So, like last season, I thought it might be nice to create a place to discuss the main villains of the season so far.

I have seen some members state that they think that AoL might not be the one running the show and that the Graves siblings are more of a threat.

My thinking at the moment is that AoL is the leader of the group. As someone who has a history of being in a position where he uses his voice to teach and influence others, he has the ability to bring others into the fold. He is also a bit of a menace as it was he who killed the alien bar keeper, up close and personally and left the other alien to die from the fire. Furthermore, AoL was able to convince Mercy to not kill Agent Jensen because he could be of use to them in a different way. So, I kind of look at AoL as the leader with charisma, power and intelligence who has the capabilities of putting together a pretty big threat. While the Graves siblings are more of the grunts, who have some individual skills but, aren't able to do much on their own.

However, I also think that, even though AoL might be the leader, he may actually be more likely to be convinced that the path that he is on is the wrong one. Perhaps that is through his family and also through appealing to his conscious, as we were shown in flashbacks that he used to have a different approach in addressing issues. On the other hand, I don't think that the Graves siblings can be convinced to reform and so, may be more of a long-term threat because they would be more likely to go off, half-cocked and do their own thing to eliminate aliens, even if AoL changes sides.

Thoughts?

Good theory, Sully. Your correct about Kara appearing weaker this season. The Harun-El may be the cause. Further, I think that Lena’s experimenting with it may backfire and create some serious consequences.

We've been talking quite a bit about whether the Harun-El split Kara and the Red Daughter received all of the negative, darker aspects of Kara, while Kara herself retained the purer, positive aspects. We have also been discussing how Kara has been shown to be weaker this season, easily put into perilous positions. So, I was thinking on both of these ideas and started to contemplate a theory. Didn't the Harun-El keep Reign and Sam connected to Sam's life force when they were split? If so, I wonder if the rock has not only split Kara into two but, the Red Daughter is also continuing to drain Kara of her powers?

Well the Graves siblings are out as long term threats. I totally wasn’t expecting both thier deaths. I thought maybe Otis would die at some point but not Mercy.
I know, right! I haven't been impressed with either of the Graves characters (too much of a cliche) but, I didn't think that they would actually kill them off so quickly. I really don't understand what their purpose in the show was other than provide an avenue for Lockwood to become Agent of Liberty.

Hopefully, their early demise will allow Lockwood to be able to really step-up, strengthen his gang and become a formidable opponent

Do you think that Manchester Black is going to be a friend or foe? How about Red Daughter Kara? Is that going to be part of the same plot arc or will they switch to a different one when adding her to the episodes?

I'm not really familiar with either of these characters or the storylines they are based on, so I'm just spit-balling here. But I believe Manchester Black will be an ally, especially when he finds out the fate of his fiancee. As far as Red Daughter, I think she will be a different story arc later in the season.
I have no background with the two either although, from some of what I read about AoL, he isn't portrayed as the same character from the comics. So, I'm not sure background information is very helpful in prediction :D . I'm hoping that the Red Daughter story is a different arc and that they switch to it at least by the episode after the mid-season finale.

I think you've made a pretty good assessment of the current relationship of the three. AoL is the titular leader. Mercy is the most treacherous. Otis is Otis. But I'm wondering if, long term, Lex or Lillian may have a role in this. Even though Mercy betrayed Lex, the fact that she was riding around in a limo makes me think that someone with lots of money may be bankrolling their activities.
Well, I think you're right that the money trail leading to either Lex or Lillian would make some sense - especially with Lex being announced as an upcoming character on the show. I would be very happy to see some type of tie-in with this seasons current anti-alien sentiment and previous season's villains in order to have some continuity. It would also expand the reach of the threat, making it more ominous and difficult to extinguish.
