(much of which is now available on home media releases).Superman The Movie was a two night event.



I was really young then and only remember bits and pieces like my mom taking me up to bed before the first night was over.



I remember this so well.Again,I was a little kid at the time.We were at a family get together that night and I had started watching it.After the first hour,it was time to go but I didn't want to because I wanted to watch the rest of the film(this was before we had a VCR so other then cable this was the only way I could see it) especially for the new footage cut back into it.My mom said I could finish watching when we got home.Ofcourse it was over by the time we got home and I had a major temper tantrum over missing the last half of it.lol



Superman III is bad but it holds a special place in my heart since I saw it in the movies when it came out in 83 with my dad.That and Return Of The Jedi.

I love me some Raiders and even though I have it on disk,I would probably watch if a new Supergirl and Batwoman weren't on.New Arrowverse episodes takes precedence over watching a classic movie that I have on home media.heh.

Comic fan I was about to say that if this works for CBS, and I am kind of expecting it to work for them...could ABC be next go retro with either of their old opens referred to by fans as the "Star Tunnel", complete with a dynamic almost adrenaline-fueled music score which was seen on Superman and Superman II? Or maybe the "Star Marquee" with its 70's pop/jazz mixture and the late announcer Joel Crager intoning "ABC" "SUNDAY" "MOVIE" as the titles zoom and all spelled out in stars.

Many of these opens I remember and thanks to YouTube I relive them. By the way, WPIX had some great opens as well here in NYC. One of my favorites was for the Saturday Afternoon Movie used from 1976-1985...during their days as "11 Alive."

I could see other networks trying this if they can't get new shows on the air in a timely way.If they can't produce new content than turn to old popular stuff.

Yes,since Disney owns ABC.They can show Marvel Studio films,Pixar films and Star Wars films. right off the bat.Not to mention all their other live action and animated film properties.
