I've never heard of her, but that doesn't mean much. :D

I just read this... I don't watch Y&R, so I am not familiar with the actress but I welcome a bid screen Supergirl. It would be awesome if she and Ezra have a fraction of the chemistry Melissa and Grant have when they share the screen.

We thought we were getting a LatinX Wonder Girl on CW, but instead we are getting LatinX Supergirl in the DCEU. That is the great thing about the multiverse, you can stray from the known origin story without overwriting it. Different Earths, different variations.

Well now this is interesting. Begs the question, should we cover Supergirl from the DCEU here? As for Superman and Lois, news on that coming soon.

A relative unknown casting which is a tradition for casting Supers on the big screen.Very curious on the DCEU take on Supergirl.I also wonder if this makes it more likely Henry Cavill will also appear in The Flash.

I love seeing her reaction to being cast on the Instagram post.

I wonder what Melissa thinks of this?

Anyhow, to kind of celebrate this news from out of nowhere...I guess I may as well play the theme song from Y&R as fans call the show...Nadia's Theme, which was top 40 hit (going to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100) in 1976 written and composed by Barry De Vorzon and the late Perry Botkin, Jr. I then find this on a YouTube page featuring Henry Mancini's arrangement, which is used as the on-air theme...

The melody, originally titled "Cotton's Dream," was composed, and lyrics were written for it, by De Vorzon and Botkin Jr. as incidental music for the 1971 theatrical film Bless the Beasts and Children. Two years later, Botkin Jr. composed a rearranged version of the music for The Young and the Restless; the show debuted on March 26, 1973. The melody was later renamed "Nadia's Theme" after ABC Wide World Of Sports lent the music for a montage of Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci's routines during the 1976 Summer Olympics
;

But, here's some irony...

Nadia never performed her floor exercises using this piece of music. Instead, she used a piano arrangement of a medley of the songs "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" and "Jump in the Line."

This is just a theory...but with the multiversal path this film seems to be on, I'm thinking Sasha might be playing an alternate universe Supergirl, as opposed to the mainstream cousin to Henry Cavill.

I only say this because telling the story of her intro, backstory, and relation to Kal seems like a lot to fit in this film.

My theory is that, in an alternate universe, she fell to Earth instead of Kal, went on a similar journey, and became her universe's primary "Super", who comes across Barry in whatever universe hopping shenanigans he's going on.

Very possible. The Flash film is going be dealing very heavy with the multiverse and the rumor is that they are using the multiverse stuff to soft reboot the DCEU.We know two different versions of Batman are in the film,Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck. There are rumors Grant might pop in for a appearance aa the Arrowverse Flash. So a alternate universe Supergirl would fit.

I'm psyched for this.

If I'm honest, I'm still a sucker for our traditional blond Supergirl. But that's a bias I can put aside. Besides, it sounds like the director and the others involved were blown away by this girl, and performance matters more than anything.

The fact that we are getting Supergirl at ALL in film is fantastic, regardless of whether she's the mainstream DCEU version or some alternate universe version. I'm eager to see the character continue.

I was actually worried that Supergirl, as a franchise, was dying. The comic was cancelled with no new series on the horizon. The show is ending. It was getting grim.

But this ensures we still have a Supergirl, in at least one form, through the release of this movie.

Congratulations go to Sasha Calle for getting the nod. ;)

It should be an interesting take on the character. I hope it does well and that the public is receptive to this new iteration. I look forward to seeing how it will pan out on the big screen and if she delivers a memorable performance.

Melissa's still our SG (and for us older folks, Helen Slater is still the first) for the moment, but the torch is being passed nicely. Let's wish the project success.

Well, I guess that's the blessing! It also shows Melissa is comfortable in having played Supergirl on TV these many years.

I am curious if her alter ego will be "Linda" and will she be brunette as Supergirl. I am looking forward to the big screen Flash. There was speculation Supergirl would cameo at the end Snyder cut of Justice League, as he originally planned.

Sasha Calle responds to Melissa's welcome. It seems she is big fan of the show.:)

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/supergirl/supergirl-star-melissa-benoist-welcomes-sasha-calle-to-the-dc-universe-the-flash-movie-star-responds-a182629

Calle later responded to that message saying, "Melissa! This means so much. My little brother and I have watched every episode. This was such a sweet moment for us. Thank you."

This is a super cool moment, and one which serves as an awesome passing of the torch. While it would be a shame for Benoist not to continue playing Kara Danvers in some form, it feels like the character is in good hands with Calle, especially as she was chosen from over 400 different actresses.

She looks like supergirl with the love and compassion in her eyes. She's going to be a hit. It's my understanding that she also speaks Canadian which is a very difficult language to understand.;)

I really like Ezra Miller's take on the Flash. I found him the highlight of the otherwise disappointing Justice League DCEU release... hoping the Snyder cut improves it. My hope is Calle with have as much chemistry with Ezra as Melissa had with Grant.

This is how it would look. It's okay. But I'm hoping they are going for diversity

Great candid shot of Sasha Calle here. Yes, I can certainly picture her as Kara Danvers, heading to Noonan's to pick up some donuts for the folks back at CatCo!
