Do you think that Supergirl will/can/should do Powergirl?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11gDE6_IRkg

I think there are probably a lot of fans who want to see Powergirl, but I hope they don't do her to soon. For me the thing about Powergirl has always been that she looks very noticable different from Supergirl, but she's supposed to be the same person, just older.

This works better in the comics because there Kara is often still a teenager. But on Supergirl Kara is more grown up and I feel it would be pretty hard to transform Melissa as radically that she could still play Powergirl.

I do think that the character dynamic between Supergirl and Powergirl can be pretty fun and it would be fun to see at least for a couple of episodes (though I think Powergirl works best in teambooks).

I think for Supergirl I would actually prefer it if they had Powergirl played by a different actress (and give her a different backstory to match that), but keep the costume and the overall personality.

I can't help but think that that would still be really distracting.

IMO in the comics it works better because there usually Supergirl is a lot youger than Powergirl. Like Supergirl is a teenager and Powergirl is more like 30.

Obviously that wouldn't work as well if Melissa was playing both, it might come off just like "an excuse for Kara to act more provocative" (kind of like with Red K) rather than it really being a big difference and genuinely feeling like two different characters.

Have they really said that? I thought only the Flash/Arrow etc world has no Superman and Supergirl, but maybe there are other universes.

I guess I just like the personality of Powergirl, it would be fun to have her, but maybe with a different backstory, so it also makes more sense if they get a different actress to play her.

But maybe not in this season.

Is Powergirl not a weird hypersexualised version of Kara?

Yes. But I think she's supposed to have a pretty fun personality too, so presumably her fanbase isn't just for that one thing.

But I wouldn't really be keen on Melissa playing Powergirl, so if they brought her on, I'd rather have a different actress.

I dont think they will do powergirl. They have already debunked any notion of alternate versions of the characters on other earths. So there wont be another version of supergirl in this multiverse.

If executive producers Jessica Quiller and Robert Rovener finally introduce #PowerGirl during the 3rd mid season depending on where the story goes I think the role should go to another Glee alum #HeatherMorris. I think she has the physical prowess and look to be a stellar protagonist and become a recurring character perhaps during a point in the season that she would go on adventure to save Kara's life. With Darren Criss appearing last season on The Flash I think seeing Miss Morris and Miss Benoist together again would be so much fun

No please no. Let's not have Powergirl. In "worlds finest" Barry said that Earth-38 had Central City but no S.T.A.R labs and he couldn't find any Cisco Ramon or Caitlin Snow but they did have Mariah Carey. To me that means the universes are similar but not everyone has a doppelgänger. Andrew Kreisberg explained why they don't do alternate realities and I agree it opens "the floodgates of insanity".

While we're at it please no red lantern Supergirl and leave the batpeople to Gotham.

Well her fanbase likes more than her party girl/wisecracking behavior...a LOT more (if you know what I mean).:p

Now who out there would have that kind of personality...and...uh...other things? I think if they do, PG can be used to bring Kara/Supergirl out of her shell.

I could see them doing Power Girl at some point, on Yet Another Earth (not 1,2 or 38 which are the main ones they've played with... maybe Earth-3 which is kind of like the Earth-2 of the comics). Definitely don't have Melissa play her; if you're going to do Power Girl, go ahead and present her the way she is in the comics, bodice-window and all. I think there were some actresses in the "Who should play Supergirl" poll in the early days of this site who might fit the bill. I think it might make an interesting contrast for Kara to meet an alternate (good) version of herself as a one-off.
