Well mental illnesses have nothing to do with virus or bacterial, they are to do with thought and mood and psychology, I would think. Therefore any sentient being capable of thought would be vulnerable to a mental illness

It doesn't surprise me at all that Kryptonians are susceptible to human type mental illness even though their genetics are different. Kryptonian brains might not be wired exactly like humans but if they weren't quite similar comic book readers would've had a hard time relating to them. J'onn's Martian brain is obviously different from humans but he's got the same emotions. Someone who's more familiar with the comics can correct me but don't Kryptonians have human type mental problems in the comics too. It's a bit of irony that the aliens are more "human" than some humans.

Even before season three Kara exhibited abandonment and anger issues, which makes total sense given what's she's been through in her life. In "triggers" we found out Kara wasn't unconscious during her time in the Phantom zone, she told Winn how quite it was. I've mentioned this before but I think that's why Kara always seems to have the TV on in her apartment when she's alone even if she isn't watching it, silence triggers bad memories. To be honest it's surprising Kara is as mentally well as she is after all she's been through. I think having to send Mon-El away the way she did just brought Kara's issues to a head.

Yes, they do. And villains like Psi have taken advantage of that fact on more than one occasion.

I agree with this, Kara certainly displays the symptoms of depression and PTSD, although they haven’t said it outright.

I’m personally dealing with depression and anxiety and it helps to see someone so strong deal with the same things and to see them overcome it helps even more.

I agree with Brierrose’s theory about why Kara’s TV is always on and I like how little things across the series can be relevant even in new story lines.

And I find it ironic this is brought up given Melissa and Chris' #IDONTMIND campaign about mental illness and their own personal stories especially about Melissa dealing with depression and Chris' dad.

And I can add my own tale of dealing with Generalized Anxiety Disorder as well as Autism Spectrum Disorder. i get stressed very easily. If mom gets mad I might as well. And sometimes I get depressed. So to those of you out there with your mental health issues, we are all in this together, or at least should be.
