Make It Reign—REVIEW.

ACTING…4.0
ADVENTURE…4.0
WRITING…3.0
EFFECTS…4.5

POLITICAL PENALTY: NONE

BONUS: A scene like that from Superman II where Superman battles Zod Non and Ursa (1.0). The columns from Krypton (0.5)

SCORE: 17.0/20

With now two episodes left in this season, the writers need to get their heads out of the sand, stop with the politics and romance, and get their A-plus game going. And they do in part one of the two part season three finale.

When last we left, Sam was split from Reign. But now Selena (guest star Anjali Jay) and two witches, responsible it seems for creating the Worldkillers and keeping their plans of destruction alive.

On earth, Selena and crew plan their destruction. And they are powerful. One takes the harun-el…which is toxic. And then, crazy Covile shows up and bows down to them.

Meanwhile, on Argo, Kara and Mon-El are trapped since “The Witches of Argo” (my alt title for this, based on The Witches of Eastwick…sans Jack Nicholson) stole Jonn’s vehicle to head back to earth to plan their invasion…AND KILL SAM ONCE AND FOR ALL.

At the traitor’s house Kara comes upon an atlas of Earth…and therein lies a connection with Covile and the Witches. Included in his screeds were instructions on Worldkillers.

At Sam and Ruby’s house, Ruby comes upon her very weak mom, who admits the truth about Reign. She wants Alex and Lena to help out. But at the DEO Alex still sees an adoption website.

Sadness will befall J’onn (David Harewood) as he prepares to say goodbye to his father (guest star Carl Lumby). I liked Space Grandpa, I really did. He was one of my favorite additions this season along with Sam/Reign and Ruby. Now if it's to go back to Mars good, but if it's what I think it is, well…RIP Space Grandpa. For a man ready to depart, Myrnn is quite happy. A lesson…never fear death. One I should learn.

Back on Argo, Kara is handed a sword sheath, form one stolen by Selena. Then in a hologram crystal Selena said Allura was responsible for Krypton’s death. She is vindictive on killing humanity. Selena says between Sam and Reign ONLY ONE will survive. Selena predicts earthquakes will destroy Earth, like they did Kyrpton. But then…A TRAP…Selena sets off a blast injuring one of Allura’s friends

At the DEO, Sam gets examined by Dr. Alex. Lena comes in and tells her the bloodcells have mutated from human to Kryptonian. Sam…IS DYING! Then an idea…A SUN LAMP to supercharge the cells. But…there may be danger

Winn comes in daring Demos to punch him. But…Winn’s wearing a belt buckle that acts as a shield.

Back at Jonn’s apartment, the ceremony is about to begin. It is in essence a story of Myrnn and life and strife on Mars. Myrnn is ready to send his knowledge to Jonn.

Back at Argo, Kara knows of. But Mon-El’s beacon was damaged. Zor-El was working to get a trans-mat portal to escape Krypton…akin to Jor-El’s rocket for Kal-El.

Then at Zor-El’s lab, Kara reminsices.

Back at the fortress, the witches are ready for Covile to power up the Harun-El. The witches then chant for Reign to return. Then…FIRE…Reign is reborn…somewhat. The fire gave only one bloodline. She needs three, and Covile knows where.

Back at the DEO, the sun lamp recharges Sam. The shield is put back up…and Sam SEES THROUGH. Lena has an idea…use the blood to rejuvenate Sam’s cells

Back at Argo, a plan is in the works. Allura gives Kara a catch crystal. Then at the DEO, Winn gets a signal…THEN…ALLURA SHOWS UP…but with Kara’s voice? Alex is called in, but Winn is not convinced. But a fear of a New Krypton, send Winn into some action.

Then during the reach, we see lots of Jonn’s memories…including Zook!

At the DEO, Winn talks with his buddy Mon-El, who fixes things like any good man would. Kara tells mom about her struggles with Mon-El. The time portal is ready…but then…HERE COME THE WITCHES OF ARGO! Their mission, get Reign’s bloodlines together and destroy all…the new weapons won’t work. Despite Alex’s gun, the witches escape. In a DEO storeroom, Alex uncovers k-rock.

Winn contacts Alura, but then he is frozen by one of the witches. Kara and Monty suit up, and Kara tries to go techie…but a hologram can’t touch. Kara sees what is going on. And Alura tricks one of the witches. Another one of the witches goes after Sam and Ruby, who tries a distraction, but the witch is zapped by the force shield. Alex shoots on with k-rock, then she goes after another with it, but it fails. Alex gets up, shoots again.

TO be honest, this action was so fast, I couldn’t keep up. What I know is, is that the last witch fell for a trick, which activated the portal allowing, Supergirl, Valor, and Allura to step through. Then SG in a battle with the witches tossed the blood in the air and hit it with heat vision just as a witch grabbed it. Then…ZAP.

RIP Demos! At L Corp, Lena talks with Alex, then Eve comes in and tells of the situation. Lena is still not getting results. Then…AN IDEA.

And then as the reach is nearing an end, some of Mars’ painful memories are shown. We have memories, good and bad.

Back at the fortress, it turns out Supergirl only made Reign STRONGER. At the DEO, the whole team comes up. Sam is very weak. The only chance of survival is a fountain.

Back at the fortress, Reign draws the sword. The Worldkillers mission…turn Earth into New Krypton. Covile was tricked into this…and is heat blasted to death.

James shows up, consoling Winn after his non-lethal alternative failed. James should be back at CATCO.

At the DEO, Sam is ready for an experiment…a last ditch effort. And Allura meets Alex for the first time…pure love. Sam tells Ruby she’s a badass. And then, Lena sends Sam to the dark valley. As the witches ready their plan, Reign digs through the earth’s core, causing earthquakes in National City, tornadoes and other disasters around the world…THE BIG ONE IS COMING…IS IT NEW KRYPTON?!

Sounds like it may be a job for…The Legion of Superheroes and others.

Can team Supergirl stop new krypton from forming resulting in the deaths of millions? What will Supergirl’s final battle with Reign lead to? Can Sam Arias survive the Dark Valley and become human? And…will Lena Luthor and Supergirl still be friends?

For the answers to these questions and many more, tune in next week for the incredible climax of season three, Battles Lost and Won…same Super time, same Super channel.

This episode was a VAST improvement over last week’s hyper political in your face mess. And let me say the man known for his mind blowing special effects on the CW shows, including The Flash and Supergirl, Armen V. Kevorkian directed the episode. And did it with power, heart, and action. Not to mention, the aforementioned special effects.

Ray Utarnachitt & Cindy Lichtman wrote the episode, which had great acting as always, fantastic adventure, and was totally politics free. Not to mention some Easter eggs for us. The writing team had to step up things. And in this first part of the finale, they did.

Very much liked this one!

Favorite parts:

-I was let down on the lack of emotion when Kara and Alura reunited. But, how Melissa portrayed introducing her mom to Alex? Standing ovation. Bravo!!! Well done Mel, Chyler, Mrs. Durance, and writers.

-Great special effects. But, not a shocker due to this week's director :P

-With the gripes I've had with James from time-to-time, I'm RARELY, if ever, let down during Winn/James momemts.

- Reign rising up with the sword was just down right slick looking.

Two Negatives:

-Still very sad with how the writers are choosing to portray a lack of honor and sanctity the bonds of marriage. "It's complicated?" First thing I'd say to MY mom is, "Well, see? He's married." Yeah yeah, it's a tv show. Doesn't lessen the bummer feels I'm getting, though. Hoping the story "turns around" in the end, and some clear honor is shown.

-With ALL the talk talk talk about gun control from last week...Alex chose to resort to a gun and Kryptonite bullets, and the shield only left one DEO agent dead. Mixed message. No, the bullets didn't kill them, but Alex IS still alive.

Oh... One last negative? what was up with Kara choosing to throw the blood AT Serena? Soooo many smarter options--toss vial in opposite direction while zapping with heat vision, run away super fast to put distance between Kara and the Black Kryptonians THEN heat vision them, step on them then burn.... Etc etc etc lol
