Everything below you probably saw me say at one point or the other. Apologies for being tiresome. However, my opinions below are for you to critique or ignore as I largely hope you will tell me how you think next season can be better, or if this season is already perfect. I've been reading the main page and looks like many have a complaint about this season one way or the other, with some opposing opinions on what improved and what didn't. Now that we are nearing the end, might be a good time to discuss.

So this season has been pretty good, and featured some improvements but unfortunately some regressions compared to the last season. However this season did offer a glimpse of how utterly awesome this show could be if done right. So im my view, the following is how Supergirl can ascend to the top of DCTV next season

1. A more obvious central plot that ties into the setting of most episodes. What this season is about has been difficult to discern compared to the other DC shows, and that made Supergirl this season seem a bit like a collection of random issues of the week.

2. An actually powerful villain. Kara can smash Rhea any day. She can smash Cadmus anyday, hell, Alex was able to walk into Cadmus home base unscathed. When Barry had to face RF, Zoom or Savitar, or Oliver had to confront Merlyn, Darhk or Prometheus, they were outmatched, and must strive to improve themselves throughout the season to overcome the challenge. Really, Kara is just waiting for the villain to be found so she can bash them. Until then, Kara is basically chilling.

3. Less focus on supporting characters, or/and make their story relevant to Kara. James went AWOL and became his own wannabe superhero, and stealing Winn from Team SG in the process. Alex has her own little circle with Maggie. Now I get why only J'onn and Mon-El were in Duet, because frankly that is all that is left of the supporting characters that actually are mostly involved with Kara. Doesn't help that Alex and James get episodes dedicated to them.

Note on 3, heaps reckon Mon-El is a screentime stealer, but at least he has everything to do with Kara and this season's story.

4. Return to the root on compassion. Less emphasis on how powerful Kara is and how she likes to beat things up, and more on her altruistic and caring nature.

And why shouldn't the show explore other concepts of heroism with James? And Alex is an important and popular character, why shouldn't she have loves and arcs and storylines of her own. I think this concept that everything is **** unless it affects Kara or interacts with her is pretty stupid.

thank you! What I want to see is a well rounded show with a place for many different stories. Kara's is most important but why does that mean nobody else counts?

She's Supergirl. She will always be able to "end" most people (especially since the whole point is that she doesn't just "end" people willy nilly, she has morals after all), especially since a tv show doesn't have enough budget to bring let's say somebody like Darkseid on. They will probably always have to rely on villains who use manipulation or subterfuge or blackmailing too (there is a reason why Lex Luthor is a central Superman villain even though Superman can "end him";).

I still think that trying something like Rhea was a fair attempt. If all shows follow the exact same blueprint of the villain who postures their way through the season, that is cheap clichée too.

You do have a point there. Thought it was fitting that the end of the season was near, but then again repeating myself over and over does seem like a bad idea. Guess I'm just a bit overtly passionate. My apologies for that matter. The main post has been edited for clarification.

Although, don't get what you mean about negativity. The point isn't how this season is bad, rather how what comes after can be better. In other words, an analysis and an expression of hope. Negativity would be "this show sucks, it's doomed, it'll never improve etc." Negativity seems to be the poster word for hardcore fans to deflect any critical thinking. If I dislike this show why am I on this site? You know I even try to make everything sound as non-confrontational as possible. I always write in formal language, almost always try to use a passive tone, and preamble any criticism with some kind of praise.

I didn't have time to type a last sentence but actually the point if this post was to gather other opinions on ways this season can improve, and investigate how many agrees or disagrees with me, and why. That way, I can even rethink my own opinions after hearing some others. So, you clearly disagree. Show me why I'm wrong and I might see things your way. That's the purpose of this thread.

Oh and haha that post you referred to, totally different intent and on different topics. That one was a deliberate experiment on the tolerance of the community, and to encourage people to say things that isn't the consensus (good or bad, I never said say a bad thing), this is one is just a general discussion.

Fedguy you seem to be doing lots of threads that weather you mean it or not invite negative responses. I believe you covered this ground in another thread https://supergirl.tv/forum/share-an-unpopular-opinion-about-the-show. It's cool that we say things we don't like but I think they are said without having a specific thread soliciting them. All the things you said above you have said before. There are enough problems in the fandom without asking for negativity. The very things you dislike others like and vice versa. There is no way to please every fan because we are such a diverse group of people. What are you hoping to achieve with this thread?
