I hope that it is not taboo placing a Marvel discussion thread onto a Supergirl site but, I have no comic vested interest in any type of DC vs. Marvel animosity and wanted to discuss some of the Marvel shows while sitting on Supergirl hiatus misery. I also didn't want to clog up Kiwi's discussion for Supergirl hiatus discussion. So, here it is.

I'm actually not one to watch a ton of superhero shows but, I started watching Agents of Shield last season after a recommendation and then proceeded to binge watch the previous seasons on Netflix. I think it's a tightly written show with some great characters (bonus for having more than one bad-ass female lead), interesting stories and pretty stunning special effects. This season has been quite the thinker and I wasn't sure if I liked the direction it was going until just a few episodes ago. Anyone else watching this show? If so, feel free to add your two cents.

I also, based on a couple of people's suggestion, just finished binge watching Jessica Jones on Netflix. I had actually planned on spreading this one out for a few weeks but, when you put Netflix and three days of snowfall together, restraint ends in an epic fail. It's only had one season so it's still a bit soon to tell but, I think that I like this one. It's a little darker than I generally like and the main character seemed a little too broody during Season 1 for my taste. I also thought that the writing jumped around a bit too much. But, overall, I liked the realism that is infused within it and the continuous storytelling from episode to episode. I did end up watching the crossover series, the Defenders, after finishing Jessica Jones before realizing that it was a crossover. I liked this series, too and I liked the Jones character much better in it. I'll probably end up watching the series of the other crossover characters, too. Anyone watching this one? If so, thoughts?

Both AoS and Jessica Jones are due to come back on in early March.

Simmons was hard to understand back in season 1, but I haven't had an issue with her speech recently. Either she got better in the later seasons, or maybe I just got used to the way she talks.
I've never had a problem understanding Simmons but, occasionally I have a hard time understanding Fitz just because of his accent.

I see that AoS has filmed its 100th episode. That's great for them. I wonder if this will end up being the last season as I heard that they are writing the season finale as though it might be.

Jessica Jones comes back on for Season 2 on Thursday. Looking forward to seeing it.

I plan to watch Jessica Jones.. After all what else will I do this hiatus? :)

Will tell you what I think of it after.

Not too sure about Agents of Shield. If it is there on Netflix, may be I will check it out too.

Personally i'm a big fan of Agents of Shield, and I agree that the show prominently features strong female characters! Throughout the seasons, what impresses me the most is that agents of shields manages to get through its plots, but the level of quality almost never dips.

I enjoyed the first 2 seasons of Agents of Steel, and then it went downhill from there....

I loved Agent Carter, and thought it was actually better writing than AoS, I would have much rather it stayed on TV.

Waiting patiently for Jessica Jones.

Did not finish the Defenders Netflix series, it was terrible.

The other Netflix shows are far too dark for me.

I've enjoyed The Gifted on Fox, but have missed quite a few episodes, so hopefully it will make its way to Netflix soon.

@SSAV - I hope you can find AoS. And let us know what you think of Jessica Jones.

@SuperMatt - I agree. I think the writing on AoS is excellent. Very solid. It has hiccups once in a while but, for the most part it has a vision for the season and flows very well through it. The characters all play a vital role and all of the subplots are connected in some way to the main plot of the season. They also have a good mix of action, drama and comedy. Coulson and May are great for that comedic aspect that is needed at times to balance out the darker parts.

@Kelly - Sorry you didn't like Agents. I thought it started off kind of slow but, got better as each season progressed. Season 4 was really good and 5 is turning out to be just as good.

Yes, many of the Netflix Marvel shows seem to be pretty dark. I liked Defenders okay but, I don't have any background on the Marvel characters so I was pretty much lost for the first few episodes. If you didn't like the darkness of the other shows, I will be interested to hear what you think about Jessica Jones. It's definitely darker than Supergirl and she's very broody :D .

I started watching the Gifted and got through until the last 3 or 4 episodes before I started to lose interest. I might pick it up again if it goes onto Netflix. Has it been renewed for another season?

I haven't watched Agent Carter - will have to put it on my list.

Yes the Gifted has been renewed for another season. Also I strongly advise anyone here to watch 'Legion' (the second x-men show) as well, its very good, even if its a bit different.

Agents of Shield season 4 was brilliant, particularly the second half, and particularly if you've got the emotional context from having watched the previous seasons. Whereas the earlier seasons got quite corny/cheesy/campy at times, season 4 actually had me fearing for the characters' well being on a many occasions, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I almost gave it up after season 3, but season 4 was definitely worth it. I'm still not sure about season 5, but it's been getting better. Seasons 1-4 are on Netflix.

I wasn't sure about season 5 until recent episodes. I spent the majority of the first few episodes trying to figure out what was actually going on :D. But, I also like shows that make me think and where I can't figure out the plot and what's going to happen right away. So, I was okay being in that state. But, I don't like it when the team is split up as much as they were so, I am glad to see them back together again. I'm really interested to see how they pull off changing the future.

Me too, it seems they will find themselves pulled toward that time loop and break the loop before it fully completes this time I guess.

I'm curious if this season ties into the upcoming Infinity War somehow, like maybe the battle with Thanos is what causes the destruction of the Earth or something?

I'm afraid I can't add anything about the Infinity War as I am a Marvel novice when it comes to films.

But, the time loop quandary in AoS does make me wonder about a possible similar situation for Supergirl. Perhaps the Legion coming back and getting stuck in the Earth and then helping out with the World Killers isn't a "new" occurrence. Maybe in the original timeline they showed up in the same scenario. And if it is true that the Legion came back to save Kara so that the WK's don't go on to destroy planets in the future, would their presence now really change anything because, like AoS, it's a predestined within a time loop? Just a thought :D.

I tried watching Agents of SHIELD but one of the characters reminds me too much of Caitlin and I can’t shake it xD.

Jessica Jones is dark af and turned me off. But I might retry one day.

I don't watch Arrow but, through process of elimination that's got to be Simmons that you're talking about :D .

Yep, Jessica Jones is pretty dark. I don't mind the dark but, I got kind of tired of her constant broodiness. I like characters that have a little bit of an edge to them but, she seemed to have a whole chunk of armor surrounding her for the entire season. I did like her better in the Defenders, just because they didn't allow her to dwell in her sorrows.

Well Jessica Jones is a heavy drinking, sex freak, non hero. Always has been, always will be. That will never change. She cracks me up.

Technically, Simmons has been around longer than Caitlin (from The Flash).

Not that it’s a bad thing in itself but it reminds me I’m already attached to characters from comparable shows
