New Supersuit ?

My final thought:

The costume change and some of Melissa's comments about Kara have changed my approach to the forthcoming season, what's been striking me looking at the costume is I don't see Supergirl any longer I see Superwoman (especially as my mind was thinking back to a Superwoman comic book from a couple of years ago that had a similar costume to this one, see attached comic page). So instead of thinking of this season as Supergirl Season 5 I'm going to be looking at it as Superwoman Season 1 and my best hope is that like Supergirl Season 1 I get to enjoy the journey of Kara Zor-El filled with Superheroics, Action, Heart, Humour, Friendships/Family and her Reporting job.

Funny you should mention that, Kiwi.

My "ideal" ending for the show at some point, would have involved Kara at age thirtysome adopting a more mature image and maybe retiring the Supergirl moniker. The end of Kara's journey as Supergirl, the beginning of Superwoman kind of thing.

Speaking of Melissa's boots and hair. Then add to it the fact that DC recently released this episode of DC Superhero Girls:

I'm left wondering a few things:

1. Will we see Kara heat vision cutting her hair?

2. We've yet to see how will Kara style her hair (as Kara) to keep her secret identity.

3. Season one stock shots of Supergirl mostly in flight but also sometimes in action have been reused all the way to the end of season four. With new boots and hair style, those stock may no longer be useful. How will this affect each episodes budget?

Yeah, the reinforced boot is new. But the main costume appears the same. At least what little we can see. You can even spot the red lining on the outer cuff of the sleeve. The costume has likely not changed.

Don't get me wrong. With Melissa's hair drastically changed, this would be the season for a new suit. But I'm not seeing any significant changes, yet. It is odd that she's covered up like that in the middle of summer, though...we'll see if there is a reason!

Vancouver's highs barely get into the low 70s, couple that with a stiff breeze in downtown Vancouver, it can get cold very quickly.

I was just wondering if the flap is now less floppy. For sure they're still tall. The toes appear to be more reinforced, more squared, and the soles look a tad thicker with more treads. Oh, and soles are red. More comfy, I suspect.

I doubt it's a costume redesign, at most a couple of very very small tweaks for comfort. I don't think the new boots will even be mentioned storywise. They probably start out season with at least a couple of freshly made suits to put in rotation as they wear out. I've always liked the boots and appreciate that all of the women in the Arrrowverse fight in sensible footwear. LOL Supergirl wears sensible boots for fighting but as we found out last season Kara, Lena and Eve can all run in heels.

Maybe they also fixed the leather part by the knees. They seemed to be somewhat floppy in BTS shots.

The boots are clearly still over the knee and that makes sense from a practical standpoint of providing protection for Melissa and the stunt doubles. There's just not a great way to do a boot that doubles as a knee pad without some weirdness.

bah ha ha ha I took a screen shot of the same picture, wondering the same thing because of the new boots. Looks like they would be much more comfortable, especially when shooting action sequences. I always thought the old ones looked like might feet would hurt in them.

That looks like a robe you wear when getting your hair styled or serious makeup applied. Maybe she’s on her way to the makeup artist. It doesn’t look like she’s had her makeup done yet in this picture. She might have just had her hair done and didn’t bother taking off the robe to walk to makeup.

I am glad they didn't go this direction.....

Just not into the undies on the outie look.

And, I'm glad they kept the cape and didn't go the Smallville way....



And whoa thank goodness they didn't leave Captain Marvel in this.....

That may be part of the reason they started filming so early, needing time to get in new shots....who knows. I guess we will see when it airs how they took care of those things.

Concerning the suit.....

Glad they didn't:

1. Add gloves. Though Overgirl's looked cool, I like our Supergirl without. Keeps her suit a bit more "free" looking--a bit more lighthearted, might be a better way to describe what I'm thinking.

2. Add a rise in the back heel like Alex's suit. I realize that might be to give Chyler more height as Director, and that Melissa is already tall. But, I prefer a flatter boot anyway. I would think Chyler's angled boots are harder to fight in? That's just me.

Concerning the hair.....

Was just re-watching this season's last two episodes, and had the thought that with the shorter bangs and shorter hair, might be harder for her stunt double to hide her face amongst her hair like she does. Her "move" was especially noticeable during the Supergirl/Red Daughter fight. Personal preference would be hurry up and grow out the bangs. But, I'm sure we'll all get use to the hair and the suit rather quickly.

I think Martian Manhunter should wear shorts....
