Great news for the character and helps the show a bit too. As for the new costume ... I'm not sold. I'm thinking I might design one myself for fun.
You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.

They said she'll have multiple costumes, at least for this arc. We'll see how it plays out.

Not sold on the costume but good that Supergirl will have a stand alone comic book again. I guess I’ll have to check out the Bendis Superman now. The beginning on the Bendis Superman was at the end on Action Comics 1000 and Supergirl was in it wearing a costume with a skirt.

I am really happy to hear the news. I really look forward to the new series. I truly enjoyed the last one and I do hope they keep that quality and level of interest.

The good news...HOORAY...Supergirl's back in the comics.

The bad...don't dig the hoodie.

But one of the costumes is a sort of hybrid of the recent comic book and TV show (with the high boots) and the 1959 all blue outfit. That I like

Smart move to uncancel Supergirl comics as this could give some ideas of a costume upgrade for the show's 4th season.

If you look at the attached gallery to the article, you can see she has a few costumes, including a more classic looking one. I'm not particularly convinced they'll change the TV costume based on this.

I don't think the suit on the show needs an upgrade.

She could have some sort of jump suit similar to what Overgirl wore in the crossover, as an alternative only.....I'm fine with the suit staying as is on the show.

If reports are correct, they asked Melissa if she wanted to change the costume for season 3, and she said to stay with it. We'll see if they stick with that attitude. Vancouver had a colder, longer winter than normal, this year.

The first of the six weekly Man of Steel Bendis comics that this new Supergirl story will tie into is being released tomorrow. I wasn't going to bother with the Bendis Man of Steel but since the new Supergirl will tie into them I plan to buy them.

I don't know if others noticed it, but she was freezing her arse off in those Argo City outside scenes.

If the suit changes for Melissa’s comfort I’m all for that but IMO that’s the only reason to change it. Didn’t Arrow go sleeveless one season but then went back to sleeves the next season. Stephen knew exactly what he was in for. Melissa’s had two years of colder than adverage Vancouver winters, so she knows the deal.

I just don’t think the suit needs to be changed just because it’s never changed.

I just finished the six part introduction Brian Michael Bendis Man of Steel. It was a good read, I recommend it. Kara was in it from the third issue. Her suit is red skirt, blue top with thumb sleeves, and over the knee boots. Pretty much like the previous rebirth suit. As far as suits I believe she's going to have more than one, her main one and perhaps less flashy cloths for space travel.

Kara was actually the one who defeats the villain Rogol Zaar who believes Krypton must be cleansed. Kal and Kara didn't get the answers to why Rogol Zara wanted to kill all Kryptonians or who/what he is. Rogol Zara said he blew up Krypton because of a promise to Jor-El. At the end Kara says she's going to chase the clues and find out the truth about Krypton. From the description of the revamped Supergirl rebirth coming out August 8th this is where her story will pick up. Rebirth 21

I read the new comic and really enjoyed it. I would recommend reading the six issue Brian Michael Bendis Man of Steel introduction first because as I suspected this picks up shortly after the events of that series. There’s a nice conversation between Kara and Kal where she reminds him that technically she is his older cousin and while Krypton is theoretical to him she grew up there. She had a life with friends and family and they are dead. Finding out Krypton died because of Rogol Zaar not some sort of natural disaster has opened that emotional wound for her and she’s compelled to find out the truth about what happened to Krypton. This Kara is a young adult rather than a teen but she does leave a message for Eliza Danvers that she’s ok but has to leave for a while, so it looks like they’re keeping that name for her adopted mother.

As for her suit. Until the last few panels she is in a blue top/red skirt/gold belt/red over the knee boots suit then before she takes off in her ship she changes into what she calls a solar collector suit because she can’t count on always being near a yellow sun when traveling in space. The solar collector suit looks like a blue tennis dress with a gold belt paired with red over the knee that have gold accents and the \S/ is “glowy”. Both suits have what looks like the same length red cape. The solar collector suit looks fine and from what I understand the character has worn all blue before. I wouldn’t want a suit like this for the show because I think the red skirt gives a nice pop of color on film that isn’t necessary on paper. Spoiler warning but here's more info on the solar collector suit from IGN

I don't think they technically "cancelled" the Supergirl comic; they put it on a hiatus of sorts while "The Man of Steel" was going on, as Brian Bendis wanted a single point to start his story, and now it's picking up with #21. Changing costumes in the comics now seems to fit the story, as it's leaving Earth and all the high school stuff behind in favor of Kara going into space with a friend.

One thing I loved in Kara's appearance in "The Man of Steel" was when she essentially went full-on furious at Rogol Zaar, and Superman's thought was just, "I love her."

I've heard Melissa say in the past that she's always said she didn't want the costume changed, that she thought it was perfect as it is. Personally, I'd like to see her pick up a dressy/ more-formal Kryptonian outfit in Argo City, just so she would have something else to wear to "Supergirl Day" celebrations and that sort of thing.
