Supergirl comic cancelled by DC

This is a true pity but, fret not, she'll be back in one guise or another. Also, other notable comic series are being cancelled as well. I guess it's DC simply hitting the reboot button yet again.

Its because the comics writer Brian Bendis is moving from Marvel to DC, and he's taking over the Superman comic

Guessing he wants a fresh start with the Superman mythos.

Since ALL of the Super-books are ending, I'm betting that Supergirl will get a new series with new numbering. Just the end of the Rebirth arc. Supergirl isn't the highest selling book, but it's doing well enough to stay afloat. I'm betting a new Supergirl book will be on shelves around when season 4 starts, if not sooner.

It's merely Steve Orlando's run on the character that's ending. Publisher did not put 'final issue' in the solicitations for #20. So this gives DC the option of a Supergirl solo comics series either with a new #1 and full relaunch, or after Bendis' Man of Steel mini-series wraps up a few months later with a new writer/artist team on #21. Seems more like the publisher is merely 'clearing the decks' so Bendis won't have to refer to spin-off titles during his revitalization of the Superman comics line.

The Forbes article says the Superman monthly will restart July 11 so hopefully we’ll get a Supergirl monthly restart at some point after that.

Although I did read Sterling Gates' Supergirl comic series during the 1st Season (which was very, very good btw), I have not been an avid comic book reader so, my opinion is strictly as an outsider in that sense. But, historically it seems as though Supergirl's relevance was always based on her association to Superman. That she was always in his shadow. And I know that the main draw for me to Supergirl was that the show was based on her, not her as a character of the Superman world. The fact that they have a Supergirl book set up in the same fashion, I think, is so beneficial to young girls and older girls, too . If I had been able to get my hands on a strictly Supergirl comic book as a child, it would have been huge for me because it was almost impossible to find that type of role model back then. Maybe I'm misreading this but, for the comic book people to emphasize here, that Supergirl will be a part of Superman books (even though huge) seems like a huge step backwards to me. So, hopefully, the interruption of her own series is short-term and they do continue with her own books.

So a changing of the guard so to speak?

I'll admit I'm a bit behind on my comic reading, but will it end with some kind of closure, or just leave us hanging like some of the other Supergirl series?
