So just to clarify, what is "scripted average"?

scripted average is taking all the ratings of all the programs on 1 network and getting an average. scripted refers to all programs that arent reality, sports or some other awards programs (think Oscars).

Last season CBS's scripted average was 1.55 and supergirls average was 1.60. This year on the CW, the CW scripted average is .54 and supergirls average is .79 and second highest rated show on the network. The future of the show could not be safer.

Yes, I did see the article since Kiwi posted it in an earlier thread, but there are some points I agree with and others I'll leave as is.

I wouldn't worry about ratings since the move from CBS to the CW was actually a boon for the CW network and the show. The pressures of the show being on one of the big 4 (CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX) made keeping the show on that network (CBS) too much of a risky proposition. Although CBS has a much broader reach across the airwaves than the CW, the fact that the show was renewed for S3 early on the CW is a good indication that it is not in danger of being axed.

Another consideration is that while CBS may have the much larger TV reach, it did limit the creative direction the show could take and was a virtual slave to the overnight and Live +7 ratings game the big networks rise and fall by. With the show moving to the CW (jointly owned by WB and CBS, btw), the show could expand and take more risks, such as introducing the Alex and Maggie storyline, xenophobia and the immigration / refugee issue. The upside to this is that the show doesn't have to worry about attracting 7+ million viewers on a very tough Monday night schedule in order to justify its existence is a blessing. Since the show still attracts over 2+ million on the CW, it is considered a big hit for that network and this virtually ensures its multi-season longevity.

I'm not sure I'm following you here. I don't know what "scripted average" means. The article cited numbers for Supergirl last season of 7.68 million viewers per episode versus this season's 2.509 million viewers per episode. Those numbers would be worrisome, if I were a producer. How do SG's rating line up with the rest of the CW shows?

BTW, if you looked at the rest of that site, there's a short article w/ pictures of Melissa vacationing on the beach in Cancun with Chris Woods, interestingly enough.

Actually the ratings for supergirl are much better this season. You really cant compare ratings of 1 network to another especially with the CW as the CW is simply so much smaller than the other 4 broadcast networks. the CW isnt even part of basic cable in some areas.

Last season on CBS supergirl ended at 105% of the scripted average meaning it was basically an average performer for CBS. This season it is currently 165% of the scripted average on the CW meaning it is a hit for the CW.

that article has some neat ideas but the issue I have with it is this current season is about 2/3rds done. That would be like walking out of a movie with 45 minutes or so left and then blogging an article about all the ways the movie could have done and should do to improve upon for a sequel. I prefer to wait for the final act to see how it goes before making any sort of judgements.
