Supergirl protest

I agree, save the use of a petition until it's truly needed, where it can deliver more impact, rather than crying wolf over a schedule where the episodes will still be aired.

However as a fan, I would hope a petition will never be necessary.

With ALL the many, many protests from shipdom fans... I have a feeling, one more petition just makes the execs roll their eyes.

I don't see this petition going anywhere. IMO it just feels like more fans yelling into the void. With that being said, no I would not sign it.

Naturally, the petition will go nowhere, as series production is already on holiday break, as per schedule. A few thousand signers versus millions of dollars, and millions of viewers who WON'T be signing....well, let's just say that The CW understands math a bit better than the knee-jerk petition folks.

Melissa already appears to be canceling a previously planned New York appearance in January due to her show's revised shooting schedule...

...and now the probable reason can be said...huge DC-TV superhero event in Washington, DC on MLK weekend, to celebrate the premiere of Black Lightning. Appearances by many of the series stars haven't been announced yet, but I'm sure they will be forthcoming.

Do I like the large break? No. As an ardent fan of the show, I want as much Supergirl as often as I can get it. As that same fan, there are also a lot of aspects about the show that I would love to see happen or changed but, that doesn't mean that I will or even should get those items. We have become a very egocentric society, believing that our own personal desires or beliefs should be forced upon the masses without an understanding of a process or a regard for others who might also be affected. This petition is one of those instances.

If there was an actual threat of Supergirl being cancelled, I would sign up in heartbeat with the hope that the network would see how much support the show has before making that decision. But, to have a petition because I don't like the schedule or a specific story, pairing, character. etc. is petty.

I agree with the majority on this one. I think this is great for those that need to feel like their voice is heard and taken into account.

I'm sure the CW knows what it is doing when it comes to their business(let's hope lol). I don't think this will hurt the show at all, could help like those suggested below as it does not have to compete with a lot of the sports shows. Though I think the network is pulling itself a bit thin with soooo many shows especially ones that require a lot of post production cgi work.

IMO I believe the network should wait to have a show finish out its run before adding another show with in the line up so it doesn't take a lot of schedule mixing to get things working.

Considering the past two seasons we kept having breaks every couple of episodes in the later half of the season, I am happy to be getting a 10 episode run later. The nine weeks break is not much more than what we got last year anyways.

I am sad that we will not keep getting Supergirl every week forever and more, but that was in any case not possible.

All I hope is that the cast--Melissa and Chyler (and others too)--get enough time to do their own things, so that they won't feel creatively stifled. I like it when their long breaks allow them to do other stuff they like; like Melissa in Waco or Chyler with her husband's band. And of course, David in stage and other stuff.

It's more than likely that the actual shooting schedule hasn't changed much, if at all. Just the broadcast times. Even if this change has something to do with Kreisberg's departure, the burden of adjusting those scripts will fall on the producers and writers to modify the scripts, and will likely have less impact on the cast and crew in Vancouver. They could easily work on those changes while the actual filming is on it's Winter Hiatus.

As such, I imagine Melissa and Co. will finish filming in March or April, and will be off until July, as usual.

IMO it's just people whining because they aren't getting what they're use to. This schedule change has absolutely no bearing on the likelihood of the show getting renewed, which all sources say is going to happen. It also isn't an indicator of how committed the network is to the show, the fact that we're getting 23 episodes shows the network is committed.

The CW is in a sorry not sorry position. They have 10 hours a week to air their shows and all their shows are an hour long. CW has 15+ bankable shows to fill 10 timeslots so rotation has to happen.

Does a nine week break have me jumping heck no but two thing I've in my live is Patience is a virtue and Good things come to those who wait. So lets just chillax everyone.

It is ridiculous, and much like a childish tantrum because they are not getting what they want.

There is no need for a petition, and it will do absolutely no good. The schedule is set, and there will be no changes to it. Instead of looking at the negative, which is......we aren't getting 14 episodes in a row, without breaks.

Positives:

1. We are still getting a nice little meal of episodes to snack on in January.
2. SG is not having to compete with the Olympics or March Madness.
3. Most if not all of her regular competition will be done and outta there, namely: The Voice, DWTS, Lucifer, will all be done by the last few episodes in June.
4. 10 uninterrupted episodes, MORE THAN WE HAVE EVER GOTTEN BEFORE.
5. 23 episodes, more than we have ever gotten before.


If we get what Flash and Arrow have?

1. We would get a few more than 4 episodes yes....
2. We would still have another hiatus, just as Flash and Arrow will...just like last year.
3. We would be in competition with the Olympics and March Madness (in the past we have had much lower ratings with DST coming in March as well.

So seriously what is the big freaking deal?

I didn't like the decision because it interrupts the storyline arc for such a long time. But I do not believe it will have any lasting negative effect on the overall success of the show. These business decisions are not made lightly but instead by examining a number of metrics and criteria which fans do not even know about. IMO the petition is pointless. The decision has been made and it is time to move on.

I can't blame people for signing the petition.

Unless there is a production reason behind the long hiatus (like reworking some stuff Kreisberg had a hand in), then I think 9 weeks is just too long. Especially just 4 episodes after a 5 week hiatus.

I could totally understand and be sympathetic if it was for a production reason. But if it's not, it seems they are just interrupting Supergirl's season, and sidelining it, so they can move Legends to promote Black Lightning.

This boils down to 2 issues for me. The first is that CW said they will never have more than 4 superhero shows running at one time. If that's the case, then don't order a fifth one. Or save it as a summer series. Don't disrupt your existing shows.

The second is that CW just generally needs to manage their schedule, better. For at least the past 2 years, they've had 5 shows waiting to premiere mid-season or later. It wasn't as big a deal, last year, because both Frequency and No Tomorrow got cancelled, and Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend typically have smaller seasons. And I think they waited to premiere iZombie until Legends of Tomorrow finished it's 17 episode season.

This year, though, one of their 2 new Freshman shows, Dynasty, got a full season. On top of that, instead of waiting for one of their Fall shows to wrap up, CW COMMITTED to airing Black Lightning in January, before any of their shows had wrapped. Why, is beyond me.

And besides Black Lightning, they still have 4 other shows waiting to begin, after existing shows end. The 100, iZombie, The Originals, and Life Sentence.

I would place good money on The Originals and The 100 moving to Fridays, after Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend end. iZombie has typically been on Tuesdays, so that will probably air in April, the same week Supergirl comes back, as Black Lightning should theoretically end the week prior, if it runs straight with no off weeks. And Life Sentence will most likely be moved to Mondays, after Supergirl/Legends, once Valor ends.

Either way, one or more shows, other than Supergirl, will run into June 2018. That's just because of the number of things they have waiting to air.

I'll like having something to actually watch in May and June, and having so many uninterrupted episodes at that. It's like the marshmallow experiment--place a marshmallow in front of a child, and promise they can have two IF they can wait and NOT eat the first one

I truly do not think Supergirl will lose any viewers over the hiatus. They would have been battling the Olympics and March Madness here in the States. If anything, it might actually pick of new viewers since many people will be LOOKING for new shows while others will be going to reruns or going on summer break.
