I'll second Robert's comments. I believe there is extra padding and also her stunt double may be more physically honed, so it appears that during the action sequences that she has more muscle.

It also doesn't hurt for Odette to be half-Colombian and half-Cuban (but definitely a USA girl), to give off that simmering Latina vibe. Intense has a name and Odette can certainly bring it.

Those suits do have built in mussels. Also she’s tall. She’s listed as 5’9” I’m not 100% sure if that’s true but it’s not too far off. She’s looks like she’s slightly taller than Melissa, they were definitely eye to eye when they faced each other in Reign. When your that tall it’s easier to act physically imposing. I’d say besides the fact that she’s a fabulous actress the fact that she’s physically a match for Melissa was why she was cast.

If you've ever seen Odette outside of Supergirl, she's actually rather skinny and lanky.

Melissa’s not trying to be physically imposing as Kara or Supergirl. Look at how she carried herself as Overgirl or red K infected Kara, she can be pretty scary when she wants to be. Melissa’s also described herself as a passive person who had never thrown a punch before this show.

Odette as Sam isn’t physically imposing but as Reign she making herself as large as possible with her body, especially the eyes, and voice.

Agree with all your points, but what make it really intimidating are the characters themselves. I mean, what make you fear overgirl or reign, for example, is the fact that they can freeze you to death, boil you alive, or rip you apart with their bare hands. Melissa and odette as themselves, however, aren't really intimidating.

People often complain about how other characters are so clueless when it comes to being able to recognize that Sam is Reign and that Kara is Supergirl but, I can see how people who are not clued into who they are could be fooled. Both actresses do a great job of transforming their disposition and their physical, emotional being into their alias that they really do seem like different people.

I think the same thing about Kara as Supergirl....even Mehcad had mentioned it before. He says when she is in her suit there is an instant intimidation factor.
